  1. Lovely condition copy of this double sider from 1972 on Eastbound demo. £300 + P&P. SOLD. I grade this 45 somewhere between VG++ and M- using Soul Source grading, as I can see a couple of very light tiny marks under good light but I can't hear any when played. Thanks, Steve
  2. Latest one through the door this morning so all seems to be good!
  3. Looking for a nice condition copy of Little Ron Johnson - "I keep telling you" if anyone has one to sell or swap? Thanks, Steve.
  4. Not an instant one by any means, but how about Pauline Shivers - Won't you come back home / Silk - Falling in love isn't easy? Can't seem to post any you tube clips for now but there must be literally thousands of records if you extend this to artists who "sampled" original recordings for inspiration. That's certainly what led to me getting hooked on Northern and Rare Soul, trying to find out some of the original records used then just marvel at how good they were. Stating the obvious I know but can't ignore fact that lots of hip hop / R&B (not the old sort!) / modern soul samples 60's / 70's soul and even some quite good recent soul releases such as Big Brooklyn Red sampling Lowrell's "Mellow Mellow Right On" for their recent "Taking it too far" track.
  5. Just the one for now, from 1973..... Carl Hall - What about you (Columbia) demo. Using SS record gradings I grade this: Stereo side VG++ / Mono side strong VG+ but you can't hear the very light surface marks visible on the Mono side. SOLD Very clean labels with no writing or marks. Cheers. Steve
  6. Make that three of us!
  7. One of my fave double-siders here on Romark blue label / silver text (photos below). Ty Karim in absolute stunning vocal form both sides. Towana & The Total Destruction - Wear your natural baby / Help me get that feelin' back again. SOLD I grade as strong VG using SoulSource record gradings Plays strong and clear with some light crackles but no deep scratches and certainly no jumps or skips. Some ring wear to label both sides as per photos. Cheers, Steve
  8. Guess I'm not surprised to see a low number on here starting their Northern love affair this last 10 years or so (me included) but I must admit I didn't expect the number to be quite so low. I know from the nights etc I've been to that this looks to be a fairly true reflection, although I'm sure it's different in the cities and maybe Europe. Seems crazy that so many are missing out, but each to their own I guess and all we can do is spend time with people who show a genuine interest, as a few good souls did with me...and they continue to do so...passing on "the knowledge" and stuff. Thanks for that guys. You know who you are. Steve.
  9. I was pleasantly surprised today when a 45 arrived from the US and amazed to see zero import charges...just the post. It wasn't a particularly cheap one so I wasn't sure what would happen with it to be honest. Does it depend on what the seller scribbles on the parcel in terms of value? If that's the case then thumbs up to this seller as he put something like $4 from what I could make out! It's nice to get the odd domestic delivery but there is something about getting one from the postie with coloured stamps and things hey, knowing it probably hasn't yet travelled over the pond or wherever. Parcels from Japan take some beating In terms of excitement I think and actually make the post cost worth it once in a while, for me anyway! I'm actually now dedicating a record box with lock and key just for my favourite looking parcels I want to keep. Sad!
  10. Thanks for supporting Snooks this last year or so Brian. It's still "work in progress" there, but that's a good thing right?! Here's what I played to open and close the upstairs room. Lots of requests and never good to get abuse when you don't have a certain record that someone wants to dance to, but as one local summed up so well to Len on the night after thinking for a bit...He said: "Hmmmm.... Northern Soul. It's always been a problem"! Opening 45 mins:- Bobby Moore - Give me your love right now (Checker) The Voice Masters - You've hurt me baby (Bamboo) Shirley Karol - My Baby's gone away (Dakar) Harold Hutton - Lucky Boy (Checker) Karen Striblin - We're not too young, to fall in love (Jaber) Spencer Wiggins - I'm at the breaking point (Kent) Four Tees - One more chance (Kent) Freddie Terrell - You had it made (Capitol) The Tom-Emmanuel and Ron Experience - When you lose your groove (Golden Three) Albert Jones - I do love you (Tri-City) Rhonda Davis - Can you remember (Duke) Talmadge Armstrong - Gigi (Spindletop) Luv Co - Things are not the same (Spring) Little Sherman & The Mod Swingers - The price of love (Sagport) The Jaedes - Uh, Uh, what did I do (Athena) TSU Toronadoes - What good am I? (Atlantic) Closing 45 mins:- Epitome of Sound - You don't love me (Sandbag) Darrell Banks - I'm the one who loves you (Volt) Exits - You got to have money (Gemini) Purple Mundi - Stop hurting me baby (Cat) The Innersection - Let me love yuh (Group 5) Four Tops - Don't bring back memories (Motown) Willie Kendrick - Change your ways (RCA) The Volcanos - Help wanted (Arctic) Sandra Phillips - I wish I had known (Okeh) Lorraine Rudolph - Keep coming back for more (Jet Stream) The Dynells - Call on me (Atco) September Jones - I'm with you (Body & Soul) Four Tops - Where did you go (Motown) Bobby Hutton - Come see what's left of me (Philips) Chuck Jackson - What's with this loneliness (Kent) Willie Bollinger - I won't have to cry no more (Kent) Enchanted Five - Darling I need you now (CVS) Willie West - She's so wise (Timmion) Curtis Mayfield - Move on up I think only one of the above cleared the floor for a mo, but gritted my teeth behind a smile and played the record right through just as the Brothers of Soul intended it to be heard when they wrote it. Once again, the funny old world of Northern Soul! Until the next time, Steve.
  11. Not sure if you're buying or selling Don. If buying and want to save a few quid to get this great track with some rather nice deep soul things too, then his LP on Guinness can be picked up for around £50-£100 depending on condition. Very high quality recording it is too. Cheers, Steve.
  12. Recently picked up a new copy of this 12 from a seller in France (JARA Records JA 1) and have just searched to find this thread. Brilliant both sides I think and with no date or anything on the label I wondered if had been reissued recently or something? Any more info on Lenard Lidell in terms of other releases aside from this 12 and the EP? The EP looks a hard one to find but lots of the re-issued version for sale. Cheers, Steve. Off to listen again as its only the Brit awards on telly!
  13. You did Jocko...Here's the link to Refosoul from 2007 but apart from the MP3 sample at the bottom of that page it looks to be a criminal case of no one yet posting on You Tube! /more/soul-library/pic-and-bill-the-soul-of-a-man-blue-rock-7-r41212
  14. Please PM me if interested in any of these. Soul Source record gradings applied to each. You tube clips are not from these actual records. Thanks for looking, Steve PERIGENTS - Love on a rampage / Better keep movin (Maltese). Small "X" on label VG++ £35 LORENZO MANLEY - Swoop down on you (Original Sound). M- £20 PAUL ANKA - I can't help loving you (RCA orange mono). VG+ £15 JOAN MOODY - We must be doing something right (Sylvia black label white logo styrene) VG++ £15 SOLD THE TYMES - The love that you're looking for (Columbia) VG++ £15 THE BLOSSOMS - That's when the tears start (Reprise) Has some background styrene hiss, but no bad scratches plays clean and strong apart from that. Hence VG and £10!
  15. ...Three more which wouldn't fit on original post: Timothy Wilson - Loving you / Pigtails (Buddah). DH but otherwise strong VG++ £40 Cynthia and the Imaginations - Is there anyone, anywhere / There's something the matter (with your heart). Magic City. Strong VG++ £35 The Rhythm Rascals - Why do you have to go / Girl by my side. (SONIC). Strong VG++ £35 SOLD Thanks for looking, Steve

Please note that sound-clips from You Tube are NOT from these actual 45's. Thanks for looking, Steve. Moses Smith - Keep on strivin' / Come on, let me love you (Cotillion. promo in Co sleeve) - Some very light visible marks which you can't hear when played, but strong VG+. £160. ON HOLD The Monticellos - I can't wait until I see my baby's face / Don't hold back (Red Cap). Couple of small clicks on first few seconds of "I can't wait.." side but still very decent nick. VG+ £100 Rose St.John and the Wonderettes - Mend my broken heart / And if I had my way (United Artists Demo) . Has small initials "K.S" on one side of label. Two great sides on nice looking 45 in orig Co sleeve. Strong VG++ £80 I can't find a sound clip of the "and if I had my way side" (the better of the two IMO) but here's the broken heart side...SOLD Three more to follow.....
  17. Hi...I'm interested in picking up a copy of this Mexican released "Tighten Up" style 45 if anyone has one to move on please? Many thanks, Steve
  18. Just checked my Uk release on Buffalo and it has "the place where sorrow hides" + also credits artist as "Justine". Wonder what happened there!

  22. Anything of interest then please let me know via PM and I'll post today upon payment. Some these were listed a few weeks back and prices dropped even more on some, but also a dozen new ones added! Email photos or more info on request. All VG++ (Soulsource gradings) unless stated. Please add £2.50 for 1st class recorded in the UK or £5 for Special Delivery. Overseas extra. Thanks. Paypal: steve.scotney@sky.com or direct bank transfer. Thanks for looking, Steve Jackey Beavers - Bring me all your heartaches / Don't wanna lose you (Grand Land) - M- £100 SWAPPED Candy and the Kisses - Out in the streets again / Sweet & Lovely (Scepter) - small WOL. £50 SWAPPED Jean Carter - Like One / That boy ain't no good. £175. Harder to find and gorgeous looking black Decca issue in company sleeve. Two great sides. I would grade both label and record as M- visibly but please note it is well documented that the quality of reproduction on the Decca recordings of this classic does suffer from some sound distortion, namely on the "Like One" side, whereas the later issue on MCA does not. That said, still sounds great on a big system IMO and this is probably as cheap as you'll see an issue this year. SOLD Celestrals - Checkerboard Lover / I feel it coming on (Don-El) - £50..Different and underplayed double sider in near M condition. Carolyn Crawford - Forget about me / Devil is in his heart (Motown) - £40 Carolyn Crawford - My smile is just a frown turned upside down / I'll come running (Motown) DH - £40 Cynthia & the Imaginations - Is there anyone, anywhere / There's something the matter (Magic City) - £35..Double sider and great looking label! Ray Frazier - Your Eyes / Good Side (The Carriage Trade) M- £60 Kelly Garrett - Loves the only answer / Knowing when to leave (Smash DJ) - £100. Looks & plays great with no real scratches, BUT does suffer from some styrene burn background hiss, barely noticeable when played LOUD on big system! Hence grade VG+ and LOW price.SOLD Gary Toms Empire - Love me right / same (PIP) - £20 Anne Heywood - Crook his little finger / Everything under the Sun (Hondo, rarer yellow one) M- £170...Surely a tempting price for this great double sider in amazing condition!! SWAPPED Invitations - What's wrong with me baby / Why did my baby turn bad (dyno voice) DH. £100. Stone cold classic. SOLD Joe King - Speak on up / What's wrong (Prix) M- £40 Barbara Lynn - Tring to love two / Sugar coated love" (Ichiban) - £50 Monticellos - I can't wait until I see my baby's face / Don't hold back (Red Cap) - Couple very small clicks at start of "I can't wait..." side, so graded VG+ and priced £100 for two great sides. Tempos - Don't leave me / I need you (Riley's) - £30 Trumains - Ripe for the pickin' / same (RCA demo) - VG+ £125 Joe Valentine - I lost the only love I had / Surely, I'll never do you wrong (VAL original 7225RDS 45-7225-1 DMRS 720603 matrix) - £125..Both sides just great. 23. I've just woken up to see the regrettable impact of my original quite innocent (at least that's what I intended it to be) post. I had no idea that a simple request for info on I record could unfold in this way and I sincerely apologise to you John for the hassle this has caused. I'll contact you separately of course. Locking down now to prevent any other adverse comments as this is not good for anyone in my opinion. Steve.
  24. Sorry Rod / anyone in mods...do I now need to edit title of this post so as not to waste anyone's time looking at it? Or just leave as is for general interest for anyone like me who didn't know this record before just now and might like to know of it? Thanks. Steve
