Here is one of those reissue LPs from the early 80s, rarely seen: https://cgi.ebay.com....e=STRK:MEWAX:IT There may possibly be three different LPs comprising their Dore material ...
  3. Is that an "axe" sticking out underneath the record box ??? !!!
  4. Jimmy Ellis was ... and still is one of the greatest soul singers ... ever ! Never really given the dues he deserves, and his contribution was always overshadowed by the fact the Trammps were a relatively large self contained band. Anyone have any info on his career before the Trammps ? The Trammps bios don't have any info on him before joining the group ? Is he the Jimmy Ellis on the Salem 45 ? Incidentally, I wouldn't call the Trammps a "disco" group, rather, they were a "soul" group who foud favour in the discos and with New York disco DJs of the time ...
  5. Nice one Melismo, you have great taste, and that's a quality playlist too !!! Unless anyone else on here makes a comment, it would seem however that this Pat Peterson LP remains relatively unknown ....
  6. Mark, off the top of my head, this must have been released several years prior to 1989, more like 1983/4, around the same time as Walter Jackson's Touching In The Dark, surely?
  7. The Jonah Jones LP contains the fantastic instrumental "Jonah's Ark" ... an absolute dead ringer for Young Holt's California Montage !!! Mark my words, a DJ will latch on to this track one day !!!
  8. Crossover gem from the Queen, never on a 45 in the US, only in the UK on red Atlantic, correct ?
  9. No doubt all the talk on here will do wonders for the final auction price ...
  10. Anyone have any info on the group ? Were they US guys living in the UK ? Or a local Biddu studio concoction with sessioners ? Did the record get a US release ?
  11. Like most people, I love The Case of Tyme's "Manifesto" but have always liked even more the flip-side "Some Call It Love" a brilliant up tempo tune just begging for plays .
  12. So, is the Tony Fox "Let Love and Be Loved" alleged 45 also a myth ?
  13. Yep, shame on me Sean my mind was wandering ... am particularly interested to know if "All My Lovin" off the LP appeared in 7" form .
  14. Need a precise listing please of sides released on 7" ( both US AND UK ) off his classic 70's LP on ABC.
  15. Can anyone enlighten us as to whether Frankie Beverley is actually aware of the huge interest on the northern soul scene in his sixties soul sides and, if so, has any promoter attempted to secure his services to perform a gig concentrating on that sixties material (noting of course that with Maze he remains a "contemporary" artist)???
  16. Uh oh ... here we go again ... https://cgi.ebay.com/...=item439d1504e2 Seller says it's an original however the arranger's name is clearly shown underneath the artist's name. Interesting though that the seller supports his assertion that it is an original by making specific reference to the deadwax markings , something which none of the previous threads on Soul Source to my knowledge have ever mentioned.
  17. Must say I'm a little gobsmacked that when I posted the two names JR Bailey and Donny Hathaway at the beginning of this thread I thought almost everybody on Soul Source would know which "Love Love Love' was in question ... (not Bobby's Hebb's completely different song/record !!! ) Oh well ....
  18. Yeah you're right Jocko, it's such an awful record that one could quite easily think that a real live wombat actually was responsible for the record ...
  19. Any of you lot in the UK know what a wombat looks like ? We have 'em crawling all over the city streets here Down Under, they look like this: https://www.bing.com/...ombat&FORM=IGRE#
  20. Which version do you prefer ? JR Bailey or Donny Hathaway ?
  21. Is it true that Pete Smith has over the years had more than 120 perfectly nice clean copies of the Carstairs on Red Coach but deliberately smashed every one of them into tiny little pieces ... ?
  22. Anyone rate this modern soul LP from the one time Raelette on a label - Enja - that is better known for pure jazz releases ???
  23. There is an episode of the popular early 70's US TV drama Police Story where Rufus Thomas features in his favoured "hot pants" outfit of that era doing a whole number in a club !!!! Episode was about a young black kid on drugs ....
  24. Tony, Mary Love's track from the film was in fact recorded and included on the Dolemite LP soundtrack, a fact omitted from virtually every Mary Love discography I have seen.
  25. Hopefully the Stax experts ( Rob Bowman perhaps ? ) can come on here and advise us of the true position, but I always surmised that those Stax LPs from the late 7Ts and early 8Ts on Randy Brown, the Staples and the Emotions (of previously unreleased material) were in fact finished tracks from the mid seventies which were ... let's say ... "surgically enhanced" with modern production devices to make them sound "of their time", not re-recorded or newly recorded rhythm tracks.
