  1. Hmmm I saw that too when I went through his stuff...stuck on labels wtf I thought....
  2. 75 Toad, it was mainly soft reggae and covers......not bad but not brilliant - Lp and 2 x 45s....
  3. Two on Capitol I believe. It came about when they came to NY in the 60s as part of the Worlds Trade fair and met Luther Dixon. The 'Busters were two Jamaican dudes - they were on a load of other labels, including Minit, Shout, Scepter etc. Plus a load more on Jamaican labels....Don't know on value?
  4. The "badge of honour" has to be turning up at a venue and being told you won't like it, because it's a "soul do". I know that has happened to someone on here.....
  5. Cheers. It was funny cos someone came up to one of Lorraine's older brothers (a Sparky) and said "Do you remember me? I used to work with you". I think not being on the scene he was quite surprised by that....
  6. we were down the far end - furthest from the door - the noisy bunch on the end table
  7. Always up for a chat but you are a bit difficult to identify by your avatar
  8. Have to admire your determination Russ.......but to be honest can't see too many attending.
  9. Can't be fussed if "welcomed" or not....Went to a soul night in a different part of the country Saturday with some extended family, a bit out of the way for most of yer, in fact we didn't know anyone at all. No one, although "err indoors" did find someone she used to go to Wigan with and I recognised a couple of faces I'd seen at Cleethorpes. We turned up, paid our money, found a table, got a drink, had a listen, had a dance, got on with it....spoke to a few people etc. I'd be more uncomfortable with nosey parkers asking who we were / where we were from, are we "soulies"? etc....Go out and make your own enjoyment....unless you are a complete hermit crab you'll end up talking to folk and having a good time.
  10. Mighty Lovers c/up is fabulous.... You'd get blank faces at most oldies soul nights and a request to "play something we know".....sorry Ted!
  11. Hi Steve, Yes the history is correct, Dewhirst had it first. Got mine from Rod as part of the deal with Sam Dees "Funny"./.....ATB Steve
  12. Yiddish SBA isn't sh*t, it's OK. But not really good enough to play in a club.....Hence it's stayed on the Chess shelf.....a collectors curio for sure!
  13. Thanks for posting. Always good to get the perspective from someone on the inside.....my perspective was from the other side of the screen in the Cinema....didn't know about the shambles...altho now you mention it, I seem to recall Karen B telling me something similar....
  14. They both seem speeded up, the first one is pretty close to the LP, maybe +2 pitch on. But that second one with the blue background is a joke. Pinky & Perky return! Or the return of Simon Soussan? you decide
  15. Yes Randolph Cozens put us onto it,,......
  16. Hi Simon yes likewise. I'll bring me copy along,,,,,,Steve
  17. Yes "O". A few have shown up but it's still pretty rare....
  18. Darn you Simsy, the idea of an approved NS Dance instructor Certification was my BIG idea to make some money out of the scene.....guess I'll have to look for another avenue now.....themed NS burgers at soul nights it is then...."The Frank Wilson Half Pounder" is an early winner!
  19. Coming to an OAP home near you....real soon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMJ6a4WTVRY
  20. especially for Winnie and others....not strictly a dancing lesson mind.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSIzzwvbAuI
  21. Andy no one cares whether she went or not.....
  22. we went to see it at the cinema, thursday night date....apart from weak script and some cringeworthy moments it was ok as a piece of entertainment.
  23. Soul Boy? Wasn't Russ the consultant on that? Tells you all you need to know, but he's not on here to defend himself so I'll stop there.... You can't draw a comparison. The attention to detail that has gone into the new film to make it as accurate a recreation of a moment in time nearly 40 years ago is quite amazing.
  24. I am not understanding the negativity here.....frankly if Wikipedia is now the source for assessing someones credentials to make a film, then we're all doomed.
  25. I haven't been under the "new management" but under the "old management" it had degenerated into a retro-tat market like Spitalfields on a saturday. I got caught up in some circle skirts which were hanging up, just trying to get behind the tables to sit with one of the few remaining record dealers....Let's hope it's got better.....
