  1. Got it somewhere Ali, trouble is the ink on the inside pages has faded to unreadable, so no Tony Ellis problem page to scan, sorry
  2. Pete Wid told me over a beer last year that he made that story up!
  3. Christine Cooper on Parkway - found one in a junk shop in Newport around 1975 for 10p, got quite moist thinking I'd found Heartaches away until I turned it over, should have known better as Wilxy had those shops well covered!
  4. You mind-reader Bicknell, I was going to contribute that to this thread having recently had the very same discussion at Gloucester niter. Issue scan anyone?
  5. I think it's a classic case of "You had to be there" matey, believe me, I've heard far, far worse!
  6. Brilliant! - but I'll have you know sir that the guy what wrote it was a serious songwriter...honest... ...this from Wikipedia: Brute Force (born 1940) is the pseudonym of Stephen Friedland, an American singer and songwriter. He wrote and performed with The Tokens in the 1960s and wrote songs for Peggy March, Del Shannon, The Chiffons and The Cyrkle (to name but a few). He wrote and recorded the LP I, Brute Force - Confections of Love for Columbia Records in 1967. One song on the album, "No Olympian Height", was covered by The Other Voices (produced by Ellie Greenwich and Mike Rashkow) and released on Atlantic Records in 1968. He also recorded and released the album Extemporaneous on BT Puppy Records in 1970. In 2010, Bar None Records reissued and released Brute Force's first solo album "I, Brute Force - Confections of Love" with bonus tracks not contained on the original 1967 vinyl edition. Brute Force's infamous single "The King of Fuh" was also included among songs by James Taylor, Badfinger, Mary Hopkins and others on Apple Records "Best Of" Compilation Album released in October 2010.
  7. Bet you have really Pauline, old Tony Ellis spin at Yate!
  8. Didn't think it had been reissued, thought Kayden was just a different label issue?
  9. ...not to mention Snoopy Dean "Shake and bump"...

Neil "Nogger" Allen always contacts me in the mornings on Facebook while tuned to my show online - haven't heard from him all this week, can any of his mates confirm that the old bu**er's OK please?
  13. ...and the Fantastics 45 of "Baby make your own sweet music" actually says "Produced by The Velours"! (on the Mojo reissue at least...)
  14. Ah yes, Fred standing behind feeding you new product...memories...a year or so before that I met him for the first time when I covered at short notice for a DJ in a newer, smarter club than the one I usually worked (just around the corner) - Fred turned up and insisted I play this test pressing he had, first time out to a crowd I didn't know. "Who's it by" asks I, "A new outfit called Chic" says he - and the rest, as they say, is history...
  15. Of course I'd love to hear the story of how SS managed to get hold of the tapes - especially the instr. of the Magicians which he retitled as Love Symphony, stuck on the flip and gave himself composer credits for, as I don't believe that instr. has turned up on any of the master tapes that Ady C has subsequently obtained...
  16. The old memory may be faulty here, but I seem to recall Whitchurch All-Dayer, August Bank Holiday 1974, Strings a go-go pressings had just arrived, which would tie in with Ricks timings above, IIRC they shifted boxloads of the thing that day - and yep, still got mine!
  17. Agreed - already dipping into my copy on air, thanks guys
  18. So did we, usually around 7.30 to avoid the rush, can't remember actually ever being there for the last tune of the night, after all we knew very well what the final four tunes would be...
  19. Fair shout - mind you, I tended not to look UNDER the tables...
  20. I never saw Any fights... Any DS... Anybody smoking dodgy cigarettes... Mind you I probably had my head stuck inside record boxes ...which reminds me, never saw any of the DJ's (except Dave Evison and Brian Rae) in the record bar...
  21. Pity - prefer "I've been fooled before"...nice scan though...
  22. I thought they were different recordings Kev - as Flynny says, it did get a few spins at Yate, Mac played the import, I picked up the Uk and thought it wasn't as good, gave it a couple of spins, it's firmly at the back of the wardrobe as one of those "what was I on?' moments...
  23. Happy Christmas one and all, have a great time! Hippo.
  24. He he! Every time I'm out for a drink with Mike and Shena they talk about that - there's a Youtube clip of it somewhere I believe...
