  1. It's just a different take Dave
  2. I've never heard of it myself, just wondered how they manage to get 48 tracks on one disc and 49 on the other!! And what a bizarre selection too. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Northern-Soul-Girls-Rock/dp/B004PKZOI4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1306870639&sr=8-1 oh hang on, is it mp3 only maybe
  3. Kinnell, find me some reggae and I'll pay for your new clutch!
  4. Good point that.
  5. Why ruin a nice shirt with those dreadful patches?
  6. No but the point I'm making is that it would be like putting Stateside and Parlophone in the same topic, both owned by EMI but separate entities, Pye and Pye International were both owned distributed by Pye but have nothing to do with one another apart from the name.
  7. 23 posts and you're telling me what I should or shouldn't be doing, nice one. It was pretty obvious from listening that it was a work in progress demo.
  8. Thats exactly what the problem was Dave - he rang me to say so.
  9. I sold a record - Maurice Long on Cyclone WD - to someone, it was mint and played mint. The buyer rang me to say that it sticks right near the end so was going to send it back, I said ok, but I've got another copy, same condition, and he says ok then, we'll swap them over. He just rang to say that the new copy sticks in exactly the same place as the other one. Sio I played him the original copy I sent him, and it played straight through, no sticking at all. Can anyone offer an explanation as to why the same record sticks on his deck on two different copies?
  10. You need to separate Pye from Pye International, two totally different labels. Pye released product by UK artists, Pye International released product by non-UK artists licensed in.
  11. Been saying this for 20 years but "Lonely Girl" is surely the best 'cheapie' Northern record out there - utterly brilliant and if a record can SOUND like it's worth thousands of dollars, it's this.
  12. I never said it was the dj copy, I said it was a demo, i.e. a song demo.
  13. Cheers Mike, but is ref-o working, when I went just now I don't think it was? (It is working, my mistake)
  14. Cheating, that's Leslie Dawson not Les has anyone heard a Paul Anka version of this by the way?
  15. Now after the memory loss I had with the John Bowie unissued version (thought I was posting it up for the first time but I posted it 5 years ago!) can anyone remember me, or anyone else, posting up an unissued version of Lee Andrews - I've Had It? Because if not, I'll post it.
  16. Why do you think that? I know he used to call himself Auntie Thuds. Surely way too aggressive to be a woman?
  17. Sounds worth about 8 quid to my ears! Don't like it. It's like a spiritual, too sparse by a mile and the intro is horrible. It's still better than any crossover record though.
  18. Fantastic - never understood why people knock r&b, it's the roots of everything we profess to love!
  19. 1954? Don't know where John has been playing it or on what 'scene' but that must surely be the oldest record? We'll soon be back in the 40's. Not knocking it though, anything's better than modern soul.
  20. Just out of interest, That version on the YouTube clip isn't the original single, it's from an album called Twiggy & Her Boyfriends, released in the 70's to cash in on her role in The Boyfriend. There's no theramin on the original, it's in mono and it's miles better.
  21. This topic is rubbish, you're just all listing any white singers who've had a Northern biggie, a lot of these singers are excellent anyway like Helen Shapiro, Petula Clark, Charlie Rich etc, the question was THE STRANGEST ARTIST so it's going to be someone like Harold Wilson or Roger Moore, i.e. not a recognised singer, not a decent artist like Tom Jones.
  22. Maybe nobody goes bowling nowadays?
  23. No but I had a shit record off this guy, complained and got a very rude reply, then I saw he had literally hundreds of similar complaints, see below https://toolhaus.org/cgi-bin/negs?User=thuds&Dirn=Received+by&ref=home
  24. Doesn't bother me mate, I honestly thought that applied to legit released stuff that coluld be downloaded off itunes etc, didn't think it meant unissued stuff
  25. Simsy is right, I did have it 5 years ago and posted it up then, I apologise for not being able to remember sh*t any more!
