  1. Brill sound Joey, never gets played anywhere these days. Hope you're ok Regards Fred.
  2. Isn't Jeff King on here ? Regards Fred.
  3. This just highlights their lack of knowledge of a vinyl record and what happens to it if not stored in a sleeve.
  4. Yeh they were his minders Lol Regards Fred.
  5. Yes she did a cover of Barbara Acklin's Am I the same girl. Regards Fred.
  6. Sharlene Spiteri lead singer of Texas is well into Northern Soul as she was brought up with it in Scotland. She's also done a Soul show last Christmas on radio 2. Once we were at Brighouse Ritz, when all the younger end of the cast of Coronation Street came in along with minders they didn't dance but seemed to be enjoying themselves and chatting to everyone.Regards Fred.
  7. Make no mistake about it Bub will be up in heaven playing It keeps raining by Fats Domino it was his fav record.Bub never forgot the loss of his dear friend Mick Cook and everytime he Dj'd somewhere he would play Michael the Lover by the c.o.d's and dedicated it to Mick. When Bub was Djing somewhere he always made a point of wearing an antistatic top so he could clean his vinyl on his chest L.o.l. Regards Fred.
  8. There has been a thread on here all about Bub a few years ago. I'm not sure if it can be reinstated by the moderators or by Mike? as I'm sure it would make very interesting reading and an opportunity for some members who knew Bub to share some happy experiences with us all. Regards Fred.
  9. I couldn't say for sure. But what I will say is that there was only one Bub.I don't know why but years ago some people used to write their names on some but not all their records.I had Chuck Jackson:- Any Day Now,with my name on which I believe is in Derek Greenhoff's collection unless he's sold it on. Regards Fred Ward.
  10. My point is exactly what I've said, most of the Dj's then didn't have the same records for example Sandie Sheldon you"re gonna make me love you. Only a few Dj's had a copy. Also Leon haywood Baby Reconsider. Alexander Patton A Lil lovin' sometimes. At this time shed loads of soul sounds were breaking onto the scene and if a Dj got them he had an exclusive until someone managed to hold of a copy. All the Twisted Wheel Dj's had a collection which to a degree was unique to them and yes there were some records which they all had.I'm not sure what you mean by a "normal " record. Regards Fred.
  11. At the time, what we now refer to as regular wheel sounds, we're new sounds that were breaking and each Dj used to have records in their collection which no other Dj had so you went to hear the sounds that a particular Dj had. Regards Fred.
  12. With reference to the button down collar shirts, no way are they now as good as they used to be.The ones I saw in a local Ben shreman outlet shop were not Oxford cotton, wern't straight cut at the waist so you could wear in or out .The collar was lower and the buttons were in a different position, critical so when you undo the top button the collar will stand up and look dead smart. All the shirts i saw had long sleeves whereas we were always able to buy short sleeved. Maybe it was because it was an outlet shop I don't know. I think a lot of you on SS will understand my comments as you will like me have been on the scene for a while and will be able to differentiate between what was and what is now. As for the record as said earlier a brilliant sound The Crow:-Your autumn of tomorrow on our very own Dave Godins Right on Label Regards Fred.
  13. Not all of us i'm 65 still with a good head of hair and not overweight. Lol Regards Fred.
  14. Brilliant record Kegsy.Hope you're ok regards Fred.
  15. I used to live in Huddersfield and there was a large contingent of "Soulies " who used to get across to the wheel every weekend. There were a few clubs in Huddersfield where they used to frequent. The main one at the time was The Hi Fi Club situated on Trinity Street which was the main road to Halifax coming out of Huddersfield. Whilst I never went to the wheel I knocked about with those people and grew up with them.We would always look up to them and were an inspiration in the dress styles, haircuts and their way of life. The Twisted Wheel from whitworth street music is what I grew up with and close to my heart.here are a few sounds that don't get played anymore for one reason or another:- Edwin Starr Backstreets both vocal and instrumental. Clifford Curry:- I can't get a hold of myself. Jerryo:- Karate Boogaloo. Alvin Cash & the Crawlers:- Twine Time.Gene Chandler & Barbara Acklin From the teacher to the preacher. The list goes on. But yes I think a lot of wheel sounds can get played a lot but there are many others that can be played that would be a breath of fresh air. All the best Fred.
  16. HI Joey, I've got the Hollidays on Golden World.
  17. Trampoline, great instrumental and doesn't get played anywhere. I don't think there are many Dj's on the scene that actually went there, so probably don't know the record or are old enough. That said in no way am I having a dig at all my fellow Dj's out there. One of my all time fav instrumentals fron the wheel is makin' up time by the holidays.
  18. Apologies, if I'd have read the beginning of this thread properly I would not have posted James Barnett as its mentioned at the beginning. I'd just like to say again an absolutely brilliant recording. All the best Fred.
  19. Top copy Deffo Original. Bottom one a boot. Regards Fred.
  20. The Torch Classic:- James barnett- Keep on Talking. One of my all time fav's , and yes we did a lot if talking at the Torch. Regards Fred.
  21. Cheers Joey.Regards Fred
  22. One door closes always another door opens.Onwards and upwards. All the best for the future. Fred Ward, resident dj at the Leeds Central Soul Club.
  23. Yes the Central closed shortly after that and reopened again late 70's healined by swish, along with Steve Luigi and myself. Steve now runs the Central Alldayers which are very successful. To date we've had on Keith Minshull Dave evison. John Vincent. Kev Roberts. I was one if those who never took a camera with me too cumbersome, a shame really as a few did and on the photo galleries on here are nice too see.Regards Fred
  24. Did you ever go to the Leeds Central Soul club? I was one of the resident dj's there from 1978 till 1980 and it reopened in 2011 again as a Sunday all dayer every two months and I'm one of the resident Dj's. Its brilliant with all the "soulies " getting back together. Regards Fred.
