  4. Great stuff Roburt, very interesting, thanx for all the info. Regarding Marie's "You Lie So Well" 45, For me it is coupled with one of her finest, the sublime "A Little Too Lonely" steve https://youtu.be/-N7ly2lsXm8
  5. A current double sider fav at the mo, with Bobby Womack at the helm is, "If You Can't Give Her Up (Give Her Love)" coupled with "Cancel My Subscription" [believe this side was withdrawn on later issues of this Reprise 45??] If You Can't Give Her Love (Give Her Up) https://youtu.be/czrlaOaGw4Q Cancel My Subscription https://youtu.be/D8_CY7zowd0 steve
  6. A TRUE legendary bass player. at 70 it seems young these days but to pass away in his sleep after performing at a gig would seem the kindest way to go for me RIP another who has left an indelible note on the music in my life... thankyou Mr Dunn .... here's a clip that a French company filmed down in Memphis, at 4mins 45 secs. there is a back of the neck hair lifting moment for me....... memories of youth! steve https://youtu.be/amo2PQKHmq4
  7. What a fantastic read! well done Rob! superb info! steve
  8. Tony Hester does it again with the guys Jocko! Superb! (and yet again there's a certain Johnny Allen in there with the arrangement! ) steve
  9. now then Dave (nearly said Howwww Much" there ) Only got that Dynamics issue, so don't know what it sez when they corrected the typo on the group? btw dave what happened to Arkwight? you'll do owt to show off ya new T shirt collection! steve
  10. Talkin bout Dramatics "Bingo" Dave, I remember many moons ago when Arthur Robinson put me onto the flip in the early hours one morning at "The Bothy" the Oh so typically Ric-Tic'ish "Somewhere" what a cracking track! Wonder what Ed Wingate was up to on their first release calling the Dynamics? steve https://youtu.be/ChGHMaQQklY
  11. Ha ha! far from an "exclusive" Bob, tis well known mate, but glad it's a new track for you (tis what this site is all about for me, sharing and discovering new tunes) And amidst the quality stuff you play on ya show, would fit well I'm sure. steve
  12. for me, much as I love "Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get" (and have done since I first heard it on the radio) the flip, "Thankful For Your Love" has to be one of the finest moments The Dramatics had, amidst so many! Wee Gee never sounded better to me. Tony Hester yet again with the credits, and Johnny Allen's arrangement.... Sublime SOUL! (as an aside, Tony Hester should have been a giant in the music industry imho) steve https://youtu.be/sfBsgx4gSEc
  13. Well done Dave, your site is an invaluable reference, and is a credit to you steve
  14. Agree Kev, and "These Are The Things" is the record that started playing in my mind when I heard he'd died R.I.P. Howard Tate (ps. Kev! glad ya got everthing sorted with the house mate ) steve https://youtu.be/ckzJ8INPlCM
  15. Sad news indeed! His involvement in classics like, Erma Franklin's "Piece Of My Heart", Loraine Ellison's "Stay With Me", Garnet Mimms "Looking For You" and so many more, mark Jerry Ragovoy out as one of the greats in my book But for me, Jerry's finest "pure" Soul moment has to be Carl Hall's "You Don't Know Nothing About Love" an awesome slice of soul music! (which he also cut on Loraine Ellison) "Jerry Ragovoy".... one of those names ya keep coming across on great records! RIP steve
  16. You are right Tony, though Wanda was the voice of the Marvelettes as we come to know them (never better in my opinion then on their far superior version of "I Want A Guy" which for me will always mark out the girls in front of the supremes) Gladys WAS The Marvelettes. It is sad to see her passing away. The Marvelettes will always be for me, Motown's PREMIER girl group. First record I bought by the girls was Holland Dozier Holland's "Locking Up My Heart" not my fav now, but still love the trade off lead vocals between Gladys and Wanda so here is both of them! marvelettes - locking up my heart - tamla much respect to that little girl from Inkster, a major stamp on my birth to the music I love. steve
  17. Growing up as a youth and getting into soul music, I didn't know that I was already falling in love with this man's music.Only later after collecting records and realising how many the name Richard Popcorn Wylie appeared on. either writing or production credits, did I come to realise what a phenomenal talent this man was! Truly one of the greatest writing talents along with Tony Hester the Detroit soul scene ever produced. Much respect and gratitude to the man, and sincere condolences to Popcorn's family. For me, perhaps one of the best tracks from the Wylie Hester partnership has to be "(I'll Be Your Champion) I'll Be Your Winner" Take a bow in Heaven Mr Wylie, when it comes to class soul, you are a Champion, and most defiantly a Winner! steve
