  1. All I am seeing is another King Tutt?
  2. Very sad news, how old was he?
  3. You'll be lucky to get a LaBeat copy for 1500.....Seriously the LaBeat recording ain't great either.
  4. The Katie Griffin is a big revival oldie down here in Herts right now (Irish Centre and Spirella).
  5. If it's the yellow one (as opposed to the red one), I got an original with reversed labels.....and lots of writing on the label....
  6. All class acts who know a good tune when they see one
  7. Funnily enough I got my 7 at Yarmouth too at the same time....someone must have had quantity on it then Seriously it was pressed on 7 in a quantity of 150 or 300 (can't remember which now) for jukeboxes only. Buy now as one day it'll become hellishly hard to find.
  8. You are right of course and many events follow this course. Same policy at Lifeline (though inevitably at a nine hour event one or two slipped through the net while DJs are outside having a fag or summat) but generally NO repeats. Same thing at Essence Saturday night - which is a toughie if you're on last like me You sit there listening to all these gems getting dropped in ahead of you. Same thing at the Herts and Beds venues such as the Irish Centre, Blue Skies, Spirella, and The Ath, where the DJ's agree not to re-programme sounds that have already been played that evening. It's easy really and it's not an uncommon approach. I accept the point about turning up early, but not always possible on a Friday evening do.....I physically cannot get to a venue much before 8 30 and I think if something is played early doors it may be OK to spin it once again later when the place is heaving. But there in heart and spirit and agree with the non repetition spirit. Steve
  9. Yeah and I bet they were his "House" 12s as well Blake Had this on the radio in the old days of Soul 24-7. The shows had to be precise lengths because they were re-run in 3 hour slots, so you had to do exactly 2 h 57 mins thus allowing 3 mins for ads etc. So the DJ in front of me had an annoying habit of cueing up some 7 mins 12" at about 6.58 This would have meant that his show would have ended up behing 3 h 05 mins and mine would have been 2 mins 52 - a nightmare for re-programming into 3 hour blocks. Anyway to prevent this happening I took his selection off on time (after 2 mins) thus preserving the balance. The next week he does the same thing with some ridiculously long thing, but this time stays in his seat behind the console "clearing up"and refiling his records into his bag, to prevent me from taking it off the decks and starting on time. So this time it was Plan B from me, gave him a bolloxing, and grassed him up to the station manager who was not impressed. Funilly enough he never did it again
  10. Guess it also depends what the promotor has to say.....If he says "I am just playing a couple more", as a guest DJ, you agree and fiddle around with your selections don't you? I mean you don't start arguing with him etc. Steve
  11. Think the orig is a yellowy / limey green with a red surround on True Soul. Well that's what mines like anyway and I picked it up from Uncle Pat in Leeds back in the early 90s.
  12. Yeah I'd agree quite a big hit for them.
  13. Well if you name and shame am sure the winker won't get another booking.....totally disrespecting the paying public by mucking up the sound....as you say "tart" so who was it?
  14. Yes and knowing Pep it was probably the boot you left behind
  15. I always keep an eye on the DJ ahead of me and when he / she goes on, so can tell if he or she is "bullsitting" or not when they do the "I came on late" routine. Best one we ever had was Cockney Mick who we had to forcibly remove from the decks to cries of "just one more" about 15 minutes after his alloted time. If u r squeezed between 2 well known DJs might be best just do do the 50 mins and walk away gracefully -albeit 4 records short of a full set.
  16. I loved the photo of the guy "inspecting" a rare Rolling Stones album "worth $10,000" with a magnifying glass - I mean what was he inspecting exactly? I think most of us know there's tons of unsellable junk out there, in fact you see it in every charity shop in the UK, this was just tghe same thing magnifyed by 1000 times........what a shame it's being relisted But as I said earlier the seller is obviously delusional, so he must be disapointed with his 50m collection being bid on by a fraud at 3m methinks
  17. Ha isn't that JUST what we thought all along. Inconceivable that the good stuff would still be in there.

Thanks Mark. Yup the LR Superstars is a forgotten gem.....just right for radio
  19. Somebody somewhere needs you and Go for yourself Larry Laster, seem to recall they probably have the same backing track, though I'd need to check that one....as my mind might be playing tricks. Believe Eddie Ray might be Eddie Horan
  20. Pretty certain this didn't get released, I consider to have a complete run of orange and blue Volt releases (all of 'em) and I don't have this one. If ir did come out it must be bloomin' rare and that's unlikely with a label like Volt which pressed in large quantities. STEVE
  21. I have both and as Andy D played Eddie Ray, I played ZZ Hill at Lifeline but was told it was "boring" by someone

And I'd say not to be missed for the 2nd and 3rd hour either - I'll be playing 70s and 80s things.....and possibly some slow stuff.
