  1. Is that justification/an excuse for playing it? It was done without permission so it is most definitely a bootleg.
  2. The Teardrops is The Teardrops, unreleased track included on the flip to the Chubby Checker "You can't lose something you never had" anniversary 45 6t9.
  3. Chalky replied to Barry's topic in Look At Your Box
I think you will find that comment was made with tongue firmly in cheek if you knew me you'd know that
  4. Fay Jones has been in touch with news of her forthcoming Souldham 2 on saturday January 12th 2013. The highlight of the night will be the appearance of not one, not two, but three artists should guarantee a packed house. Spyder Turner needs little introduction. His only appearance in this country to date was for a private event. With Northern Soul Classics to his name such as "I'm AlIve With The Loving Feeling", "You're Good Enough For Me", "I Can't Take It No More/Don't Hold Back" and "I've Got To Get Myself Together". His LP "Stand By Me" is a must for all collectors. Famed for his impersonations of other singers he will be one act not to be missed. Pat Lewis is another who needs no introduction to UK Soul music lovers having visited these shores several times. "Warning" , "Let's Go Together", "I Can't Shake It Lose" and the rarity "No One To Love". Lastly Daryl Grant might not be a name familiar with everyone but his CV includes many acts that are more than familiar. Singer Darryl was the lead singer of Fat Larry's band appearing on three of their releases. Darryl has also recorded with The Rolling Stones, Eddie Kendricks, Blue Magic, and Major Harris and had a brief stint with The Natural Four. He is also member of the vocal group Spectrum who's award winning show ran for four years in Las Vegas. Spectrum’s credits include European tours, headlining aboard Royal Caribbean, Princess & Norwegian Cruise Line ships, a Doo-Wop to Soul Review at the Hollywood Palladium, as well as performances with over 40 symphony orchestras throughout North America. Visit Darryl's website: http://www.darrylgrantmusic.webs.com/ As for the rest of the day and night it is a real marathon of soul music in two rooms with 16 hours of music with 24 DJ's from around the country. Main Hall Every genre of Northern Soul to add a touch of fun we have the battle of the DJ's England via Scotland. Expect a few tricks from these DJ's as they battle it out. Live on stage at around 9.30pm direct from the USA Darryl Grant, Pat Lewis and Spyder Turner backed by a full backing band The DJ Jones Band AKA Soul-What This will be the first public appearance of Spyder Turner and Darryl Grant in the UK. In the Chadderton Suite from 2pm to 3am the music policy is Motown, Philly, Club Classics and Ska. 3am to 6am Freestyle Please note that all our DJ's have given their time for free. 6. It was Stafford. Win You Over is on the flip, or was that the second acetate? Anyway both played back then. Butch has the acetates now.
  7. Better than your average badge
  8. I mean across the scene. I agree it is a fabulous double sider but it simply, to me, doesn't seem to have caught on like it should have. Plenty of DJ's seem to have a copy but seem reluctant to play it with any regularity.
  9. Hi Kev, I meant turned up over here 1991. As Andy mentioned the first o e over here came via Craig Moerer. Fantastic double sider but never really taken off for some reason. Don't think any DJ has got behind it for long enough really.
  10. Thanks Dave, think I remember some fuss about tis now you've reminded me. I have one of the versions on tape (c90 not agfa ) complete with studio countdown intro etc. I think it is what they eventually used on the CD release.
  11. Are we talking about the acetate cut at Abbey Road in 1979 John Mnaship auctioned?
  12. It was Martin who found it Jim, about the time you mention, maybe 1991? Shipped over to Tim and the rest is as they say history.
  13. It's called "I didn't have to" and it's on International Soulsville. It's expensive as well.
  14. Not insulting anyone Kev, what I mean by the type of venue you promote is an oldies night, supposedly playing the best of the last 40 odd years, think you know what I mean as well. I doubt Andy or Mick would resort to a record like Beggin or he reggae records mentioned either. if Beggin is in the book I dare say it isn't as good as what it has replaced.
  15. Gary Rushbrooke looks like Frank Spencer in that photo with Russ and Pat
  16. I can't understand why Beggin' and the reggae tracks mentioned are even considered when you think about he embarrassment of (Northern) Soul riches available to Dj's today, in particular at the type of event Kev promotes.
  17. I thought I'd seen SW on a playlist of one of your regulars? Maybe not then. The underground and the continuation of the scene is the bigger picture not a bunch of retro soulies the wrong side of 50/60 who won't be around for many more years. No matter what you say the isn't enough youngsters with the attitude we have/had to continue the scene. There isnt enough youngsters to fill a nighter on the so called collectors scene. Most disappear when job/family take over. As for popularity, who says so? I and many I know knew nothing of any poll to define the the top 500. I doubt many of those outside the Goldsoul scene got a say in this? Anyway as Pete says you've had plenty of publicity out of this topic so I'll shut up
  18. If his ratings are that bad that he is going to get thrown of eBay you would think he would wise up and change his business practises.
  19. Well we've had this argument before me and you Kev and I still gotta disagree with you. Not everyone's cuppa I know but it is far from a dead duck. Packed the floors since Butch first played it, later Kitch, Mick H and dare say Andy Killick if he gets the chance to play it out. You were right though it is impossible to get and impossible for your crowd to hear unless you book Mick or Butch really, many might still not know the record or how to dance to it if they haven't heard it before. yes it is messy as well, but that is the attraction with many NS classics, the fact they aren't polished "hits", they are raw and full of soul and passion. Does it for me every time the Mello Souls You also have to remember that the rare and obscure scene, well without it many records that have crossed over to the oldies/retro scene it wouldn't have been possible if it wasn't for those collectors. Many records that your DJ's play were first heard and made popular on the so called collectors scene. What about the likes of Jean Carter - I Wanna Know? Has that made the book? If that isn't a stomper of the traditional kind I don't know what is. What about JT Parker that is popular with Ginger? A Lifeline spin for Andy Dyson. Jesse James - Love Is Alright, Stormye Winters, Hank Hodge, the list is endless of records that would and have crossed over to the oldies scene. Maybe I should attempt a soul source top 500 see how it compares? There is a scene outside of Goldsoul you know
  20. It's about $8 shipping from US isn't it? Hope you gave him the lowest rating?
  21. They might be flavour of the month for some DJ's but are you or anyone else seriously suggesting that they are amongst he definitive top 500 Northern Soul/Rare soul records of the last 40 odd years? I doubt they would make the top 5000. Stoned Love wouldn't even make the top 500 Motown records.
  22. Bloody hell, I'm agreeing with you Pete And who plays Stoned Love? Spoken intro or not, I can't imagine anyone putting that in a top 500 all time Northern Soul records!!
  23. believe it or not I am actually older than Andy
  24. it does say download only and sold out?
