  1. Wasn't The Drifter an early 70's play?
  2. Beats per minute measure tempo, we deal with basically three, up, mid and ballad but other use different terms such as Joan. But the proper definitions are.....This will really confuse you now and give it all a whole new meaning (from Wikipedia) Basic tempo markings All of these markings are based on a few root words. By adding an -issimo ending the word is amplified/made louder, by adding an -ino or -etto ending the word is diminished/made softer. The metronome marks are broad approximations. Note: Metronome markings are a guide only and depending on the time signature and the piece itself, these figures may not be appropriate in every circumstance. Larghissimo " very, very slow (20 bpm and below) Grave " slow and solemn (20-40 bpm) Lento " slowly (40-60 bpm) Largo " broadly (40-60 bpm) Larghetto " rather broadly (60-66 bpm) Adagio " slow and stately (literally, "at ease") (66-76 bpm) Adagietto " rather slow (70-80 bpm) Andante moderato " a bit slower than andante Andante " at a walking pace (76-108 bpm) Andantino - slightly faster than andante (although in some cases it can be taken to mean slightly slower than andante) Moderato " moderately (108-120 bpm) Marcia Moderato " moderately, in the manner of a march Allegretto " moderately fast (but less so than allegro) Allegro moderato " moderately quick (112-124 bpm) Allegro " fast, quickly and bright (120-168 bpm) Vivace " lively and fast (¢°í"¹" 140 bpm) (quicker than allegro) Vivacissimo " very fast and lively Allegrissimo " very fast Presto " very fast (168-200 bpm) Prestissimo " extremely fast (more than 200bpm) Additional Terms: A piacere " the performer may use his own discretion with regard to tempo and rhythm; literally "at pleasure"[4] L'istesso tempo or Lo stesso tempo " at the same speed Tempo comodo " at a comfortable (normal) speed Tempo di... " the speed of a ... (such as Tempo di valse (speed of a waltz), Tempo di marcia (speed of a march)) Tempo giusto " at a consistent speed, at the 'right' speed, in strict tempo Tempo semplice " simple, regular speed, plainly [edit]Common qualifiers
  3. He got it from John Vincent didn't he? Remember John telling me he offered it to Richard Searling who said it was too good for the Northern Crowd or words to that effect.
  4. I have a recording of an alternative take of this somewhere at home.
  5. A ballad is walking pace, really down tempo, basically it isnt in general a dancer. A Beat ballad is what it says, a ballad with a beat and cause it has a beat it could be a dancer. Mid tempo Is neither fast nor slow so a mid tempo track would be too fast for this topic in reality.. Many of those mentioned are mid tempo.
  6. I would say the vinyl carvers are just as if not thicker than the Timmion discs.
  7. https://www.madonnacatalog.com/guides/acetate.htm
  8. The type with lacquer on metal. Vinyl carvers are what they say vinyl. All I've had sound dull compared to the ones from Timmion.
  9. Timmion are the old style acetate and sound quality is better than Vinyl Carvers. There's the Music House or whatever they are called in Tottenham.
  10. Sounds like the Just Brothers - Go On And Laugh. One of Butch's records. One off acetate I believe.
  11. Sir Caesar "Show me the time" on Ride. First record I paid a three figure sum for.
  12. Why did you wait ten years and get up at that time? There's loads on eBay all the time. Highlands biggest seller if memory serves me right, kept the label going for awhile.
  13. Mikeyof, we do have a vast back catalogue and the search facility is very good. Many subjects have been covered and it might be an idea to have a quick search for older topics? I think all that needs to be said has be said. Topic closed.
  14. Oh and Stafford TOTW, it was 30 years ago this month when it all began.
  15. https://www.soulunderground.co.uk/StaffordTOTW/ It is work in progress and I will get through all the DJ's in time. The podcasts from Dave Withers, Gary Rushbrooke and Richard Searling and some of Dave Torleys all cover the first year or so. More to come from Ady Pountain (this weekend hopefully), Adam, Pat, Guy, Keb, Robin, George Sharp and anyone else involved at Stafford. Some of the podcasts featured actually replicate sets from the second Stafford Night and one from Richard in I think 83.
  16. Doesn't surprise me it was played earlier though I wouldn't have thought it was deemed good enough for Cleethorpes.
  17. Gary Spencer late 80's early 90's. Billy Lennox cover up.
  18. By slowie I would imagine that means beat ballad/ballad not mid tempo?
  19. Milton James, Little Johnny Hamilton and Swans, all on Dore. Milton James at least two know, the other two single known copies.
  20. The Bunky copy, theres at least one in this country isn't there. Few Rouser copies now. Junior McCants on King, Kell Osborne spring to mind. Most of Butch's biggies. A mate has at least half a dozen where there are just one "known" copy and he doesn't DJ or go anywhere really. I say "known" cause no one really knows what is out there, there's every chance there is a box load of some rarity waiting to be found. But Jim is right there are stacks of records rarer and as rare as Frank Wilson.
  21. First of all welcome to the site. I'm sure you will find it everything you want it to be, lots of knowledge and information and plenty of event chatter. Secondly no one has rapped your knuckles, Mike has simply tried to guide you in the right direction as your topics were plainly in the wrong place. There is a comprehensive dedicated events section and calendar with plenty of comments and look backs which hopefully will help you make your mind up about a venue. The "All About The Soul" forum is for general scene talk that isn't record, label or artist related, that all goes in the "Look At Your Box" forum. Non soul chatter goes in the magazine section which should be self explanatory. We also have a "Source Feedback" forum for all your questions to anything you are unsure about. Ask if unsure and I'm certain you will get the help and answers you require. Enjoy Soul Source.
  22. Four mates are having a golf day to raise funds for the Macmillan Cancer Support Trust. The four, Alan "Kitch" Kitchener, Tim "Tef" Broughton, Colin Law and Andy Whitmore will play four rounds of golf in one day. Might not sound a lot but each round will take approximately four hours and in total covering something like 22 miles. This will be done all on foot. The day will take place on July 1st at The West Linton Golf Course who have donated the course free of charge and supplied a buggy free of charge. This will be chauffeured by James "Jock" O'Connor and Stephen "Chuddy" Dudley. I wonder how many dents will be in it by the end The guys are asking for your support to raise as much as possible for such a worthy cause. You can donate by visiting http://uk.virginmone...ers&isTeam=true here's what they say.... Hi, thanks for visiting our page. We are the golfshoeshufflers. Alan Kitchener, Andy "Toots" Whitmore, Colin Law and Tim "Tef" Broughton. All of us have been affected by cancer with friends and close family members and Macillan cancer has helped those people close to us in their final days bringing them hope, reassurance and above all dignity. So what better way to pay back their support and kindness by raising money for their future work with other cancer patients. Please give what you can and all donations will be greatly appreciated. The longest day golf challenges means we have to complete 4 18 hole rounds of golf in the same day, an average game taking 4 hours to complete and over 20 miles to walk. None of us have single figure handicaps so this will some task for 4 "oldish" guys to complete, but with the help of our 2 buggy drivers "Jock & Chuddy" I think we can do it with all your support and donations of course. We would also like to thank West Linton Golf Course for supporting our cause and letting use their course for the challenge. Please visit their site.http://www.wlgc.co.u....php/index.html PLEASE NOTE WE ARE TAKING THE CHALLNGE ON 1ST JULY 2012. You can learn more about the Macmillan Cancer Support Team at http://www.macmillan.org.uk/Home.aspx and you can see the course they are playing at http://www.wlgc.co.u....php/index.html
