The Surinamse "sounds" (Holland) don't care so much about rarity and is nothing like the "popcorn" Belgian sounds where their dancing pace dictate the record of the day. Also the Surinamese don't bother about a continuous danceable "pace" and they do favor the (sometimes cheesy "glossy, golden, poppy, raunchy or crooner's" VOCALS side of oldies that you do get in 'for you' by the Spellbinders IMHO... Never heard that side of the Astors though...

Likely some BMI "deal/agreement" allowance for release in Holland for the Surinamese "scene" is my guest going by the titles/genres...

If they'd ask me they could repress Paul Anka and any such as much as they want, I wouldn't even raise an eyebrow. But this ghetto street level passionate soulful little gem is too sacred IMH.

The typo don't look right and definitely not late 6T4s or early 7T's. They never showed up before and have come in the "spotlight" only the last years or so. Plus all are mint and on sale from some sellers here and there only. From the scans I've seen, they seem to have those "shiny rings" like all those look-a-like boot made for "private" purpose. Not implying it's a boot, could be a reissue but also could be from the same pressing plant...

Never saw these vinyl copies before and they don't look right. Does anybody knows more ? Some are selling them as original copies...

OK and thanks for clarifying. I believe you but I'd guess it's more a demo cut then (before a chosen artist tries it for size). Not a cut planned for issue. The copy I had was given to me 30 years ago. It was part of a "give away lot" from a mod collection to a young soul beginner when 'northern soul' was out on the Brussel mod front in the mid eighties...

It's true that Ed Robinson is great and an old, long favorite of mine also. While this "pop" version of Valerie is rather ridiculous on it's own. Still the original quest is legit IMO and even though the fast answers brought the said record to where it belongs; in the bootleg category, now all is said and heard about it I believe.

Even if I could also imagine being a "vault" find, I always thought it to be a "made for the northern" market kind of record. The singing is quite amateurish and the vocal composition more like humming along the music... where the Flirtations RULE ! Belgium pressing !? Why ? It doesn't look at all like a Belgium, Holland or even French pressing thing. Seems more to come from the same batch/pressing plant as the Lillie Bryant and such ugly bootlegs...
