Hiya you mean Graham Fairhurst He is always at The Twisted Wheel I will alert him of your interest If you pm me your No I will msg it to him as he is a FB friend of mine Fred
  3. Most of the older Wiganers new it as The Emp up to it being demolished There was also The Empress Cafe adjoining the Casino
  4. I don't think so because their is work being done on an application to have one for The Twisted Wheel on the hotel that is being built on The Whitworth St site
  5. Wigan has a new history museum and whilst there is a small area dedicated to the Casino nighters, there is no substance to it apart from a looped video and some of Dave Baron's fantastic paintings The museum missed out and should of put more resources into it
  6. A few pictures of a swarm of Honey Bees I collected from the initiall swarm to the bees having produced their brood on the frames
  7. It's crazy the number of events that clash and the biggest loser is the punter Last Bank holiday we went to a Alldayer in Sheffield and there where another 2 Alldayers on in Sheffield that day It's time some promoters forgot about their egos and started speaking to each other in consideration of the paying customers
  8. Wigan Young Souls have confirmed they have been approached about using their Highfield venue
  9. I thought the cut off date for supplying material for the book had expired
  10. Jordan Wilson who is one of the founding members of Wigan Young Souls (WYS) has the largest collection of photographs taken at Wigan Casino Allnighter, and other soul venues. Jordan is not a member of Soul Source but they can be viewed on his facebook page

Most of the drinkers on dance floor are non soulies and I blame the promoters and security for allowing it and failing to stamp down on it I could go on but it would require another thread

Some soulies appear to be making a statement these days by flooding the floor with talc having a quick shuffle and then leave never to return On several recent outings I have seen good dance floors ruined by too much talc
  13. Did you make contact with the WYS I know Jordan one of the original members is aware of your post but is not a member of Soul Source
  14. I used to work on Silcocks travelling fair on the waltzer and speedway, long before CDs and we used to have the decks suspended by bungee type rubber slings. Despite the bouncing and shaking of the rides we had no prolems with the records jumping or skipping
  15. Whilst the events column might be busy on Soul Source I think it is used to check whats on and most folk appear to use FB to give feedback and post pictures Like others have said IMHO the events section was more user friendly prior to being updated
  16. I'm not sure but I wish Clubs would stop punters drinking on dance floors
  17. Very good topic. I love to dance and a night out without dancing would be an incomplete night for me I understand that not everyone wants to dance and I have no problem with that, however I do have a problem when soulies who never dance crtiicise the style of soulies who dance I agree with some of the previous comments about how the manners on the dance floor have deteriorated, there was a time when people would walk around a dance floor instead of taking a short cut across the floor and why do some people think it is acceptable to chat and spill their drinks all over the floor One last moan! Talcum powder, why do some people have to make a statement by drenching the floor with the stuff having one dance before leaving never to return to the floor having ruined what was a very good dance floor Regarding anyone who says they are too shy or embarresed to dance, get up you'll love it and may possibly enjoy the night even more
  18. A few of us where reading a old Northern Soul fanzine yesterday and where commenting on Richard Searlings top 40 northern tunes of the time, the Snake was near the top. It's down to elitism and people being concerned about how other folks view them

A lot of the young souls who feature in the film where at a fashion shoot in London yesterday and they where in London for a magazine shoot, not sure if that was linked directly to the film,
  20. Yes they play OVO. IMHO they are great clubs. Black Bee is more gritty whilst terrace NQ is more cafe culture. Like you say they are very passionate and you hear different sounds. well worth trying you may enjoy them
  21. Have you tried Black Bee Soul Club or Terrace NQ both in the Northern Quarter of Manchester
  22. As a 57 year old I have visited both Wigan Young Souls and Blackbee and anyone with any doubt of younger soulies attending events would have the squashed if they attend either of these events. Its so uplifting to see how the young souls and older souls interact. We attend nighters and events all over the country and quite often some of the younger soulies accompany us, they are a great bunch of guys n gals so friendly to get on with and so passionate about the're music
  23. Loved the Carlton
  24. There is a happy medium, most events I have been to with a very low attendance have had no atmosphere. However anyone who has been to the recent Twisted Wheel Sunday sessions have to admit they have not been very good. This is down to huge crowds including a lot of pissheads spilling beer allover the floor who want to add the Wheel to their CV
  25. Most of the established events Ive been to with quiet dance floors have been down to crap music policies (IMHO)
