Well I wouldn't really class them as Northern soul, but tunes like "Dangling on a string", "Everything's Tuesday", and "Give me just a little more time" would certainly be classed as classics that helped get a generation of kids into soul music. That type of sound was steeped in mystique and I am sure influenced many of our musical tastes.
  2. More to the point Simon, are you on the bill at Sleaford in September? Here's another one Little Anthony & The Imperials "Gona fix you good" and "Better use your head" - they're fast, but the vocals sound awful - never could get to grips with them.....give me a "Seven day foollover" anyday.
  3. Good to see Barbnara McNair being suggested for the dirge that it really is.......never quite got the lyrics either An over-rated piece of Tamla Toytown if ever there was! Love Stormy Weather? Well Mr Hampsey wash your mouth out Sir. Thought this would have been right 'up yer street' especially as it was broken by a young Sir Rodney of Dearglove as I recall. Party Time Man - awful awful awful. Get it off - "Hang the DJ" etc. Judy Street "What" - I know it's pop, but never got why it was so popular - the biggest seller on Grapevine etc. "Band of Gold" Freda Payne - crushingly tiresome - quite happy never to hear this record ever again.
  4. The UK instrumental version of Billy Harner "What about the music". 67 seconds I think. But I have a James Brown promo announcement on a Smash label single 7 seconds
  5. Etta James "Seven day snore bore" Billy Woods - a "B side piece of nonesense" filler if ever there was one - loads of "la la da da' s" just to fill up the song. 4 Tracks - "Like my love for you" classic northern for some, but just awfully dull.

  7. Yes local release, exactly the same only it's styrene
  8. Sorry I know the record, and have had it for yonks but would never ever have put Ghetto Kitty down as being The Toys. Never. Fascinating.
  9. Didn't know that....

Choooooooon. Always thought it was yet another version of the Spinners but it isn't. Great midtempo, and the best of their MCA releases.
  11. Glen Campbell also played guitar on "Tainted love" (true). He's quite a "name" in Northern soul circles.
  12. The offending post says: "we are supposed to be saving up for our wedding............... but may have to attend this one..............." Think that tells you all you need to know about your 'refund' Jo !
  13. I have faith in you and running back and forth
  14. ...As do Arthur Fenn, Mick H and myself.

Great tune Bearsy - might be dropping it at Monumental on Saturday. It's Tommy Tate. Old Butch cover up.
  16. Wow just like the one I got from Russ's booth at the Casino in the 70s for £1.25.....
  17. Yes they do but the way round it is to have a yahoo.co.uk email address, then email it to that address (there is a prompt on the iplayer). You should be able to listen to it then.
  18. Ted's right - you couldn't give these away for £1.75. But it's now in demand.....not rare though.
  19. As I put in the other thread Big Dee Irwin.
  20. The two people concerned are members on here aren't they? The least they can do is come on here and explain what has happened and when people will get their money back without any B/S rather than this wall of silence which causes everyone to see the worst in them. As far as I am aware they are not a limited company and so "going into administration" or "losing all their money" or whatever isn't relevant and they are not protected in the same way as a company which went bust. They are individuals who owe people money, end of.
  21. Has it left the country yet?
  22. The cows in the next field are hearing some great tunes Simon......
  23. Sorry if this is confused teacherman, will try and do better Just stating the obvious really. oldies are the bedrock of the scene - that's what the majority likes and it's like chalky says you have to mix in newer or lesser known stuff as and when you can. I'd always prefer to go to a venue where I don't hear 4 Tracks Like my love, Mel Britt, and Lou Pride etc. But I have these records in my collection in Somerset, they are great records, just tired of hearing them out.
  24. I only put the smilie on Rod because I know there are those on here that think Mr M's was the best thing to happen at Wigan since they invented mothballs, sorry mint balls. Me I'd have put a wedge in the back door, announced over the mike that you've got 2 minutes to get back in the main room and then set the bloody room on fire There's another smilie just in case anyone things I'd support arson.....but yes I am afraid I do think that's where it all started. I also like oldies, as Sean says bedrock etc. just not all the time.....Steve
  25. Another one for me Big Dee Irwin "you satisfy my needs" on Stateside - took me YEARS to get one.
