  1. But isn't this topic about over the other side of the water in Europe? Across the board sets work mighty fine over there.
  2. I have the actual photo, got it from Dave Raistrick. They aren't very big either which was weird size of a postcard or something like. Will dig it out and scan for you. Here's one I have on the PC.....
  3. Sort of related, bit here about Southern Plastics/United and a cool video as well. https://www.urpressing.com/history.php
  4. Have you got a picture of them Dave? I can help out there.
  5. Poor quality or not its a great record IMO, but I would say that wouldn't I Brief Stafford spin for Keb.
  6. I don't think any DJ forgets their roots or the roots of the scene, it's called moving on, progression, how it was back in the beginning of the scene, always seeking something new. The records you mention have been hammered for decades and I am not knocking them but it does get tiresome hearing the same records over and over. You say you've only recently returned since the 70's? During all that time away did you go to night clubs etc and listen to the same TOP 40 for all those years? I now find myself going out less and less. The scene has become so stale I simply can't be bothered right now.
  7. Always loved this record.
  8. All of them. You can of course share a link from soundcloud or YouTube.
  9. Daran and Ja Wes.
  10. No one has ever said it is because they dislike the music, it is usually because they don't know the music on offer and therefore can't dance.
  11. they are all rare in the grand scheme of things although I don't think they play rare records at not so rare events
  12. Who are these that sneer from on high as I don't see this. Nor do I see DJ's on a pedestal. I keep reading crap like this but no one is prepared to name anyone or any venue. I see DJ's asked to play the records they are best known for, sometimes that isn't suitable for the crowd but that isn't the fault of the DJ, again it is the promoter who I have no doubt had good intentions and probably wants to hear something different but his crowd don't want it, they want what they hear every week.
  13. I've been booked to play a particular set, I'm sure others have, I've double checked are you sure? When you get there, totally unsuitable for the crowd that attends. Whose fault is that, it's not the DJ's although he is the one who gets the blame and the bad name. Maybe some promoters should wise up a little.
  14. What is a rarer event? There are some mighty rare classics you seem to hear every week. Is this what you mean or are you referring to venues that play records not so well known?
  15. Me too, pretty much a set if oldies you would hear up and down the country on any given week!
  16. Mark Speakman had Margaret Little first didn't he? I have a playlist from Butch in Feb 1986, the Mello Souls is on that. I think it was early 90's Shifty got it.
  17. I hope all you would be authors think of publishing a digital copy as well?
  18. He got it back in he 90s didn't he and played it uncovered then. Butch was playing it in 1986.
  19. I don't disbelieve him mate, I'm genuinely interested.
  20. ffs I doubt there's one person attends a venue that they are forced to attend and forced to Listen to a format that is in breach of their principles. Most of us know where we are going and what we are letting ourselves in for. Most of us know the promoters, the Dj's and the policy of any particular club so WHY on earth is this constantly regurgitated? Those that attend venues where the format is in breach of Soul scene etiquette couldn't give a toss so why on earth do some constantly worry about them. Ffs go out and do what you want to do and enjoy it before its too late and let those who couldn't care get on with it. If someone wishes to play tracks off a laptop, whoopie fookin do, you are not got to stop them or change them and it won't spoil my night out wherever I choose to go.
  21. Try Andy Dyson. Email Dysonsoul@aol.com
  22. Too many think it is ok now Russ, that's why this topic keeps getting regurgitated. Out and about I bet there's less than 10% in a venue who actually care what format is being played.
  23. Are you saying 2002 was first time out for the Mello Souls? And who played Margaret Little at the Ritz cause none of those listed had it first to my knowledge?
