Northern Soul List June 7Th 2010
PETE SMITH 4 BLAKELEY HEATH DRIVE WOMBOURNE WOLVERHAMPTON WV5 0HW 01902 326306 Pete.smith@freeuk.com WELL HERE’S A FEW GOODIES TO GET STUCK IN TO! THE ATTRACTIONS – BURN UP SOME ROAD (BACK TO MY BABY) – DE TO EX 70 Good Detroit dancer – little bit of wear on raised part of label ANNETA ARCHIBALD – CLIP MY WINGS – SWIFT M- 175 SOLD An amazing bargain – this has gone for 400 in the past THE ARABIANS – PLEASE TAKE A CHANCE ON ME- LE MANS DEMO EX 130 SOLD Classic – again, little bit of label wear on raised part – vinyl is lovely PATTI AUSTIN – MUSIC TO MY HEART – ABC DEMO EX+ 50 SOLD Torch classic H.B. BARNUM – IT HURTS TOO MUCH TO CRY – RCA EX 75 SOLD Great 100 Club oldie – plus this one has a picture sleeve as well! LA VON BRIDGES – WITH A SMILE (ON MY FACE) – GLORECO VG++ 75 SOLD Rare early Detroit piece, some WOL on B side mentioning Fred Bridges, otherwise pretty nice and a tough one to find, 150 in ‘the book’ THE COOPERETTES – SHING A LING – BRUNSWICK ISSUE EX 125 A beauty – stock copy in fantastic condition TONY DANIELS – HOW LONELY – SPORT M- 40 Lesser known Detroit midtempo THE DYNAMICS – YES I LOVE YOU BABY – TOP TEN DEMO EX 175 SOLD Sadly this has a tiny crack on the edge – it’s been taped at the back and plays without a sound – on the deck nobody would ever know, trust me, to all intents and purposes it looks mint and plays as such. I think it’s a fair price for a record valued at 400 quid. THE FALCONS – HAS IT HAPPENED TO YOU YET – LUPINE DEMO VG++ 80 Rare on demo – small writing on label FOUR SONICS PLUS ONE – TELL ME YOU’RE MINE – SEPIA EX+ 40 Great male version of the Lorraine Chandler track THE FOUR SONICS – WHERE ARE YOU - TRIPLE B M 40 SOLD Another beauty from the Sonics FRANKIE & THE CLASSICALS – WHAT SHALL I DO – UK PHILIPS M 280 Incredible UK piece CINDY GIBSON & THE TIFFANIES – I’LL ALWAYS LOVE YOU – GENERAL M 40 Never get tired of this one – brilliant intro FREDDIE HOUSTON – SOFT WALKING – TOTO EX- 40 SOLD Still popular WILL HATCHER – THIS AND THAT – THELMA EX 80 SOLD One of the rarer Thelma’s in that it rarely turns up. Little bit of water damage on the label, nothing too bad THE HESITATIONS – YOU CAN’T BYPASS LOVE / YOU’LL NEVER KNOW – KAPP DEMO EX 50 Brilliant version of Willie Kendricks and the flip is great too, think it uses the backing from the Sam E Solo track EDWARD HAMILTON – I’M GONNA LOVE YOU – MARY JANE EX+ 100 SOLD The brilliant original take, on the red and white checked label LUTHER INGRAM – AIN’T THAT NICE – DECCA EX 125 SOLD Superb double sider – top Detroit dancer and a great beat ballad on the flip – Bob Bateman Detroit production on a rare Decca stock copy. Never had this before. INTERNATIONAL KANSAS CITY PLAYBOYS – EVERYBODY’S GOIN’ WILD / QUITTIN’ TIME – WHEELSVILLE VG/VG+ 50 SOLD Quittin Time has some background clicks and pops but fortunately the music drowns most of them out but still only VG. Everybody’s Goin Wild on the flip (using the same backing track) is way better. Two storming tracks. Small WOL both sides and a little tear on Quittin Time. SOLOMON KING – THIS BEAUTIFUL DAY – FRENCH COLUMBIA EX 75 SOLD Never seen one of these before, red label Columbia and with a pic sleeve CHRISTINE KITTRELL – CALL HIS NAME – KING DEMO M- 35 Good R&B dancer, rare on a white demo SUE LYNNE – DON’T PITY ME – UK RCA VG++ 125 Vinyl plays EX+ label has small wear BETTY LA VETTE – WHAT CONDITION MY CONDITION IS IN – KAREN EX- 60 SOLD I gave it an EX- because I think I heard two background clicks, me being over cautious again BARBARA McNAIR – YOU’RE GONNA LOVE MY BABY – MOTOWN EX- 70 SOLD Visually a few light marks but they don’t affect play – plays EX TOMMY NEAL – GOIN’ TO A HAPPENING – PALMER DEMO VG++ 150 Rarest version of this classic. Has a bit of crackle way in the background near the start but no scratches or clicks. PHRENETICS BAND – THE MICHIGAN MOVE / SOUL BROS INC – PYRAMID – GOLDEN EYE BOOTLEG M 25 Not sure why people are asking for this one again but one went for over 100 quid recently! JIMMY RADCLIFFE – THERE GOES THE FORGOTTEN MAN – MUSICOR M- 40 Superior beat ballad GWEN STACEY – AIN’T GONNA CRY NO MORE – RCA M- 60 Stunning midtempo dancer, big big production SHIRLEY J SCOTT – GOOSE PIMPLES – STEPHANYE EX 15 SOLD Nice cheapie EDWIN STARR – YOU’RE MY MELLOW / MY KIND OF WOMAN – RIC TIC VG++ 75 SOLD Minescule cue burn on the first second of both sides, visually VG++ both sides play fantastic, you could confidently DJ with these and they’d sound awesome. Small WOL on Woman side BUNNY SIGLER – GIRL DON’T MAKE ME WAIT – PARKWAY M 30 SOLD Philly classic – we only had Bo Donaldson & The Heywoods version at our youth club LOL R. DEAN TAYLOR – THERE’S A GHOST IN MY HOUSE – VIP DEMO EX 60 Rare rare white demo, still sounds incredible. (Not For Sale has been crossed out on the label) THE VAN DYKES – SAVE MY LOVE FOR A RAINY DAY – MALA ISSUE EX 150 SOLD What a belter! KIM WESTON – I’M STILL LOVING YOU – TAMLA VG+ 30 Plays fine with one or two clicks NANCY WILCOX – COMING ON STRONG – RCA DEMO M 45 Looks to me to be unplayed mint MARY WELLS – CAN’T YOU SEE YOU’RE LOSING ME – ATCO M- 25 SOLD Possibly her very best dancer POSTAGE 2.00 RECORDED. Artist And Title Names Spelt Backwards
Not soul but Symarip who did skinhead moonstomp were The Pyramids (almost) backwards
-
Edward Hamilton
Well the original is coloured checks and the bootleg is black and white - but beware of the very rare 2nd bootleg which is in colour - only two of these known to have turned up so far - matrxc is unstamped.

Headlines Looking For A Love Luau
When I bought one a few months ago the chap told me he had 3 copies, and only 3. Interesting to see who's selling them.
-
Hattie Littles
Thanksmate, appreciate that, be nice to hear it again
-
Hattie Littles
Positive - soon as I heard it (the official release) I thought what a shame they couldn't find that one I used to have cos it was miles better.
-
New Rocksteady Lp,cd
More recycling of the Bunny Lee stuff - I think there's only maybe two on there not already on cd. I do like the fact that they keep a lot of studio chat and false takles on a lot of BL stuff though.
-
Australia - Customs Charges
You can easily send something by a method which keeps it tracked, and still put a low value on it. Sellers who put the full value on - I won't deal with them. That record has already had tax paid on it. I also state that if it is sent to me untracked and with a low value, I'll accept responsibility if it goes missing.
-
Mad,mad,mad Tunes
Mad records? 8th avenue band - the whole thing Life - cats eyes remember Cats Eyes, it was absolutely massive in the Midlands in 76

Your Favorite ''voodoo R&b'' Tunes

A Few Cheap Oddball Uk 45S With Scans
Only that one I think, and it's superb
-
John Bowie
Dan - f*cking hell - welcome back!!!!
-
Deletion Drill Holes
Doesn't make any difference unless it's going through the artist/title as far as I'm concerned
-
Your Favorite ''voodoo R&b'' Tunes
I'm as confused as you - asks if we like it then won't tell us what it is, so how the f*ck do we know if we like it or not?
-
Gene Chandler
Nor mine but it had an enlarge button, which helped! Charly did loads of soul reissue 45's around this time, most were in picture sleeves I think.
-
Gene Chandler
1980 - says so on the label
-
Your Favorite ''voodoo R&b'' Tunes
What the f*ck is it? Screamin Jay Hawkins?

Catacombs Northern Soul Special - My Tribute To Max
I'll just bump this for those who have missed it. 40 downloads overnight, thats a record I think. Must be from my mailing list mail-out.
-
Australia - Customs Charges
I'd put a maximum of $20 on the box not $100, they will definitely get done for $100

Mayer Hawthorne
He was just saying that there were already 3 separate threads on the same topic. What's wrong with that? He wasn't rude about it.

Catacombs Northern Soul Special - My Tribute To Max
Planet Records Radio Catacombs Northern Soul Special - remembering Max Millward As you will now probably all now, our friend and mentor to many of us, Max Millward aka Blue Max, sadly passed away at the weekend. There are some glorious tributes to Max on the Soul Source site which tell you what sort of guy Max was; the fact that hundreds of people have paid tribute speaks volumes. Max was, of course, one of the original DJ's at the legendary Catacombs club in Temple Street, Wolverhampton (1971-74). The only thing I could think of to do as a tribute was to compile a podcast of some of the tunes that Max would have played at The Cats. If one or two are associated with other clubs, then so be it, but this is the best I could do, so please, get your dancing shoes on, roll back the carpets and please remember our mate Max when you hear some of these classic Northern Soul 45's. https://podcastmachine.com/podcasts/4425/episodes/23967 JIMMY CONWELL - CIGARETTE ASHES / DANNY MONDAY - BABY WITHOUT YOU / THE COASTERS - CRAZY BABY / THE VOLCANOS - THE LAWS OF LOVE / J.J. Records You've Not Heard Out
My sincere apolgies Sir, I thought you were talking about when she was with Decca 1964-65, didn't know she rejoined in the 70's.
