What keeps you going, if you know every record? To me, the magic was always hearing something new. Back in the day, the ONLY way to hear the music was to go out. What’s your motivation? Everything has a lifespan. I’ve found some new hobbies and moved on.

As far as I’m concerned it’s a dead horse that’s being flogged to death. Again and again and again! The facts: Apart from a few unreleased tunes, there are no new records. In desperation to find something new, other genres of music are being played as up front. The majority of us are in our sixties or over. It’s a dance scene, and we can’t dance anymore. The divvies have taken over since the movie Northern Soul came out. When I see videos of events it makes me cringe. It looks like a care home. I went to a soul do a few weeks ago to meet some friends that I hadn’t seen for ages. Decent room, ear splitting sound system, couldn’t talk to my friends. Not many in, and many of those that were in haven’t been on a dance floor for thirty years. I couldn’t wait to get out. The music is very special. But the scene is simply a social club for old people.

Well I’m not really a soul music fan. I’m more a northern soul fan. It’s about the song for me. Even the greatest soul voices have made some terrible recordings. To me, the song writers are the real heroes. Take the record in question, the Jades. It’s the actual song that does nothing for me. The vocals and the backing are excellent. But that’s just my personal opinion.

I must agree with that Jades 45. Bloody bad record that is. I wouldn’t give 5p never mind £5k.

I think there’s a definite drop in prices on certain items, but others are mind blowing! Very strange.

Any idea on current value?

Well that’s what I would do if I had any good acetates. But here’s another thing. What’s to say that the people that are transferring your one off acetate to vinyl, aren’t making a copy for themselves??? I know for a fact that this goes on.
