Mr Lucky
I'd forgotten all about that story Andy but now you recap it, it does stir the grey matter. At least it has answered Nev's question although I d like to know when he remembers it being covered as it as been uncovered for years as far as I know. Been in contact with Luckey for a long time Keith, back from when I was researching Higland. He did ask me if I could move ten copies of "I was born to love you" and that he had sold a handful to someone in France. Think he was wanting too much for them at the time.

Don't talk rubbish. No one has said you can't have an opinion nor has anyone told you to shut up. You were slagging something off you don't like and by the looks of it have no intention of listening to, all I asked was why moan about it. You should try and quantify your comments rather than simply slag somethng off.

Monarch Pressing Dates Full List ?
Dave Flynn started to catalogue monarch presses over on the RSF. Dunno how far he's got with it.

Sam Fletcher
Exactly, they call em counterfeits. Plenty of bootleggers/counterfeiters used "all rights reserved" and other official looking abbreviations on the label.

Rca Custom Press - Grapevine Label
I have an magazine at home about the Grapevine Label, (done in the 80's I think) and sure it has scans of quite a few Grapevine RCA acetates. I'll have to dig the magazine out.

Mr Lucky
If you listen to a couple of the videos on YouTube of George Kerr you can probably see why Mr Lucky was covered as George Kerr but I guess the only definitive answer is the one Butch has. I have a playlist from Butch where he played this upstairs at the last Stafford allnighter.

Mr Lucky
Was probably covered up as George Kerr Nev, been sometime and can't remember for sure. Butch been playing it since mid 80's. Luckey Davis has a copy or two of this.

Sir Joe Quarterman Live In Manchester Tomorrow
Me too, didn't know about it either. Wish they'd get these on at the weekend.

I fully agree with you and I think we are singing from the same hymn sheet. Ballads in the right place at the right time have their place but like you say not a run of them at 4am.

Then why moan about it? And I I'm sure the likes of Roger could satisfy a night with uptempo Modern Soul.

I actually said that in my first post on here. As long as the promoter lets people know the situation and you know and accept what is happening then no cause for complaint is there really.

There are probably a few examples of places where the scene is small, South West, Scotland like Steve mentions, maybe Anglia. But large parts of the country it is like you say mental! Take a look at the calendar for Notts or South Yorkshire!

At the end of the day it is each to his or her own. If someone wants to listen to a ballad what the f*ck is it to do with anyone else? As I've said earlier there is a plethora of venues around the country, go somewhere else if what is on offer doesn't suit you, I know I do go where I chose and not where I'm forced to endure music that doesn't appeal to me.

again you talk out of your arse.....you contradict yourself so many times. Rare Soul is Northern Soul and Northern Soul is Rare Soul. It was Soul/Rare Soul before it was Northern. Most people I know want too play dance music and listen to dance music, including those who frequent the "Rare Soul" scene. You don't go to these venues as far as I know so how come you know so much about them? I can't think of any time I've heard the Walter Jackson you mention at any all-nighter off the top of my head??

You are just generalising again. I don't know one promoter or DJ that seriously sets out so that no one dances. Some have a different idea of what they want to listen to and if it doesn't work then that is a different story. Not everyone wants to listen to or dance to the classics of the casino, torch etc. Promoters have to take a lot of the blame for when a DJ doesn't go down well with the locals. What a certain promoter want and what the locals want is often very different, I've witnessed it all too often. I've also had punters come up asking for classics when the night is clearly stated, unknown, semi-known, forgotten or whatever moniker you want to give them.

I think 99% know it is a dance scene.

What is the topic Steve, it says Right of Reply but there's about half a dozen topics being discussed here.

You are wrong and makes me wonder just how you came to the above from what I said? Anyone can see from the calendar alone that by and large there are too many venues. I don't care what he policy is or what the format the DJs will be playing there are far too many. I've lookked on occasion at e event calendar and within an hour of me some weekends there have been 30,40 and at least once 50 events over the weekend. If that is good for the scene then Christ knows how bad it has to get before it has a detrimental effect on the scene. Many venues are suffering with attendances, especially in today's economic climate so wouldn't it make sense to do away with some events and have one or two decent events with a full house and great atmosphere no matter what the policy or format of the music? 40 events within an hour of me, you could lose at least 30 of them and have decent events to suit all tastes and still give everyone a choice! Of course there will be areas where this won't be the case and there is a reasonably healthy local scene but these are few and far between. It is time for some promoters and some DJs to stop being so selfish and look at the bigger picture, for the good of everyone , all IMO of course. It is time folk got their heads together or banged together

Delta Number 79239
Is there a monarch table for delta numbers after 1969?

Never Right Surely ?
The seller is conning people with the description, like Pete says it is a boot and should be described ss one. What is the price for a boot? Theres several examples every week of lunatics escaping the asylum and paying daft money, not just for originals but boots.

Less venues the scene would be stronger IMO. It has become so diluted with so many DJ's playing the same records who along with pormoters only seem to care about themselves and not the bigger picture.

Waymond Hall hardly cutting edge though is it now Steve, been about for a while and the Volumes is hammmred to death and needs a bloody good rest. There is very little cutting edge out there, lots of venues that claim to be cutting edge are playing to a select few, a minority with records that just arent good enough for a wider audience (many simply not good enough and only played cause they are rare or talked about) and the scene needs records that appeal to many not just a minority. You are in a fortunate situation where you have a strong student following in manchester and will listen to different stuff but they travel hardly anywhere outside of Manchester and once thy come out of University, settle into a normal life will probably be not seen again, they cannot be relief upon to further the scene. This isnt a criticsism either Steve so plaese dont take it that way, just the way I see it right now.

Yeah but only 500 ever pressed! A boot if you ask me.

Good point Pete and one reason im finding it harder to get enthusiastic about going out is beause ive heard most of what is played time and time again. There is little imagination on todays scene. Theres a lot of pathy creeping in amongst many who have been there week in week out and not missed ten tears or more. As good as the records are there comes a point when you think what is the point anymore if no one seems bothered about the music.

Friday night all-nighters rarely work and a mid week soul might might work whee there is a large student population but relying on soul scene regulars, forget it.
