Not sure but don't think the Upset ever got released, just a few got out maybe by mistake, there's no label number or anything on the label. Only know of a couple of copies and a mate of mine has both of 'em. T'other side is excellent as well

What This Worth
Tough one Dave, not seen many copies of this. Last one was on e-bay that I saw and the price it fetched I can't remember.

6 X6 Was There A Legitimate Vocal
It never got as far as just being recorded at the guy's audition for Motown as far as I'm aware, studio test pressing only. Never pressed other than that not even for filing purposes, thats probably why the above you mention haven't picked up on it. It is genuine and not the thing that was suppoosed to be for Musicor or that terrible 70's job that is knocking about. It really is bad and Berry Gordy probably couldn't get the guy out of the studio's quick enough and then destroy all traces of the attempt at a vocal As for not hearing it, John has played the thing at the 100 Club. Trust me Tone, stay on the unbelieving side, you DON'T want to hear it

John Manships Auction
I saw one for sale for less than £500 after the first one John auctioned. It was only VG+ I think condition wise but condition doesn't seem to affect prices on other auctions such as e-bay where mint prices are paid for wornm copies. If you look back in topics the general consensus at the time John auctioned the first one was that it was a £300 record, not just on ehere but other forums and chat groups as well. Even John's second guide, which was the current guide at the time lists it at £200, Tim listed it at £300. Now because of one (what many considered a silly price) auction price of £1100, that is now the going rate. And there's been several about for sale since. I still don't think it's worth over a £1000

John Manships Auction
I would say a couple of dozen serious collectors willing to shell out top $. I'd agree with your second comment that there are less than a 1000 records worth a £1000. Lots of those fetching a grand and over are over priced IMHO.
-
John Manships Auction
I wouldn't have thought the number was no where near a 1000 who would pay serious $'s for a record Always seems to be the same few dozen who pay the money Some of the top dj's who pay big bucks sell to buy in some cases as some of those can't really afford the cash thats asked these days.

Oldies Soundbyte Quiz
8. Billy Hambric - She Said Goodbye. HB Barnum gives you the title

John Manships Auction
but the Ringleaders does come up for sale, practically every week some place or other. It's well documented John Anderson had a massive hit with this title, it was also a hit locally around Chicago with 1000's sold so why still around £400 when £50 IMO would be nearer the mark

I've Paid Over The Top And I Admit It
with most collectors and dealers the prices come with experience and the knowledge you gain because of it, alos keeping an eye on what gets sold at venues, by lists and auction etc. Others it's simply a case of referring to a guide Price can be subjective as well as we've seen with some prices reached on auctions net
-
I've Paid Over The Top And I Admit It
What's the difference in price between the dealers on the records you mention above? There shouldn't really be that much of a difference??? Top price paid at auction doesn't neccesarily give a true reflection of the discs worth just the price it's worth to one individual. Price is often driven higher by two individuals (very rarely do you see several) getting involved in a bidding war. If the individuals have a certain amount of spare cash and a top want is there to be bid on then they will go for it more often than not regardless whether or not the record is worth what the are paying. how often is it discussed on here how daft some bugger is for paying "silly x" amount for a record? All the time!! Often an over inflated price paid on an auction has a knock on effect and the next copy for sale is then deemed to be worth the last price paid on auction, Cashmeres, Bill Bush etc are good examples of this
-
Gail Anderson
I think it's a fantastic tune and ripe for re-activation IMHO. Actually bid on the one on John's auction but then went away with work and missed end of auction. Most copies seen for sale in recent times have been around the £150 mark so someone has got it cheap

Ringleaders....

John Manships Auction
Since 2004 the Cashmeres on ebay was selling for between $835 and as high as $2150 which was a tad ott IMHO, on average the record was selling for around $1500, give or take a bit half what Tim valued it at in his guide, which is after all a guide. That btw is for copies that popsike have picked up on, know there has been more than the copies stated. 50 copies only, I bet there's been almost that up for sale via auctions, lists and sales boxes at venues the past few years, have seen it for sale often enough was also told one seller on e-bay had multiple copies, rumour or fact dunno? as for the understating of values by those who should know better, give us some examples? the so called understatement could after all be just a honest opinion, maybe the last value the one who should know better saw a record sold for?
-
John Manships Auction
you would also think that the more copies that turn up the price would come down but the opposite seems to be the case for some records all it's worth now IMO seems to be one for sale somewhere every week
-
John Manships Auction
I agree with you Pete, in fact I wouldn't pay £500 for it didn't a box load turn up? Tool much money IMHO if willing to pay £1900 for Cashmeres As for e-bay one went for $2000 if I remember rightly. Find it harder to find some £50 records than you do the Cashmeres and others like Bill Bush, another that seemed to be a constant fixture on e-bay etc etc.....
