  1. Roosevelt Grier also did a good version on ABC-Dunhill , is that the one you're on about Ken ? Also I'm sure the Dynamics did a version on Cotillion , and there's probably others too . This deserves a separate thread !!!
  2. Masqueraders is nice but the best version is by the Gentlemen Four on Sonday !
  3. Gasher, if it turns up in quantity , why will you "start to worry" ? I'm just curious as to the reason for buying the record in the first place , for the music , or because it's rare and then to sell on later ?
  4. Are any of you wondering if those morons at Sony have stumbled on to this website and this thread and realise what a veritable f-kcing goldmine they have sitting right under their noses ? I mean, how many years did it take the execs at Motown (US, not the UK rights holders) to cotton on to the fact that there was a huge hunger all around the world for the rare and not so obvious tunes ? I take it Sony have the rights to all the PIR and related labels, yes ? Or do Gamble & Huff own the stuff ?
  5. Keith, 12,000 miles away mate on the arse end of the world !!! 10 hours ahead of you !!!
  6. Not exactly Sammy Ambrose , is it !!! But Gary and the boys actually do a decent version and this was a hit for them after all ... Sammy's version went nowt ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZuH6br9PNsU
  7. In light of the thread on great Philly tunes, probably a good time to post some visuals of one of the most inspirational records of all time from Gene McFadden & John Whitehead ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZOLkMe7fVQ
  8. The Soul Train performance of this was posted last year but this is David Ruffin on American Bandstand. Never tire of watching and hearing this ... one of the greatest soul tunes ever from the greatest ever soul singer (IMHO!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wzGaUeIZ30

Rowley, the Belgian Popcorn scene, and the Beach Music scene in the Carolinas (US), have never claimed to be exclusively soul or RnB movements. They simply play the music that they like to hear , a lot of which does happen to be soul or RnB, but you're right, there's also a hell of a lot of very twee pop rubbish played . Of course the northern scene has suffered the pop curse at various times but remains overwhelmingly a "soul" scene.
  10. 41. BEL-AIRS - I GOT THE FEELING (Palmer) Bit of a powerhouse dancer but the lyrics could have been written by a 5 year old. I bet some cnt has paid £200 For this cos it's on Palmer. (1) ................................................................ Yes I pretty much agree on everything Pete ... and it should also be said that you certainly have a way with words !!!!!!!!!
  11. Anyone know another 6T's version of I'm Gonna Run Away From You by a UK girly simply known as Antoinette on Pye I believe ? I have it amazingly on an Australian Astor 7"
  12. Thanks for that Simon. Great tune IMHO although I suspect it seems some are negative towards it because it was played by said Mr Levine .
  13. Can someone kindly post a sound clip of this tune please ? Thanks in advance !!!

Glad you raised this because, of the available information over the years concerning the alleged common link between the Volcanos / Moods / Trammps , NONE of the sources precisely identify the actual personnel movement between the groups and no one has ever offered some sort of family tree . I think the link was first mentioned in Tony Cumming's landmark book "The Sound of Philadelphia" (1974) . Dave Rimmer's web site sadly carries no info on the Volcanos. I'm beginning to think that the link consists of nothing more than the legendary Philly session musos Ronnie Baker Norman Harris & Earl Young who played on so many sessions in the city from the mid 60's right through to the late 70's. Gene Faith was the Volcanos lead but the lead on the Moods sounds nothing like him and Gene certainly didn't go on to become one of the Trammps. Perhaps one of those US published Doo Wop / RnB vocal group books carries some info ? Anyone ?
  15. On this topic , I have only two words to say, and they are ... DAVID RUFFIN !!!
  16. Bizarre but great psychedelic colour clip of Georgie Fame from 1969 with his super version of this RnB classic ! Judging from the expression on his face, Georgie's either totally embarassed at his clobber or thinking of having a drink with all the female go go dancers aafter the show !!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYbyunrkVC0
  17. Well before my time, but they tell me this was a Blackpool Mecca new release spin, right ? Whatever , great footage from the girls on Dutch Top of the Pops !!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BW-a4rftEKs

Think Ady Pountain should be back on the scene and DJ-ing regularly rather than just making the very rare appearance now and then !!!
