Take Deep Breath..ha
what if they do Paul, does everyone have to agree with you. have you seen it? It is all you seem to do on here lately, slag a play or film off and woe behold anyone who doesn't agree with you! Personally I don't have an opinion about this as I haven't seen it, doubt I ever will and really couldn't care less. It won't have any effect on what I do.

Site: Off Topic Posts
Most should have read now that there has been some changes to the way the site is moderated. As you will have read I have assumed overall responsibility for the main soul forums, that is All About The Soul, Look At Your Box,, Yesterdays etc. With the changes that have taken place we feel it is now the time to act upon the ever growing quantity of off-topic posts, often by the same few people. These Soul Forums are the focal point of the site attracting people from all over the world with a vast amount of knowledge, a knowledge that most would like to expand. It is felt that the site is being and indeed has been dumbed down to such an extent that people have either stopped using Soul Source or are now simply occasional visitors contributing little or nothing at all. Many knowledgeable members are no longer seen and the off topic and mundane yes/no and list type topics are one of the main reasons. The loss of membership affects the site in several ways which we won't go into. This is fact, with PM's from just yesterday complaining about off-topic and the mundane yes/no topics. Now we have no wish to be a hard line dictator type moderation team, we like a laugh as much as the next person. We want this to be fun but also a place to learn about and discuss soul music and the Rare Soul Scene or whatever other name you wish to apply to it. This has been a concern for some time now, with action taken against some members and a few topics lately where this has come to the surface but still some don't learn. BUT the majority of off-topic has to and will stop. The odd bit of light relief is fine, nothing wrong with a bit of banter but some members feel the need to constantly chip in with off-topic posts and throw away comments and mundane jokes. So please take notice of what is being said, by all means have a laugh but keep everything in context. We know who the main culprits are and they have two options, toe the line or they will be excluded. This is however aimed at everyone and we simply ask your cooperation and help.

You Didn't Say A Word
Wouldn't be so bad Webby if you'd asked some soul related question about the record, not that you simply didn't like it. The question has simply led to too many off topic posts.

Larry ? Vocal To Sidras Theme
Not sure what other in formation you want Danny, that you have a genuine 60's Virtue acetate? Well I know you could buy Virtue blanks so maybe that is what was used to cut the Larry Hammond. It is pretty easy to print a Virtue or any other label for that matter. But the track as a few of us have said was recorded ten years or thereabouts ago. I did have the full story in an e-mail from Dave Burton but it got lost with PC crashes etc. Read the other topics, there is a few if memory serves me correctly.

Value Request
The last Wes Oliver on eBay went for around $250, I was just beaten to it.

Larry ? Vocal To Sidras Theme
Dunno why it was covered as it was known from the off virtually who it was. As I mentioned earlier it would be around about ten years ago, maybe bit longer when Dave did it. I remember playing it from a cd at an early Prestatyn. When you say your copy is that cd, mp3, vinyl? Is it a boot? Was never released was it not?

Larry ? Vocal To Sidras Theme
the telephone is in the Whenever I'm without you track or whatever it is called.

Help Needed Please
I suppose they were right really, this is a home made recording and not an original 60's recording on an original label. Anyone playing it has done a carver from Dave's recording, or someone has done a carver and sold it on. Dunno where he got the 2 known copies from, anyone can do one really and obviously has done.
-
Larry ? Vocal To Sidras Theme
I had a letter/e-mail from Dave telling me the full story but it's got lost over time. Got all the tracks not long after Dave did them. The other Larry Hammond is Whenever I'm Without You? Search Larry in refosoul as I put it there. The other is a female take of the Dottie and Mille track or one of the femme Topper recordings. Dave Rivers if he reads this will tell you more.

Dj's Playing For Themselves
In the wider context of Djing Ian, on this scene, it is simply the tried and tested, very little imagination and the so called big hitters playing records that have been broken by others over more often than not a few years, often getting more recognition for the record than the DJ who put it where it is. Most follow rather than attempt to set the trends. These days you see DJ's getting more compliments for their enthusiasm than for their records IMO it is a mirror image of years ago with the same records still being played rather than DJ's attempting to program new or forgotten records. Said it before every promoter should encourage/ask their DJ's to program 20/25 % semi or unknown, forgotten tracks. Four or five out of say 25, one every four or five records isn't too much to ask is it?

Help Needed Please
MP3's are not allowed on here but the track is in refosoul larry hammond - sad sad day - It was never issued, it was only recorded about ten years ago in Dave Burton's flat in Hong Kong, 4 tracks I think in totally. Another Larry Hammond, a version of Eligah Rockin' With Soul (I think) and a female take on Dottie and Millie or something like that. Anyone playing it either has a vinyl carver or Grant mentioned a boot?
-
Larry ? Vocal To Sidras Theme
got booted more like, it's only been around 10 years or so, recorded in Dave Burton's flat in somewhere like Hong Kong.

Dj's Playing For Themselves
Is it Carms, I didn't think you did all-nighters? And soul nights are not the place to break records, not the vast majority of them anyway. There is little or practically no tolerance from the large majority of soul night atttendees these days with regard to anything new. There is just no way you can plug away with a record at a soul night that constantly clears the floor and get away with it. All-nighters maybe a little different but by and large most who attend want familiarity. I go to places that push different stuff, new stuff, semi-knowns and the dancers are too quick to sit down, soon as the 100 mile an hour traditional northern soul stomper comes on up they get. A record to stand any chance has to either be in the hands of half a dozen or so DJ's, played week in week out all over the country or exceptional (which are few and far between these days). The good new discoveries are few and far between and often in the hands of one or two DJ's only, who just don't get heard enough. How often do you see Butch somewhere every week? Some of the stuff at Lifeline has taken years to get widely accepted with some of them now trickling down to the wider scene.
