  1. What a great thread and only 1 disco-dissing reply so far! I'll be honest - I really believe that the 12 inch single was one of the great inventions of the 20th Century and some superlative examples of soulful dance/disco sounds are - Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes - Bad Luck - Tom Moulton remix Philly 12 1976 Persuaders - Trying To Love 2 Women - Calla 12, 1976 Moment of Truth - So Much For Love - Salsoul 12, 1976 Ecstasy Passion and Pain - Touch and Go - Roulette 12, 1976/ Cheers Steve.
  2. I know its said above but this thread really does highlight the northern scene's obsession with rarity over quality. Who cares if some Philly releases were played in seventies youth clubs? Who cares if some of their releases were popular in the discos of the time? Does it really matter? Gamble and Huff, in my opinion at least, pulled off the rare trick of producing a sound that was commercially successful AND credibly soulful - the two don't have to be mutually exclusive. If you enjoy seventies soul and you're not hung up on rarity or any of that cobblers, then there are loads of great sounds waiting for you on the Philadelphia International label/s. Its probably best that the northern scene ignores this sound anyway, look what happened to the price of Party Time Man once it was 'discovered'.Do you really want that to happen to Bad Luck or The More I Get?! Cheers Steve.
  3. That would be none! More to the point, how many 'new 6ts discoveries' does a northern room play these days? Not many I bet. Steve.
  4. Hi, Can anyone post a soundfile of the Ronnie Loveman Stokes? Cheers and many thanks Steve.
  5. Hi, Bought a UK Mercury 7 from Gemm. Very nice but my copy is virtuyally all instrumental. Is there a vocal version all the way through? Cheers Steve
  6. Hi all, How about - Rideout - Someone Special Ray Munnings - It Could Happen to You Charles Earland - Drifting. 3 that really should be on 12s - Main Ingredient - Evening of Love Khemistry - Can You Feel My Love Delegation - One More Step To Take. Cheers Steve
  7. Look on ebay 'Buy Now' under Jocelyn Brown - I got mine for $5 - it can't be the only one! As stated above, a fantastic sound. Happy hunting Steve.

  11. By sheer coincidence, I have my copy of this in front of me (including a press release!). This is a 7 that came out on UK Contact only (I,m pretty sure) - a 1979 release. Contact seems to be part of RK Records. According to the press release, 'Diane Ducane is 24 years old, was born in Kingston, Jamaica and now lives in London. She spent most of her childhood in New York and in the early seventies formed her own funk/soul band. She did quite a lot of session work and backed such luminaries as the Detroit Spinners'. So there you go. I think its an excellent release, certainly nothing to be embarrassed about! Cheers Steve.

Hi all, Anyone remember this one? April or May 1984, I attended what must have been the countries first modern all niter at the Stafford Top of the World. There wasn't that many people there and it was held in the smaller room at the top. My memories are vague but I do remember this - Terri Wells - I'll Be Around was played at least 3 times Richard Searling and Soul Sam were 2 of the DJs I caught the train up from Chippenham and travelled back part of the way with a guy called Soulful Frank (not his ral name and from Southampton I think) I also remember it being a pretty good night - anyone else there who could fill in the gaps. What else was played? Who else was on the bill? Cheers Steve.

Seriously, its not the Modulations or the other Moment of Truth 45. Excellent as they both are, I've got them both! This is definitely a Moment of Truth single from 1979 - thats all I know apart from the fact that its excellent!

Hi there, Anyone got a copy of the Moment of Truth - I'm Hopelessly In Love With You - 1979, I think. Definitely not on the Salsoul album. Probably not a big money item but let me know if you want to let one go, so to speak! Cheers Steve.
  18. I've always felt that Salsoul is unfairly derided by the soul fraternity, as though its association with the term 'disco' is enough to deserve contempt. Look a bit closer though - there's loads of well-produced, well-sung material on the label. Try this lot - Love Committe Loleatta Holloway Moment of Truth True Example First Choice Skip Mahoney (both sides, not just Janice) Double Exposure Eddie Holman So there you go - open your ears and forget your prejudices! Cheers Steve.

  23. Anyone know an earlier Melba Moore Buddah side - The Way You Make Me Feel, Van McCoy production and a 1976 45? What an excellent tune! Must agree though the 12 of Standing Right Here is THE version for the boogie crowd but I can see the shorter 7 gaining approval on the modern floors.
  24. Hi, The copy is mint (although seal is broken) and for 50 GBP its yours! Steve. PM me for payment details (paypal preferred).
