  1. Poll for those of you who are interested.... /forums/topic/211824-poll-your-night-out/
  2. For a record that you rarely see I was surprised at the price. Excellent record and well worthy of more spins. It's in my playbox and does get played.
  3. But any expenses incurred harassing Simsy would far far outweigh any recompense that could come their way. I doubt they would get past first base? He has only done one cut for dj purposes and not as a money making scheme. If he'd booted it then I could fully understand the Jackson Estate seeking recompense. It is on a Collectables CD isn't it....maybe DJ's should play the cd instead, bout time promoters put cd decks in anyway The original acetate was bought in good faith, it was in a poor state so cuts taken. These were then traded on. Others had further cuts done in more recent times. Look at the amount of acetates on ebay, if the record companies were bothered then they could begin their actions there, Bell Sound acetates for instance appear often on ebay now and then. The label owned by Sony isn't it? They aren't bothered until someone starts making money out of their material.
  4. some of the biggest and most expensive records on this scene came about via dodgy means, Frank Wilson being the biggest, I didn't see Motown going after Kenny or Tim. The exposure probably made them more money.
  5. what is so funny? I know some who have bought studio tapes from producers in the states, some via the internet. What is wrong with doing a cut of a track on them? Possesion 9/10ths of the law. If you've bought something in good faith them you can't really be held accountable.
  6. Ace/Kent own the rights to plenty, they didn't finance or pay for the original recording session so not strictly true is it?
  7. not necessarily, rights can change hands. But if you own the studio tapes, as long as not stolen to your knowledge I can't see anyone coming after you for making a cut of an unissued track. I personally think anything from a studio track as long as the owner of the tapes gives you permission then it is fine, why deny the scene a bloody good record?
  8. you know full well what I'm talking about and I'm not wasting my time having petty squabble with you
  9. I can't find a sound file for this one on your tube (I can the other side) but one I recommend wholeheartedly is..... Reuben Wright - You Done Me Wrong - Capitol. (Click on the website link of mine and it is in my podcast). It is a forgotten Stafford play of Chris kings only he played an acetate with different lead (one of the producers I think). It was covered as Eddie Holman, you can see why upon listening and it is also a Harthon Production. Brilliant piece of Northern Soul I've got behind/resurrected that IMO has everything. Killa since picked one up and now playing it too. You can get one for around £20, price of a carver and not much more than a boot, who said you can't get decent cheap originals As a bonus great deep soul flip too https://youtu.be/jdEy0SnKPoI
  10. if you own the rights, have the studio tape, permission etc and cut to a carver then it isn't a boot.
  11. Someday The Sun Will Shine actually exists on an acetate. As far as I'm aware 3 or 4 acetates/dubs/cuts (whatever you want to call them, vinyl carvers didn't exist then) were cut by the owner and given to some other DJ's. Any done since......I'll leave for you to decide.
  12. As there has been two or three suggestions for a poll I will set one up. Memory says we have had one before though.
  13. I did read that Robert Bateman could be involved with Hurdy Gurdy (was on Soulful Detroit) and the opinion was a bit divided whether it was a NY label recorded in NY or a NY label recorded in Detroit or done between the two. Not a lot of help.
  14. Well they are booted because they are popular and had a lot of spins at clubs. You don't see many boots of unknowns do you
  15. you look at ebay, sort by highest price and hardly any at top genuine sales, all teasers to get you to visit their shop. I thought this was against ebay rules anyway?
  16. who is royalty? has anyone labelled you anything...no, so no need for you to make things worse by inflaming matters is there just because someone has a different set of beliefs.
  17. one post removed because of inappropriate language. If you can't edit your swearing then it will be removed. Please cut the off topic as well
  18. several posts removed because of the inappropriate language
  19. think you will find they are all properly licensed.
  20. I wonder how many Constellations he had, it was everywhere at one time. Gerri Hall for £3 too. Kell Osborne on Loma for £4. where did this first get played? Interesting reading these old lists
  21. Downloads, especially today's modern scene are a legitimate format...paid for and artist gets their money. Northern scene a different matter as they wouldn't be the original format.
  22. As I said if it has been released then I wouldn't play it and I know some DJ's who are more than bit miffed when say a grapevine copy was played when he was on next with an original of a certain record. LTIO has been played from the Soul Series one, looks like the pink Marvin Gaye of Chris Kings only green.
  23. Personally I wouldn't play either of them, the only legit release of LTIO is the one on Kent.
  24. both boots as far as I'm aware. There is only one original of LSH put out by Motown in mid 90's (?) as a promotion at some seminar showcasing a Marvin Gaye cd or something like (?). it was originally played off a cut (carver if you like) as it was sent over here on a cassette originally. Let's Talk It Over taken from a Japanese CD or something like and never issued on a 45. There is another boot of it as well, looks like a 60's UK demo 45.
  25. would you be a guest showcasing your collection? If so then it is your original vinyl only or anything unissued thou might have. If it is just a general radio show playing northern soul then I guess no one will care nor be non the wiser?
