  3. All very worthy nominations ABOVE. I have thought long and hard about this over the years. Many mainstream music journals (eg Mojo) have, over time, usually nominated Marvin Gaye as the greatest vocalist in not only soul music but every pop genre. Marvin was truly a legend but he usually gets chosen for his influence and song writing etc as well aS his wonderful voice... But I have heard all the major works by all the great soul vocalists (whether they be Northern Soul legends, RnB , Deep Soul or Southern Soulsters etc) and have come to the clear conclusion that absolutely the greatest vocalist ever in SOUL MUSIC , judged purely on vocal ability is/was without a doubt... DAVID RUFFIN
  4. Have an EX copy of Gloria Scott original 45 ....."A Case of Too Much Lovemaking" ....650 UK GBP Some minor scuffs, plays beautifully Remember only ever released on an Aussie Casablanca 45 !!! Must insist on registered post. We'll suss out appropriate payment method in due course. Cheers!

  6. LAROM BAKER IS NOT NEARLY AS AWFUL AS THAT TERRIBLE "CANT NOBODY LOVE ME LIKE YOU DO" THING BY STORM !!!
  7. Really looking forward to the Precisions performing... I vaguely remember reading an interview with maybe Popcorn Wylie or Dale Warren in BlackBeat or some other UK soul zine years ago , when the interviewee said there was only ever one male soul group in Detroit who could foot it with the Temptations but they forgot their name .... did they mean the Precisions ??? Surely the Precisions , with those 5 fantastic 45's for Drew alone, (4 of them reached the soul charts) could well be considered the greatest soul act to never make it ? What do you think ? Is there any really in depth info on the group anywhere on the web ?
  8. And if you all want to further appreciate how wonderful this Mel Britt record is, turn it over and listen to the absolutely beautiful flip side !!!!!!!!
  9. I take it that Sam's work of genius is still yet to be "reissued/re-released" on vinyl or CD (legitimately or otherwise) Can somebody refresh my memory as to exactly why that is so ? Has Sam (or Atlantic) tied the rights up and doesn't want to re release it ? Was that the same situation with Luther (Vandross) and his group's first two LPs for Cotillion ? Thanks in advance !
  10. I still need an original !!! Somebody please sell me one !

  16. Interesting post Dayo, quite a few people both within - and outside of - the Rare Soul Scene have over the years said that guys like Norman Jay and Eddie Piller for example could easily be leading DJs on the Northern/Rare Soul Scene as they have the depth of collections and knowledge to do it. Are guys like Jay and Piller outsiders to northern fans ? Or could they be welcomed in to the scene ? Wonder if anyone on Soul Source listened to what Keb Darge had to say about Norman Jay in Keb's recently posted interview about the Northern Scene .. not very complimentary at all !!!
  17. Completely gut wrenching and emotionally draining !!! Last time I got so emotional was, I think watching a Grammy Awards in the mid 90's, when the Impressions with Jerry Butler wheeled out Curtis Mayfield in his wheel chair ... seeing such great heroes reduced to mere mortals ... always so devastating ...
  18. The discography on the New York label Today Records shows an LP as having been released on this fabulous group. I've never seen it ... does it exist ? Has anyone on Soul Source got it ?
  19. Yep, Dinah Lee's superior version of Bobby Goldsboro's Too Many People. Dinah Lee was a genuine blue eyed femme (Aussie/NZ) soul / r n b singer (better vocal talent than Lynne Randell !) Can you please tell us the four titles of Dinah Lee's UK Aladdin releases, please? Thanks in advance !
  20. I agree, bloody good 70s record from Tommy !
  21. Just heard a bit of the new "comeback" CD from Latin Soul legend Joe Bataan , sounds very tasty... has anyone heard it ??
  22. Absolutely - and unashamedly - love both "Weakspot" and "Doomsday" by Evelyn Thomas. Two fabulous slices of pop soul ! Ruffin's "Hurt The One You Love" was good too, but Ruffin sounded like he was truly suffering and in pain , mustn't have been too long after that he died ..............
