Only the short sighted 'Northern only' crowd Bob, the rare soul scene appreciates the digging and discovering of all great styles, funk, soul, gospel, crossover, etc etc. As a rare soul fan/collector it all merges together at some point, The 'main stream Northern oldies culture' will always be a bit slow on taking on new records, always has done and always will!...

You have to remember Dave that Pete is not what most of us would describe as a rare soul fan, so the points that you are making are second nature to most of us and the genres you describe are mostly accepted in shape or form on the current 'scene'.

My first visit was '82, sure it was a 1.a.m start, used to get the last train to London at about 11.30 from High Wycombe. I seem to remember getting some nosh just across the road around 7a.m.ish, a little snack bar, croissants or something like it!?. Mucky Dee's came a couple of years later when a coffee was needed!
