Ain't No Mountain High Enough
I think you can stand corrected my friend. Mick Smith has been playing it for some time before that. I also think the video of this that Motown did at the Michigan State Fair or wherever it was, is one of the best ever made.

Tired 70`s Tunes...?
No didn't know that, and I do wish I had believed him and gone down there for that. He was a really nice guiy when I spoke to him, and I am glad he made $$$ out of that slippery Phil Collins success.

Exactly the same as me Dave, and I agree with your sentiment entirely.

I am getting confused now - is Pro2026 saying there's a version of Funky Corners on Chess, or an instrumental of Am I the same girl. Soulful Strut used to always get played at the discos in Kent in the 70's, and there are several other versions of it about as well.

How Lucky We Are
I went to a friends wedding in the south west last saturday. I can honestly say it was the worst disco I have ever heard. Some of the girls on the table I was on asked for some Motown, cos they liked "dancing to it". So the DJ played two Supremes records No soul was played at all, and in the end I went and had a look at his screen to see what he hadon his laptop - looking for something cheesy like "Ain't no mountain" - and guess what he didn't even have that. No Philly at all. Truly dreadful - so I just kept drinking beer

Just had a look through all the Chess records and I don't think that is so.

I think it was a dance where four of you stand in corners (i.e. to make a square type shape) and move in and out both together and in turn (a bit like the "hokey kokey" then ). I would be willing to demonstrate this dance at a venue, but need at least three willing victims to show it to full effect. Some venues I've been to recently wouldn't be able to put on the "Funky 16 Corners " unless the DJs and bar staff joined in

Into Northern Soul But Not The Northern Soul Scene
Funny but my son thinks we're all a sad bunch of tired old losers .....But he does like a few records like Dean Parrish, Younghearts, some Motown and most surprisingly The Royal Esquires cos he thinks it's like a drum'n bass record That being said, his musical taste does seem to follow that of whatever his current girlfriend likes.

Some people do say that about me It DID start life as the Funky 4 Corners (a dance), then became the Funky 8 Corners and I think I have one called "Funky 16 corners" somewhere as well.....
