  1. I dont want interesting I want answers so I can put a collective thought together. many thanks to those who have replied so far. Please more! ATB Steve
  2. Thanks Benji - Thats a good start. Please guys come on and help and not make sarcastic comments!
  3. Hi Guys I have offered another site the definition of OVO (Original Vynil Only) I was going to give my definition and then ask for constructive comments or elightened offers of change to the description. Now Ive changed my mind and I am asking for others definition and I will then collate and mold the best of comments and resubmit for approval. So Go Ahead and please no sarky comments as this is a genuine request to formulate a defintion for another site who have had a lot of requests as to what OVO means. Thanks in Anticipation Mike I am absolutely not sure whether this should be here or look at your box. Would appreciate a move if the moderators think it is appropriate. ATB Steve
  4. I was at my Nieces 21st Birthday party on Saturday in Manchester and its really weird watching a DJ play with a laptop and the next tune comes on- Im not a technophobe but not seeing decks puts me out of my comfort zone- no matter what type of music is played.
  5. I quite like it- Its abit raw and I can understand why someone thinks the drums are programmed even if they are not. Boba says this is for hipsters- well a lot of records we prize have been either remade or re-released for the popular scene of the day- It would be funny at a gig by them- If the Dj played the Jesse James version just before they came on stage.
  6. Ive decided IM OVO (Originally very oridinary) but now Im Feckin Mad!
  7. she might be too young to have watched movies like that!
  8. "Witnesses" The other 6 dwarfs I presume!
  9. Sorry just wanted to bump my want- Can anyone help me at all - even if you dont have but might know someone who might - It would be appreciated
  10. Good Post My view is to have a price range ie £10-20 , 20-50 50-100 100-200 etc adn then use a similar engine to the one petes used for his question with a timescale - SS members vote and the average is taken as the price or we nominate a group of persons who vote to determine the price using the same theory. This info would then be put into a Soulsource online catalogue. Anyhow that my opinion.
  11. Cant see PF paying £600 for SF or Id better GTF outta here
  12. I am not sorry about disagreeing with you here Nev- Putting up ridiculous prices causes confusion and frustration ! It makes a mockery of the scene which is based on rare records otherwise whats the point. Some one puts up the Snake Issue for £250. If no-one questions it then it appears that thats the accepted price and others get into promoting a record that is neither rare nor in the league of excellence "Ground raw soul" for a ridiculous amount of money. This surely is Petes point or somewhere near it. Sam Fletcher is a very nice record but not in the same league as other rare soul records and I appreciate its subjective because as I have said before unless you have the validation process by whatever means - No-one knows The point here is their is a range on price for the SF record but the amount being quoted at £600 is taking the P**s IMO and makes the seller look a bit silly. Or Am I not allowed to discuss this because it infringes his ability to sell at that price? LOL Steve
  13. Well Pete- I suggested a system that could be put on here when querying price that might help this situation and stop those asking ridiculous amounts for records. No -one wanted to take me up on it I would even moderate the section. It was basically an average price deduction system voted on within a timescale that would fix a price on a particular record for say 1 year. This would also be interesting from a research perspective to see how records moved up and down in price. Basically you would use the same type of vote engine used on Football club websites with a timescale and require a minumum quorum of votes for validating a price. My gripe about the Ethics - I want my baby back- is a good example but the old chestnut will come out "Supply & demand" My Idea would not be supported by the users of that saying!
  14. sold mine a couple of years ago on here to Phil T I think Think the copy was a clean label one
  15. Missed out on the one on ebay tonight cos my bloody computer hung when bidding. Bionic Movement - by The Chronicle Church on Pashlo records
  16. Ernie Andrews posted a post in a topic in Record Wants
Great Record been after it for over a year now. Jackie Moores version aint bad neither
  17. As I said - Neither was the Ethics- I want my baby back - (£20 record and not rare) However it seems you can talk up the price on anything
  18. Buy it on Soultown - The new Younghearts Or The King of hearts on Zea all the same record
  19. Mark Murphy - Why dont you do right - Riverside I absolutely love this record but not sure if I would ever play it out. Apparantly you have to be careful buying the US copy as he did 2 versions - I have the White demo withLogo either side which is the right one and the same as the Uk issued copy. Just wanted to know peoples opinion on it and whether you would be game enough to play out.
  20. Did afew trades for the Del larks in the 75/76 Ithink came to about £40 in total but the records had cost me very little as I worked at global at the weekend- Sold my Collection in January 1980 at Wigan and got just over £60 for it - Funny I got nearly £50 for the Embers that was a rough copy- amazing how certain records have developed in price. I think the day I got the dellarks I turned down a copy of the Sapphires version of Gonna be abig thing for £1.50 and bought an emidisc instead of Rosy Jones "Have love will travel" Strange things you did when you were young and not very wise!
  21. Mark Ive seen DJs with top collections make an absolute mess of it because they didnt think very much about it and didnt react to the crowd or lack of it on the dance floor- Great tunes and rare but didnt hit it off in the selection together.- It also depends on what type of night as well especially across the board where you have to glide one genre into another- That does take thought and skill to keep the floor going without a mass exodus. Weve alll made that mistake- My Classic was follwoing someone who had played apredominantly Motown spot- My first record was Push & - Judson Moore- Push & pull and it cleared the floor- It took a few records to get the crowd back in and was hard work. Tell me - What goes with Christine Quaite before & after ATB Steve
  22. Any DJ is on top of their game if they keep the floor relatively active. Wheter they play 2K records £200 records or £20 records. Its how they work the crowd that answers the question and the preparation to fill up their box before they kick off- In other words practising at home to see how one record sounds next to another and changing things around to try an get a good set together. Being their at the beggining to see whether or not DJs before you play the same tune you planned and be able to substitute to keep it going. DJing is not just about having big ticket tunes and sticking them on a deck- Theres more to it and Im sure some of the League 2 Djs like me can perform just as well as some of the big boys.
  23. Making a carver off an original acetate is ano no as you are illegally copying a rights owned original recording. Same for carvers cut from Tapes - You have to own the rights or be licensed to do it legally otherwise its a boot no matter what format its in.
  24. Yeah the price will go up - Just like the bloody Ethics! What nonsense was that- Member on here says He will give me £25(He said thats what its worth) for it W/D in Mint minus condition - Some months later hes selling a copy so I thought I would ask back as it was becoming popular but he wants to charge me 4 times what he paid me for the one I sold to him only months before! Guess what we wont be doing anymore business! and he wont get "loving you" off me for £25
