He was speaking a lot of truth and it still applies in a lot of ways. He was proved right by the amount of incredible stuff Stafford turned up and the great stuff that has turned up since and still surfaces now. Love the passion of his statement! He was no fence sitter.

Yes, true, Elaine has NEVER said its the definitive story of Northern Soul. Thats the work of critics, publicists and Chinese Whispers. Its definitely about the characters (Northern Souls) as well as the scene, as you can't have a good film or play without them. Its also a socio-historic snapshot of a time I certainly remember, seen through the character eyes/perspectives.

There can never be a definitive film about Northern Soul, as its definition varies for many different people. I would also disagree about Wigan being the centre of everything....thats one opinion and many others would argue and say the whole scene was alive at that time and name venues that illustrated that. The same with soundtracks ....everyone has there own etc. But not everyone has the soul, love and passion to sacrifice a large part of their life to express, in film, their version of events, which again, cannot be argued with, as its their version and built on a their experience. I urge everyone who thinks they can do it, to go and try to do something as epic and then you will really, really see, what soul means. I did a play, Elaine did a film. The question to ask yourself is what are you going to do? Talk is cheap as we all know, but making an embodied experience and memory into a a tangible expression to share with others is an incredible achievement and takes a big heart and soul.

It had nothing to do with Kung Fu. More to do with kids replicating teddy boy backdrops and copying travelling soul artists and invention.
