Gotta agree Joan it is terrible and cannot see the appeal personally. Perhaps covering it up glams it up a bit and makes it more acceptable cause I doubt it would ever get a second look otherwise.
  2. there's an alternative studio take complete with 1,2,3 intro etc on here in refosoul that I posted some time ago. Someone said it might be the take used on the cd release, I've not compared 'em so couldn't tell you to be honest.
  3. Kenny's, Tim's, a third copy?.....everything will come out in the wash as we say up 'ere Ian
  4. Frank Wilson didn't just consider himself a writer, he was a singer as well and recorded on other labels under different names too (Sonny Daye). It was Berry Gordy who persuaded him his future was in writing and not recording.
  5. It was Kenny that John approached about selling/auctioning the FW, that is what Kenny said last week and I said as much early on and it didn't really take any working out really did it. Kenny did say he didn't want to sell and it would take a suicidal bid to prize it from him and if auctioned would have a suicidal reserve. JM's book price is £25k is it not. There is no 3rd copy as far as I know and the copy referred to as being for auction is Kenny's as far as I am aware but it will have a (in Kenny's words) a suicidal reserve. My guess is it will be auctioned with the mammoth reserve and if it doesn't sell then Kenny will not be bothered one bit. Why would John come and put to bed all the rumours, he's getting plenty of great free advertising
  6. Been two or three on ebay, cheaper than $676 as well. Andy Dyson probably responsible for it's reactivation....not sure but think Andy sold it to Mick H as well? Know he had a spare or two a while back.....long gone tho now!
  7. To make money, it was business at the end of the day and if something is popular cash in on it.
  8. I agree Chris. IMO they are just album fillers, short of summat better at the time to fill the lp
  9. I agree with you Steve. There was a rumour that a west coast Dj had copy of FW, first heard that one back in the 80's. Plenty of myths/hysteria/hype surrounding this record and many other records on the scene. If they were fact I think with the price the record commands many of the mythical ones would have surfaced by now

You're right of course about it being brill double sider. Does seem a tough one to find these days. Another Hesitations to look out for is No Brags Just Facts on GWP Think I've posted it in refosoul.

I would have thought you were allowed ten if your top ten doesn't change

Tommy Ridgely (My Love Gets Stronger) definitely always there, Tommy & Derbys & the Mello Souls probably always in my top ten too.

Fantastic Four used to be a cheapie but it now sells for £40 plus. £50/£60 in the latest JM guide. Fantastic record
  17. I thought Ron Murphy said he got his copy from an employee of ARP in Detroit? I'll have to read again....
  18. Actually Kenny's copy came from Martin Koppell (via Tim Brown) who got it from Ron Murphy. Tim has the original SS copy.

Better version as well, always been one of my faves.
  20. He must have made the offer to both of them.

I've seen plenty of records without a mark on them, absolutely flawless and unplayed so I would consider them mint
  22. Kenny doesn't have to sell for financial reasons and its already been said that if he was to sell it it would take more than £25k to prize it off him.
  23. Ron Murphy apparently placed an advert in the local press seeking former workers of the pressing plant that did the FW. One came forward with a copy. Sure Ron said 6 were pressed and ordered to be destroyed. Obviously not all were destroyed so who's to say the rest are not out there somewhere
  24. Yes it is an urban myth, he offered Kenny $50,000 for it Was with Kenny last night and he said he wasn't selling FW but had been approached especially with this being the 50th Anniversary of Motown and all the attention it is getting. Kenny also said that if he was selling it, it would take a ridiculous sum to prize it from him, at least the book valuation of JM of £25,000 PS Just read Sepia's post

Whatever anyone thinks about Joe Jama is irrelevant really, it still packs the dance floor every time and it is good northern soul. It's the opinion of the dancers that matter not a bunch of key board warriors
