  1. might be better moving all the non sales related posts to the topic in Look at your box?
  2. playing devils advocate, 1999 it was unknown, doesn't mean it didn't exist. Records do turn up even today that were not previously known about. Maybe there are two different presses of this, done at or around the same time but at different plants for financial reasons?
  3. You are talking about the Northern Soul scene, not soul music. Northern Soul embraces many genres of music not just soul. We coined it Northern Soul which we all know isn't necessarily Soulful, some of it simply Pop (doesn't make it Soul), and then to complicate it further we made up a load of other genres, crossover, modern blah blah. I'm not saying Funk isn't soulful, some Pop music is soulful but at the end of the day Soul and Funk are different. Both genres might have the same musicians etc, both genres are played on the NS scene but you can clearly hear the difference IMO the music we love is simply Rhythm and Blues, this encompasses all the sub genres that come from it, Soul, Funk, Disco etc IMO. Today we have Urban, House, Hip Hop etc under the Contemporary Rhythm & Blues umbrella and Mobo's (Music of black origin). pretty good description at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhythm_and_blues
  4. when was that then
  5. scans of one sold through Soul Source a while back.....
  6. as this subject is again "hot" on the board I'll bring this old one back to the top.....
  7. Posting the evidence would mean some admitting they paid over the odds (way over the odds in some cases) for a re-issue Seb
  8. I've read several comments where they say it's all Soul Music, it isn't, Funk isn't Soul and Soul isn't Funk. They might be part of a more all encompassing genre but they are not the same, there is musical differences. Might be same musicians, technicians, engineers etc but they are different.
  9. It's actually ToNNy. Andy Mac also had a copy for years. It is the same guy if you ask me.
  10. definition of Funk from wikipedia.......
  11. It wasn't a nighter perspective that you gave but your opinion and what crossover does at an all-nighter not what it is. Like you I want to hear dancers when I go out, I don't what to hear funeral music but I don't mind and want a change in tempo otherwise the music simply blurs into the next record and simply becomes a noise. Neither do I constantly tell people what should and shouldn't be played and I only give my preferences in context of the topic, not every opportunity. I also agree with you too much crossover isn't what an all-nighter wants or needs, wrong tempo by and large but that wasn't the question. Like I said it is a question of balance. Right back on topic you uptempo terrorist, give us some examples (for the sake of the topic) of crossover you love to listen to in your lounge overlooking the koi carp lake whilst sipping a well chilled Soave.
  12. The topic didn't ask for a nighter view of crossover, or more specifically your view, it asked what crossover is and to be honest we all know what your view is when it comes to what should be played at all-nighters so there is no need to keep reminding everyone at every opportunity. It's a question of balance, one tempo all night of anything isn't good. Most folk want dancers be that uptempo, midtempo or whatever tempo, they don't care as long as it is danceable.
  13. copy and paste in to a text file then copy and paste on here.

  16. You'd think this would be one everyone knew Mark. Nice white demo btw
  17. Cheers pal, if I've still got it i'll try and scan the article.
  18. I basically agree but still think there is a place on today's scene for records like this. Crying shame when too many prefer to listen and discuss some of the retro crap that is released these days and some of the second rate funky stuff and records such as this are ignored.
  19. That wasn't my point and think you know it, just saying that not everyone is long standing members like us. Not everyone uses the search facility either. Anyway back on topic , does anyone know which issue of Voices the article mentioned earlier is in?
  20. I remember playing this out a couple of years ago, didn't exactly clear the floor but didn't go down too well
  21. Do you not mean post three Tony? If so then that's two of you for specsavers
  22. nobody forces you, with your arm up your back to read these topics Brett. Not everyone has been on this site since the first crossover topic was discussed or indeed as it would appear the last one. I posted links to previous topics but you replied a couple of times since therefore keeping the topic alive.
  23. All good stuff Ratso, some great info about how things were back then Look forward to the website
