  1. Hi Stebbo Thanks for the info, but do you mean 'Sweeter Than The Day Before' or 'Lets Get Together'? That SV001 seems a strange number, is it a 60's issue and do you know what Dells track is was? Apologies for all the questions. TTM
  2. I'm probably not going to get this for a knock down price because 'Sweeter Than the Day Before' is always an indemand oldie. Wonder if there were ever any one-sided Chess demo's?
  3. A tragic loss of one of the 60's top songwriters, phenominal output.
  4. Thanks for all your informative replies. At least now when I bidding on such items, I'll know that they probably never had centres so it shouldn't devalue them.
  5. Although this was a 'Motown' commissioned session, it was conducted in Los Angeles with the 'wrecking crew' so it's probably Hal Blaine on drums either double tracked or any other drummer.
  6. UK Blue Issue Stax on UK Ebay at the moment ending tonight!

James Jamerson on the Velvelettes 'A Bird In The Hand'. As much as i don't like Carol Kaye's claims she plays on many motown hits, she does play on DILY by Frank Wilson, and that comes from Frank himself!

I had a look at that boxset and it states 'Licensed from Mary Hill Music'? I'm not the wiser unless that's the publisher of Peanut Duck, but even then they wouldn't own the right in the recording?

Just been looking around for the instrumental (if anyone has it can they please place a copy in refosoul - thanks) and found this video on Youtube with the vocal backing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTi-t0YLKj4 However states that the music has been removed by Warner Music Group, do they now own the copyright in this track? Perhaps they have some connection with Virtue or the publishers (Virtuel) whomever that maybe. Surely Goldmine can't own the copyright? Composers are Hairston (Curtis or Forrest??)/?? Harris The mystery continues??
  12. Tony, what you state above is probably truth for many smaller specialist music companies that want to bring the best quality music to fans everywhere. This is why any Ace release be it on Bigbeat, Kent, and associated labels are excellent and so interesting. I often buy products that I wouldn't initially look at by reading the reviews on the Ace website and listening to the sound samples provided. That's why I'd never buy any Goldmine or Marginal type cd's because they are not good value for money, you get tracks mastered from vinyl and no info at all in the cd booklets, and most importantly no money from these releases goes to the creators, more likely straight into the pockets of the people whom manufacture these cd's!. Rant over!
  13. Chubby Checker (Cameo & Parkway) Soul sides, there is some good overlooked stuff like Karate Monkey and The Weekend's Here as well as the obvious stuff. Cameo - Parkway Northern comp I know this catalogue has major licensing difficulties problems due to the Allen Klien/Abkco connection, but there are some early 60's CC comp's, so other stuff maybe possible.
  14. Tony who's the footballer in your avatar?
  15. Tried to get hold of a cue sheet, but doesn't seem avaliable. There is a song called 'It could have been me' written by Howard Greenfield/Barry Mann (Brill building writers) that could be it? Best way it to get the dvd.
  16. Lulu's version shades it on the UK states, Merry Clayton's definately the best, great beat ballad. Tends to be collected by 'girl group' collectors for the other side (Usher Boy).
  17. Is 'Let Me Give You My Lovin' the original 45 take or the alternative that was released on a Kent Vinyl lp many moons ago? Ady, Tony??
  18. Elvis's first visit is well documented in Rob Bowman's book on Stax. If memory serves he also visited in the late 60's/early 70's as the Stax studio staff were told to not be there, except for Steve Cropper and a few others. Seeing that Steve left stax around 1970, it must have been before that.
  19. Bassline is not James Jamerson as the track was recorded in LA, and he didn't go out to LA until the early 70's.

Apart from all Mike's northern tracks, we shouldn't forget his contributions to the many early Motown tracks he played on. How appropriate that funeral takes place next to Motown's original studio's where the spirit of the Funk Brothers is well and truely alive in Studio 'A'. RIP Mike Terry.
