6 Records That Make You Want To Cut Your Ears Off
Sorry Pete, am actually on self enforced vinyl stavation regime at the mo' what with a US trip comin' up, thats why I've not been scouring record lists lately. My previous post was then somewhat flippant. BTW 'ow much was it? And er 'ave you still got it? Cheers Paul

- What's Your Favourite Album?
Beverly Glen was owned by Otis Smith (no, not that one!) Anita Baker famously credited one of her songs on the ''Rapture" LP to her memories of him, it was called "Watch Your Step" Cheers Paul- What's Your Favourite Album?
Nice call Petebanger!!! I always thought Beverly Glen LPs were the buisness!!! Remember talking to Terry Jones once, in the Spread Eagle Shoredich circa Christmas 87, and saying "Don't forget Terry Beverly Glenn comes but once a year"! Cheers Paco- Bert Decoteaux
Thanks Ken- "judy Street"
Believe theres a US porn star called Jerry Butler too, so watch out!!! Chers Paco- Bert Decoteaux
- Soul Train:-the 70's
Nice one Tabs some classic soul tunes/artists on there! I've always wondered why nobodys released the "SoulTrain" series on DVD before? Maybe something to do with royalties or summat? I hope its not a case of Parkway records all over again (where the owner just didn't want to re-release anything) Anyway thanks very much for the CDR Tabs, the "Soul Philanthropist" Cheers Paul 'n' Mandy- "judy Street"
Think thats quite an old photo tho' Sean, she may have changed a bit since , I know I have! Cheers Paul Woosnam- How Did You Get To 70's Venues
Only too well mate, a Saterday nighter after a Friday oldies. Back from Wigan 11ish straight to the pub 'till closing at 3, back home for a wash 'n' brush up then back in the pub for opening time. No room in Pips car at closing time so of course its off to the A49 with our thumbs out. We were definately still "in the mood" Cheers Paco- D.i.s.c.o ?
Thats OK we'll blame Simon then!- How Did You Get To 70's Venues
By hook or by crook!!! We traveled from Shrewsbury, by any means we could, sometimes in luxury of a rover car ,sometimes on an organised coach, sometimes on the train and run the gauntlet when you arrived in Wigan. The train was always a pain 'cos in those days coming back on Sunday you'd have to wait 2 hours in Crewe or Wolverhampton for your connection. Travelled to Yate once with 23 of us in a 14 seater mini bus, needless to say the thing broke down halfway home the next day. Looking forward to the 4 hour train journey to the next Frankfurt tho' Cheers Paul- Bert Decoteaux
Never realised that was Bert, thanks pomonkey 'Tho have to confess I prefer Nina Simones version Cheers Paul- What A Wonderful Site
Theres only one Soul Source!!!- D.i.s.c.o ?
Exactly! Couldn't 'ave put it better myself Sid Nice one Cheers Paco- Bert Decoteaux
Seems to be three silhouette faces on there too,Stuart? Bert goes surreal? We should be told Cheers Paul- Bert Decoteaux
Well thats as clear as mud then! Wanna sell it Stuart? Cheers Paul- Simon Dunmore Blues & Soul 1990
Also remember a Frank Elson column in the mid 80's (sorry don't know exact date) where Frank claims not to be able to list a years top 20 because there was no soul recorded that year. Of course this prompted a deluge of letters/tapes to him pointing out his mistake. To his great credit Frank spent the next few columns giving up valuble space reviewing a comp' tape sent to him (from Jan Barker I believe) of indie soul from that year, Jessie James Willie Clayton, Mary "Love'' Comer etc etc. Bit off thread I know, but it reminded me when I read your post. By the way I think Franks claim of there being no soul that year was tongue in cheek, and maybe just a ruse to get some nice tapes! Is he still around? He'd be great on 'ere. Cheers Paul Woosnam- Bert Decoteaux
Bon soir Derek, Well I've never heard/seen that, but I'll certainly be keeping an eye out. Just goes to show how ahead of his time Bert was what with all the Stevie comps over the last few years, think the last I heard about was DJ Spinna! Who knows maybe in a few years time we'll have "various artists tribute to Bert" compilations! Still hoping Millbrand and Simon T will get back to us on this. Cheers Paul- D.i.s.c.o ?
Not completely sure why you've quoted me there Baz, I'm NOT trying to say I have more soul, for liking 70's as well as 60's than a 60's only fan. It just gets my goat when 60's only fans label everything recorded after 31 Dec' '69 as disco! That is obviously wrong, yet we hear it time and again. I'm not too sure on the word "soulier" either! Cheers Paul Woosnam- Fluffs Forgotten Oldie Of The Day
Nah, not really Chris, seem to remember Kieth Minshull playing it every week at Wigan '79/'80 ish didn't get it then, still don't. Seem to remember him playing the Tams "Hey Girl....." 'bout the same time and not getting that one either. Before anyone starts I'm sure they're great records just don't float my boat thats all Cheers Paco- Site Probs -back Up -down -up
Hi Mike Not sure if I should be replying here, but got onto Soul Source this evening ('bout 18:00 UK time) found I'd been logged out, didn't do this myself. Tried to log in, top half of screen said ''Welcome back...." bottom half of screen said there was an error try again. Tried again ditto, several times during the evening. Seems to be ok now.(21:45 UK time) Cheers Paul Woosnam- Words To Ban
