Just a quick note on here to remind our Agents we are doing a count-up of what tickets you have left or what you need-please PM us if we have missed you over the last week. Got a call yesterday about some people who have yet again got accommodation booked but not got tickets yet. LOOKING LIKE ALL TICKETS WILL BE SOLD OUT WELL BEFORE the event. Mansfield area was the same, but we were all very young-only 3 channels on the telly-which shut down at 10.30pm. most of us lived with mum and Dad Sat in your bedroom or go out /-no contest. A good friend once told me his mates went along to the Blackpool Mecca with him "Because the Soul birds were fitter" and if they didn't "pull" in the Highland room they'd go down stairs into the main ballroom and pull there ! Look around today (maybe at your own sons/ daughters) there are always nights on in town to get them out-only difference with us lot is that it was this strange music that got hold of us and as the popularity "waned" and people paired off and got married then something else took its place-(probably Glam Rock or Disco) so we went back undergound ! bet you are all glad you did it when you did, as they say YOUTH IS WASTED ON THE YOUNG Rob

I remember the conversation with your pal from Stockport at the Greatstone that night when he said he remembered me from the Pendulum and even got Barry Tasker to confirm that on the night ( he was in attendance) that I was a 'regular' at the Pendulum - just can't bloody remember going, but then again, there are lots of things I don't remember from all those years ago! ( it must have been the medication ) Alzheimer Julian ( NOT intended to upset anyone with friends/relatives with this awful condition!)

intresting thread geoff, now as I know 95% of those mentioned on here personally after having met them "in the flesh" over the last 30 odd years, mainly in deep dark coners of all-nighters, weekenders, and soul-nights talking utter bollocks about records and other stuff in general. All this leads to Soul-Source an absolute GEM of a site for all us annoraks who love the trivia and knowing stuff behind the "round bit of plastic" that has cetainly lead me astray since I was 14. I have met some wonderful people on the scene and several dozen on here who have helped me drop little bits and pieces into stuff "wot I have written" over the years. Also given advice and knowlegde freely and helped without hesitation. its hard to single anyone out of a community, but some are exceptional. My list (without predudice) includes most of the ones already mentioned. Oscar style pause:- But top of the shop would be MIKE, as we would be back in dark corners without him. (we're not worthy) Pete S always returns PMs in an instant. The Pendulum in Manchester changed the lives of me and mrs. I think it is one of the great unsung clubs, [ but I know they must exist up and down the country], but still they are the places that got us all into this glorious mess ! In Stretford there was Browns [ one in Levenshule too ? ] which played plenty of good stuff . This is what I was after when I started the thread, you NEVER hear anything about these clubs because NOTHING was written down for people to say "I was there when they first played Laura lee at the Pendulum". I love the history relating to this stuff- for me it was listening to The Torch and Wheel lads who made the journey from Mansfield and bought the sounds back to play. I only found out about the Pendulum when we used to pass the old entrance ( remember Dean Penfold !) I think there are some pic somewhere of a gang of us around 1976/77 taken outside the old entrance to the place. Keep the memories coming -another great post by ricticman. Rob

reading between the lines here, it sounds like most attendees were slightly worse for wear and probably can't remember if the Clubs had their "own" sounds, but didn't Chuck Woods originate in The Pendulum ?
