  1. Soul music has to be soulful, otherwise it is just Black Music. If it is soulful, it's probably got that special something that someone, somewhere will like. The Parliaments is heavily Doo Wop influenced RnB but brilliant because of this. To the Northern Novice unaccustomed to an immense range of quirky tunes, the record may appear unfinished. Whatever the story, it's a great dancer, a treat to listen to and a fine contrast to the up-tempo Motown-like tracks that hooked us when we were starting out.
  2. A stunning tune. Not one for Northern Novices. Like a fine wine, one to be contemplated then savoured. Real gritty records of this rarity are few and far between. Sets the floor alight on the rare occasions it's spun in public. Looks as though it will fetch a tidy sum.
  3. I saw Mike's for sale a little while back and then another issue for sale more recently although it may have been the same copy being sold on QED. I have two issue copies and the white demo. I picked up the two issues at the same time in Beaumont, Texas about ten years ago. One is in the sales box if anyone's interested...

    PM'd you re Jerry Ganey.
  5. PM'd you re Bobby Paris.
  6. Another bidder enters the fray. Who will withdraw their bid first? This would be comical if it wasn't so tragic. The tune is played out, clapped out and dwarfed by so many other really good sounds it should just be left in the box with Bettye Swann, Nolan Porter, Marvin Gaye etc.
  7. Looks shattered and unplayable. No one in their right mind would buy this. Might look OK sleeved in a picture frame so £20 tops...
  8. Sold for £1,483.52. In really nice shape too.
  9. PM'd you re Joe Tex.
  10. With you on that - tooooo much on drugs and no scans of record labels. Last book I bought also. Well written and no typos if I recall. But for a drug-free soul-addict, dance-freak, vinyl-fiend like myself, just too much on pill-popping.
  11. What book was that Phil? Last couple I got were two of the best although Tim Brown's had a few spelling mistakes. Why can't Northern Soul book publishers edit out these annoying errors?
  12. Demo on eBay at present. Good luck.
  13. Thanks for the heads up - ordered it straight away. Remember him well from Wigan. Third in the First Anniversary Dance Competition. In Wigan's Chosen Few on Top of The Pops. All-round cool guy, slick-dresser, brilliant dancer... Really looking forward to reading the book.

  16. Right On Tricky. It's unprincipled to end an auction before time. Probably unprincipled to ask the auctioneer to end the auction early. Would be better for all to have a highest 'Buy It Now' price to avoid sharp practice but then we would never have any bargains.
  17. Hi Martyn. Each to his own. Great tune whether on the dancefloor or in the living room. Not all soul records are equally great so there's a time and place for listening to whatever suits. When I was at Tufnell Park over a year back at the Keb Darge charity do, it got me onto the floor pretty quickly. After that it went onto the wants list. I bid very high on the copy in Japan but was narrowly beaten: the auction winner failed to pay and was sent notification that the record was up for sale again. By now though, I'd blown the dosh on a People's Choice on Palmer plus a few other items... still feel pretty sick about this...
  18. Another copy on eBay at present in lesser condition but surely won't fetch half the price. Must dig mine out sometime to see if it is an issue or a demo.
  19. Hey, Special Limited Edition bootlegs now that's classy. Just like Dinky toys, artists' prints, Princess Diana plates etc they are trophies for poor, simple fools chuffed to bits they had a bargain. Tell buyers they are in very limited supply and they will pay double. Better to go without.
  20. Completely blown away. Not seen one for sale for ages and has been noted on several wants lists in recent times. Great record and one that has become very hard to obtain. Prices for classic oldies at present are going through the roof despite the poor exchange rate.
  21. No, sensible spending on a really good, very scarce record. As an early unknown sound a decade ago, £250 was a real bargain. Today, with demand greatly exceeding supply, whatever it takes to secure a copy is a wise outlay.
  22. £500 if you are lucky enough to find one. A recent one auctioned for $850 plus, went unclaimed, then sold again for a bit less.
  23. Nice tune. Nice price. Issues are pretty common but the DJ copy is seldom seen and evidently in very safe pairs of hands.
  24. Went past it today on the train. Looks like it's being demolished and converted to flats. My brother worked there in the 1980's and got me the Motown Hits albums 1-10, several of which were on coloured vinyl.

Not seen this variation before. Got the red issue, a DJ copy and one, possibly two, white demos but not the one shown. Great track but never heard it played out as it's a very tricky tempo to dance to.
