  1. Ah well there you go, I do modern too! There are clubs that KR never goes to, where he wouldn't know a thing, BUT people on the scene are dancing and appreciating the stuff played there...Burnley, Greatstone, Three Greyhounds, DDA, Wilton and many more. Kev, 'the soothsayer', predictor of 'ALL THAT IS SOUL', 'the great confirmer', hasn't got a Fu--ing clue what goes on...So, its a bit cheeky and reflective of his ego, that he feels he doesn't have to do research when publishing a book that proclaims such a title! Its TOTAL Rubbish!

  3. Time doesn't equal respect as far as im concerned Pete. He's obviously forgotten ALL THE GOOD STUFF.!! The guy exists in his own little (or you might call it BIG) world....He in NO WAY, represents the 'scene'. Tell me how many events you see him at, that are not in some way to do with him? At least I manage to go to most events at some point, so i have some idea of whats going on! For someone to be pretentious enough and arrogant enough to publish the top 500 (twice) ,without ever going out and listening or looking, is I feel, a load of Bo--ocks!

  6. 'new' book there to browse and sold by shed loads when those looking realised its a substantial re write to reflect todays scene . I find that hard to believe, when KR isn't on any scene , apart from the ONE he promotes at his nostalgic events. I certaily haven't seen him out and about? Attending events as a punter? This MUST surely be "THE TOP 500 at KEV ROBERTS NIGHTS"? Because his limited knowledge doesn't extend beyond that....or he's hiding it well!
  7. NOT ACCEPTABLE, for me...I want to hear the vinyl...I cant believe people cant tell the difference!! Records weren't made to be protected from play..Enjoy it today, you might not be around tomorrow. Its a visceral medium...Also, how do i know you own the original copy?! Ha!
  8. So just to make it clear - I LOVE vinyl. However I love music more. Vinyl is a brilliant format but that's really all it is. Ian D ...then I guess we have a totally different concept of the importance of 'brilliant' and 'love'. The wear in vinyl, the marks, the sound, catalogues a history that goes beyond just the piece of music....its a tactile memory...an audible history. If you speak to people who collect and play it with love and passion, they can usually tell you stories, trials or tribulations associated with each record. Ive never really encountered the same passion when being shown around someones cd collection....its usually DEVOID of any love or care! When I see and hear a dj, a good one, I can feel the respect and care they have for the music they are playing, coming through the vinyl and their attitude towards it. His/her pride or joy at actually playing and sharing something that they may have been looking for, for a very long time! You dont really get that from some lack lustre, chair bound, lazy, charlatan, downloading onto his laptop and pressing play at the event. I love hearing records crackle or jump now and again at night's...that way , I know its live and visceral! The Dj is still there, not at the bar with his ipod on shuffle!
  9. Just tell Ady i said it was ok Tell him I gave you the go ahead aswell!
  10. LITTLE MELVIN...what a class tune!! B side of Voicemaster demo is a cracking track...different to issue " Dance right into my heart" top!!

  12. TRUE Mark. Its not the rare vinyl being played thats the danger...its the generally Sh..te sound systems and decks that seem to be a fixture on the scene....that ruin the records. HEY, maybe we just need promoters to get up to date with their equipment!? If the vinyl wears out, you shouldn't have played it week in , week out for years on end!HA!
  13. NICE...I like it! And NORTHERN STYLE?! I saw the Blackpool competition footage and quite frankly, I find it very difficult to put into words!
  14. You only need £100k if you have no ears, feet and imagination. People are open to 'GOOD' music, whatever the price. The 'Big Tune' dj's seem to give up trying a lot of the time and end up actually 'killing' the tune itself, through repeated sets! Never trust a dj who doesn't have some cheap tunes in his box! Cheap doesn't equal crap. It just means the dealers haven't yet got on to hyping them up for a ready made 'Big Tune' market. I can't really believe this discussion is going on....the scene is about vinyl, I dont want to pay a tenner to hear some lazy 'soul less' twat playing from a lap top or an mp3. Its the soul and efforts of those dj's that search out, almost on a daily basis, new and forgoptten tunes, that makes their set, one of passion and integrity. Not the same deal as some passive lumpen knob head, loading up his laptop over a mug of tea! Just my opinion, of course. 'The world's gone mad'!
  15. Maybe dj's should start dancing then?! HA! Also, being able to dance to uptempo doesn't make a good dancer...being able to move your feet to the beat that moves your soul does! whatever the tempo. When some people can only hear 4/4 in a beat, others can hear 8/4 etc. Lets not limit other people by our own interpretations. I dont mind listening to good 'soul' music, whatever the genre, as long as its not the continuously repeated 30 or 40 tunes you generally get at oldies events. I love oldies, but there are f..cking thousands of them to choose from, not just the so called TOP 500! And who publishes that drivel? I dont see them out and about at events, listening , looking and dancing! Exactly...
  16. Very true, they do seem to be describing an oldies utopia...But there have been many, many and many more, utter sh...te tunes, played on the scene throughout its entire history!! far greater crimes than a few funk tracks...why single funk out...Sh..te is Sh..te surely, whatever the genre?!! A lot of 'rose tinted glasses' being worn for this debate i think!
  17. Sam, I told you about DDA when I was in OZ! Last person who had a copy for sale was Mickey Cruz a couple of months ago!
  18. OH MY GOD. Can I just point out that this is NOTHING to do with the URBAN EXPANSIONS version of 'Once Upon A Time In Wigan' that I devised with Mick and toured for two years. This looks like a fookin MUSICAL with a band playing the soundtrack, actors singing and not using original film footage of wigan etc. Mick has obviously granted them the right to use the script! Mark Babych, whilst a nice bloke, knows nothing about the scene (thats why he has a live band! First mistake!). Breaks my heart to see them F---k up something so badly.....A fookin musical. I had a few West End investors try to get me to make it into a musical and had to point out that the scene is ALL ABOUT a VINYL OBSESSION. Thats how me and Mick fell out...he didn't care about it! Only himself. Its like a bloody PANTO! Mick is not from the scene and is obviously easily bought...he should of refused the rights! WHAT A SELL OUT!! Boycott the thing! PAUL-S
  19. ...Good luck Goldie..two copies at DDA! I wont part with mine and I know Joan wont..quality soul.x
