  5. It wasn't but Kev says they had the tapes? The acetate was around long before the sevens, Rob Marriott was playing it very late 80's early 90's, dunno where he got it from.
  6. Pretty sure there was a newspaper clipping posted at one time from when the 45 was released or about mr soul gigging?
  7. Magic isn't it. I posted it a while a go after seeing it somewhere. Keep meaning to download it before it gets lost.
  8. Just read on the Classic Urban Harmony site that Little Joe Cook passed away in April. Little Joe Cook of the Thrillers (1922 - 2014) Little Joe Cook, known for his falsetto hits like "Peanuts" with the Philadelphia vocal group the Thrillers, died on April 16, 2014. Cook was born in South Philly but moved to North Philly as a youngster where he formed the gospel group, the Evening Star Quartet. The group recorded several outstanding songs including "Say A Prayer For The Boys In Korea". By the mid-1950's Little Joe had moved into secular music, forming and mentoring the group, the Thrillers, with whom he ended up singing lead. They scored with the song "Peanuts" which propelled Cook to fame. Joe Cook continued singing for the remainder of his life, mostly in the Boston area. He made countless recordings for different labels. For the story of Joe Cook and the Thrillers early career, visit www.classicurbanharmony.net and scroll down the left hand side to click on "Groups From Philly's Francisville" under Articles By Us. Listen to a YouTube of "Peanuts".

  11. I don't think we know who it is singing, uncredited acetate and as said found in Maxx Kidd's basement by Andy Rix. Andy might be able to tell us more.
  12. I'm not 100% Phil but I think there may have been an original acetate and that being the only source. I know Rob Marriott was the one who made it a biggie, not sure who he got it from.

  14. The Bridges one is a far more laid back jazzy feel to it, not the hard edged stomper the other one is.
  15. No it isn't, same record yes but totally different take of it, no where near as good.
  16. https://testpressing.wordpress.com/2009/06/17/more-cutting-room-heroes/ Plenty of other links to Ron and the NSC if you google NSC.

  21. There is also the straight 60's take that was on the CD Chris King did, slower and a different lead, Freddie Gorman possibly? I couldn't see a clip on YT.
  22. Not a lot of difference really, like I said I doubt most would tell in the middle of an all-nighter.
  23. It's preferred by me. I didn't realise there was a preferred one, doubt many would realise which was which when the needle hits the disc at 3am.
  24. I think this is the original version played on this scene, the one that came from Robb, hopefully he will confirm.
