  8. it's a really interesting debate, so I'll give my tuppens worth - it really is a personal choice, no right or wrong, as we all go through different stages in our lives whether that be through work, family etc I dropped away from collecting many years ago, and I was getting married, starting a family & building a house, so a very different period from the previous 20 years of craziness - lol my collection consisted of all genres of soul, and at that time was gathering dust in a cupboard, so I sold it in stages - real cheapies first, then the mid priced stuff, then the rarer stuff - it funded 75% of my house build and put me in a very good position. do I miss my records, tbh I actually don't !! I'm more into the music now than I have ever been, and I listen to it every day, either through CD or streaming - I do miss the odd album like The Dramatics, Bettye Swan, Candi Staton on Fame etc. but through technology I can listen to them any time. I still have a few records, and still buy stuff to sell if I get the chance, but my time these days tends to be more research based, finding the stories behind the records and tbh that is giving as much of a buzz as owning any record ever has so as I say, no right or wrong, keep em, or sell them to fund a project or to travel the world - your choice and nobody should judge you whatever you do

  10. For Motown enthusiasts – a future collector’s item Hitsville in Detroit have recently pressed their very first 45 of their Legacy Vinyl Project, My Girl by The Temptations. This single is to celebrate the creation of the iconic Temptations song, written by Ronnie White and William “Smokey” Robinson of the Miracles, in celebration of the 60th anniversary of its release. There will be further releases to follow so will be great for Motown collectors With interviews recorded in Motown’s legendary Studio A at Hitsville U.S.A., tracks remixed and remastered at Motown Museum, and records pressed at Third Man Pressing, the Legacy Vinyl Project is the first 45rpm single with new content captured in Studio A to be recorded, pressed and released from Detroit in more than 50 years. Side A (The “My Girl” Interviews) tells the story of the song’s origin through the voices of Smokey Robinson (Co-Writer), Otis Williams (Temptations), and Paul Riser (Arranger) with interviews conducted in Studio A in Detroit where “My Girl” was recorded 60 years ago. Side B (My Girl Remastered) was created using the original multi-track master tapes which were shipped from California to Detroit to be remastered for the very first time since it was recorded in 1965 at Histville. A limited run of 1,500 in blue vinyl have been pressed at Third Man Records in Detroit The packaging includes an essay by journalist and author Adam White, and a historical retrospective by photographer Don Paulsen who recounts being in the dressing room when Smokey Robinson taught “My Girl” to the Temptations between shows at the Apollo Theatre in 1964. These are only available from The Motown Museum in Detroit and are limited to 10 per person I will have 10 copies of this when I return from Detroit on 22nd July, so if anyone would like to reserve a copy at £40 including shipping, please message me
