  1. funny, in our neck of the backwoods it was supposedly Lillie Bryant "Agent for love" Hippo. PS Worst thing I've done this morning...click on that audio link...
  2. ...at first sight the only track off that set that Ian didn't spin at Yate is "Love Hustle" - can't remember it anyway Hippo.
  3. Gulp...rest assured that's more the exception than the rule! always works for me, anyhow! Hippo.
  4. Come down? at Yate? Bad luck or bad gear?
  5. Same with the Rouser Frankie Beverly - that has the Fairmount cat. number. Never been able to work that out! Hippo.
  6. The lower of those photos incidentally has a good collection of Worcester regulars, "Hot dog" on the far left, and he still looks like that when he's dancing - somebody put names to the others, they were all familiar faces at Yate as well. Hippo.
  7. C'est incorrect matey - "I can take care..." was booted on a white label "demo". Look out for obvious paper feel to the label, it also has "Best" scratched in the run-out, and the labels are reversed! And I wouldn't be surprised if boots exist of "Nothing can stop me", possibly done around the time of US release? Mine has no pressing plant stamp, and is the "straight line" print. Hippo.
  8. Haven't been able to post since I heard the news, but that doesn't change how sad I am and how sorry I feel for his family and closest mates, especially Nige B. That great niter in the sky just got a lot more fun though... Pete, I hope you'll let me claim my usual spot at the Sarries on Set 22 as a tribute! Hippo.

Well, we've been using it on our RSL's for a few years but we go full-time next month, so we're bolting on Powergold. Should be interesting!

Bored? How could you? Here's me taking a day off from trying to beat an Enco-Dad library into shape ready for a new scheduling system, too many late nights and RSI - how can you possibly get bored? Hippo.
  11. my thoughts are with nige shaw at this time too,,,get well soon mate
  12. Not on the flip Sean, as I remember it was the same as the legit release - but interestingly, as those of us crusty enough will remember, in those days US imports were pretty scarce, but the Invitations boot shows a number which refers to the Dynovoice US release. Hippo.
  13. Heard this on the way to Worcester last saturday - if i hadn't have been sitting down my knees would have gone weak...and that was before the vibes break kicked in! Superb...and in the collection now! Don't ask Hippo.
  14. New one on me, this...real frantic gum-chewing stuff, ennit?
  15. Talking of early boots, the first I bought were in '69 or maybe early 1970 - Invitations "What's wrong with me baby" on a red boot with no label name (to replace my sisters Stateside issue which I stupidly sold!) and Dean Parrish "Tell her" on orange Soul Town - no relation to the '73 era Soul Town boots, but has John M or anyone any info on these? one thing I know for a fact that is that I bought them off Gloucester legend Froggy Taylor! Hippo.
  16. Anyone ever worked out a listing of the Soussan-era Mirwood releases? Several odd numbering sequences and/or dodgy-looking things, starting I suppose with the old "Superdance", the vocal of which awas (correct me if I'm wrong" "Hully Gully" off Jackie Lee's "Duck" album, though not credited as such on the singles. Here's a starter... 17. ...........or even stupidity? Anyone collecting NS vinyl must surely know that it was extensively booted in this fomat - OK, he doesn't say whether it's a boot or original, but working on the theory that there's a sucker born every minute... Hippo.
  18. First one I owned was on Golden Triangle, had it on tape in '73 but it was Tony Warot who found it for me at St. Ives in '77 when I started collecting originals - about 18 months later "Mac" Gocher started playing the Sound of Soul version with b/v's - think I'm right in saying that the issue didn't have them but the demo's (Cameo-Parkway disributed) did?
  19. Does this one have the b/v's Pete?
  20. Russ, believe me, you wouldn't remember a thing anyway, never an event for teetotallers - even pre-6t's when Mick Smith etc. did the Birds Nest in West Hamstead back in '73. I was on a course in London at the time, went up there and got totally hammered on Special Brew, my workmates had to carry me into the hotel lift...great night!
  21. loving this thread - mind you I loved Steve G's story of Pico Boulevard in Manifesto some years back - the late Dave McC had some tall tales as well. Oh to be an Englishman abroad!
  22. agreed on that Steve - at one of my last Wigan visits (late summer '81) some kid of no more than 14 walked up to me and said "we think you're squad"...if only he knew... but yes, because of the lowering in age, it did seem that quite a few of the people who'd been on the scene for some years seemed to choose Yate or Cleethorpes - not that we necessarily acted much more grown up! Hippo.
  23. Oooh yes...must run home and dig this out! Likewise Ivor's sales list reminded me of Donnell Jones "Symphony" - great! I spent the late '80's and most of the '90's playing this kind of stuff to an...ahem..."urban" crowd - great fun! Here's another suggestion - Magnum Force "Want you so bad" Hippo.
  24. Take it you mean Terri Wells on Philly World (London in the UK) as Terri Walker is good Y2K stuff! yes, "I'll be around" was OK but not a patch on the Spinners; I always liked "Who's that stranger" off Wells' album meself! Hippo.
  25. Probably the remix which came out 1991-ish? Haven't got the details to hand, but I know I've got that on a white Capitol 12" promo. Still prefer the original though! Hippo.
