  4. This certinally is a fabulous 45, which I can no longer listen to having heard Jabi and Larry banks unreleased version on Dave Godins DST Vol 4.. They make this brilliant track almost redundant, which is saying something dont you think...? Before you pay for the 45, you got to get the CD.. Mal.C.

  8. On the subject of Lp's from which there is a great track taken, has anybody ever seen or have the Ernest Baker Lp on Blue Soul?? which "Alone Again" was taken from?? As most of you will know the single mentions taken from the single, but I have never seen or heard of the LP. Wonder if there were any other great tracks on there?? Mal.C.
  9. I normally shy away from questions such as this.... but I've pondered the eternal question allot of late. What is the deal with the Soul Scene now, is it just rare soul records going for silly money? Obvoiusly the core regulars still turn up and that inner scene goes on, but I cant help feeling the whole thing is crying out for a new direction... Christ its 2005, where the hell did those 5 years go?? Intrested to see what the younger and older thought? Mal.C.
  10. never seen an issue of Herman, have you? Yes Issues are dark green with gold lettering, not unlike Alon issues... Mal.C.

  13. Hi, Can anybody give me more info on the Musette label out of San Diego / San Francisco? As far as I can see there are 2 addresses on various Discs and at least 3-4 numbering systems on a variety of coloured labels. I've compiled what I know below, can anybody add to this, and perhaps gives dates to the various numbers and locations of the label? Sonny Craver seems to be involved in allot of the tracks as either a singer or producer and I was told was also an Actor ... was Musette his Label? Sonny Craver - I'm no Fool / Musette MR-102 June Jackson - You're Welcome / Bottoms Up / Musette MR-112 Lennie Groves - Bye Bye Baby / A Million tears Ago / Musette 65-11 A Mickie Champion -What Good Am I / The Hurt Still Lingers On / Musette 76- 9151A Arlene Williams - Duck all Over Town / Musette 6516 Garnett Sykes -Longer Than Forever / Go Go Girl / Musette 13 Ervin Rucker -She's Alright / Kids Together / Musette 14 There is also an Unreleased track listed on a Major Dealers site which does have a Cat Number but I cant see in the Scan. Errrrr, wasn't this done by Ruby and the Romantics on Kapp & Maxine Brown on Wand?? I recon Gale Garnett is a White singer and IMO not in the League of the others.. as for a male group version, never heard of one.. I did get this track By R & Romantics on Australian Release a month or so ago, which looks Damm good!!! Mal.C.

I did a label listing and review of this label for my one and only stab at a Soul Zine back in 1999, entitled "Soul Train" sold 400 odd mainly in the South of England. There are loads of great tracks on Port, plus allot the Funk guys play on our show here in Sydney most notibally "Drums for sale" by Jimmy Maye & the soul breeze, which I now love. There is also a re Issue of one of the first Impressions tracks feat the Brooks Brothers of Brute fame, I think... "Listen" put on Port, got an earlier release on Banderra. Worst track on Port with out a doubt The Soothers, easily one of the most overratted tracks that I still see go for way way too much. Other standouts, Curtis Blandon, Intregues Daisy Burris Robert Neal Carol fran Big Maybelle, Johnny Newbag F*** Great track Impressions (from the earlier 7000 series) Chris towns unit The jets Kath & the candlers Clovers Gees King Coleman Mal.C.
  19. QUOTE] What end? Its deffo a different Mix, that WHIIRRRRRR WRRIRRRR sounds different, more pronounced on the 45, perhaps thats the effect of STEREO!! Your right " What end" ? --- Pete S " I sold Pete Warner for £10 " Sheer Class!! I can imagine how he said that as well, as if 10 pound was not worthy of even mentioning in regard to a seventies track, you keep selling them 7ts tarcks cheap you grumpy old yam yam!! Lol Mal.C.
