  1. Mike I think there are a few tape track listings up on my website (www.raresoul.co.uk) mainly Wigan, one from the Cats, two from Stafford...I think!
  2. How about it contains one of the worst vocal performances of all time, out of tune backing, dreadful lyrics and it's f*cking awful? Oh, but it's black, that makes it good then!
  3. Have you heard them together Chalky - I can't believe the difference
  4. Yeah I'll try and do some clips, trouble is, have to make it onto cd first and not sure if I've got any of those 'audio' blank cd's, if I have I'll do it though. It will be for sale, definitely, condition is visually about vg+ plays ex. Labels fine.
  5. First person I heard play Black Power was Keith Minshull. That was the first Wigan spin. Terrible Tom - surely not!!
  6. Everyone except me, you, Janine and Ady C
  7. I'm sure Chalky mentioned that there were two different matrix numbers for Ruby on Gold Token - well I just got one with the matrix x-4353 and to be honest it's blown my mind. Having heard this on 3 or 4 originals on Gold Token, off the inferior Take 6 release, off the bootleg and also the CD - couldn't believe my ears when I heard this one. Feminine Ingenuity has a completely different string arrangement and way heavier bass, and sounds like a different vocal. Deceived is a completely different vocal, and much better, sold backing - and again, with different strings. No books seem to price this any differently to the other version but it must be rarer - I didn't even know it existed. p.s. I went to pick up over 100 goodies today - Deadbeats, L Allen, an almost complete Thelma collection, Soulmasters, Debonairs, Carol Frederick, Daisy Burris, Seven Souls, blimey it's been a long time since I've seen records like this. Will start listing them early next week.
  8. It is that but it sounds like it's been taken off a stereo album, and the one track (with the backing vocals and more instruments) has been left off. Listen closely and you can hear distant backing vocals. Just call me Sherlock Holmes
  9. It's got a great intro though ...
  10. Karen this link will take you to the start of loads of versions of the sleeve, haven't had time to look though Some Girls Sleeves
  11. Not off the top of my head but I think I've actually got it somewhere, probably in a book. Will try and find it after tea!
  12. Although the first one to play Judith Durham was actually Richard S...
  13. Can't identify the tune but Minshull should have been banned there and then for playing it p.s. did he really play It's Only Love??
  14. They also had to withdraw the inner sleeve of that album because of some of the depictions of black women. Having said that...The Stones' version is better than the Valentinos anyway..
  15. So did I...and Womack was certainly happy at what the Stones did when he got his royalty cheque

The original UK issue is multicoloured - or is it - got me thinking now - but I'm sure it's on a 2 track with the multicoloured design and that was replaced by a 3 track with the black label, but I may be wrong.
  17. Firstly, I'm sure the observant of you will be thinking "hang on, I've seen these before" - well yes you have, not from me but from someone else. However, they are now re-graded and accurate and will be posted by myself. PETE SMITH PLANET RECORDS 28 JENKS ROAD WOMBOURNE WOLVERHAMPTON WV5 0BL 01902 893569 poete.smith@freeuk.com Hi Folks Couple of lists this week I think. A note about the conditions of records on this list: all of these items were given to me to be sold for someone and were already graded and priced. I've gone through them again and re-graded them and priced them accordingly. As you know, I am pretty strict about my grading and if it's VG I'll tell you it is! Now there are some visually mint records among the EX's but I only list anything as MINT if I know it's never been played, and I can't say that with these records so I've used EX as the top grade. PAUL ANKA - I CAN'T HELP LOVING YOU - CANDIAN RED RCA EX 75 Looks stunning LEE ANDREWS - CAN'T DO WITHOUT YOU - LOST NITE EX 15 ANTHONY & THE IMPERIALS - IT'S NOT THE SAME - VEEP EX 20 Superb beat ballad BOB & EARL BAND - MY LITTLE GIRL - UK JAYBOY EX- 5 SAM BOWIE - (THINK OF) THE TIMES WE HAD TOGETHER - WINGATE EX 15 Good Detroit beat ballad BOBBY BLAND - YUM YUM TREE - DUKE EX- 15 BALTIMORE & OHIO MARCHING BAND - CONDITION RED - JUBILEE VG 5 JERRY BUTLER - MOODY WOMAN - MERCURY EX- 10 DARRELL BANKS - OUR LOVE IS IN THE POCKET - REVILOT VG+ 15 Name on label RENALDO DOMINO - YOU DON'T LOVE ME NO MORE - SMASH EX 20 Great underrated oldie THE EMBRACEABLES - LET MY BABY GO - SIDRA DEMO EX- 75 THE EXCEPTIONALS - UNLUCKY GIRL - GRT DEMO EX 30 EARL GAINS - THE BEST OF LUCK TO YOU - HBR EX 20 GARLAND GREEN - ANGEL BABY - UNI EX- 30 Big indemander MICHAEL HENDERSON - TAKE ME I'M YOURS - BUDDAH EX 15 TONY HESTER - JUST CAN'T LEAVE YOU / WATCH YOURSELF - KARATE 75 Well I was going to put this as EX or EX- then noticed it has a small crack on the edge coming into the record...it plays through superbly but it is there HOLLAND & DOZIER - WHY CAN'T WE BE LOVERS - UK INVICTUS EX- 10 FRANK HOWARD - JUDY - EXCELLO EX 75 Absolutely superb LEON HAYWOOD - CONSIDER THE SOURCE - CAPITOL 35 I'd have classed this as visually VG- plays VG+, but again it has a tiny crack right on the edge coming in about 2 grooves - doesn't sound - but a real shame SAMMY JONES - SHE DIDN'T KNOW - JENESIS EX 10 DEON JACKSON - YOU SAID YOU LOVED ME / LOVE MAKES.. - CARLA EX 10 WALTER JACKSON - IT'S AN UPHILL CLIMB TO THE BOTTOM - OKEH EX 20 They just don't come any better than this ANNA KING - IN BETWEEN TEARS - MALIBU EX 15 Never heard of this Chuck Jackson cover before - or the label (from PA) STEVE KARMEN BIG BAND - BREAKAWAY - UNITED ARTISTS DEMO EX 50 OTIS LEAVILL - A REASON TO BE LONELY - BLUE ROCK VG 15 Looks scruffy but plays VG+, great oldie LAURA LEE - IF YOU WANT TO TRY TO LOVE AGAIN REMEMBER ME - HOT WAX EX 10 LITTLE ROBBIE - I'VE GOT TROUBLES OF MY OWN - RSVP DEMO EX 50 LUV CO. - THINGS ARE NOT THE SAME - SPRING DEMO EX 30 JACKIE LEE - OH MY DARLIN' - MIRWOOD VG 10 MAURICE & THE RADIANTS - BABY YOU'VE GOT IT - CHESS EX 15 THE MASQUERADERS - I GOT THE POWER - LA BEAT EX 150 Stormer MIDNIGHT - KEEP ON WALKING BY - ARIOLA EX 75 Stunning copy but no picture sleeve DOROTHY MORRISON - I CAN'T GO ON WITHOUT YOU - BROWN DOOR EX 75 Postage: £1.50 first record 10p each after Europe, same. I should have one at the end of the week. Incidentally, I once found an issue copy of this in a shop in Eastbourne, the bloke gave it me for nothing as it was VG. Sold it to Mick Smith makes you wonder how it made it's way to Eastbourne.
  19. I say no, I hate those tall bastards
  20. That's got to be completely incorrect! Never a member of The Supremes and it was Lorraine Chandler who had the unused 007 theme.
  21. No offence Matt but you couldn't really have picked easier artists to find facts out about; without looking anywhere I'd say most people on here could tell you a fact or two about any of them...Yvonne Baker was singer with The Sensations; Darrell Banks was shot dead by a policeman; Dean Parrish was white; Sandi Sheldon was the lead singer of the Vonettes who were meant to be called The Vanettes after Van McCoy...and so on...there has got to be rakes of stuff about these artists on the internet.
  22. I'm enjoying this series. It's teaching me a lot I didn't know before. "The Gospel Highway"...fantastic stuff
  23. I'm pretty sure Dana Valery had a couple of Italian language singles released in the UK on Decca in the 60's.
