  1. Different day different gravy, heard Memphis Soul Stew on a tv ad this morning and thought I'll play that this afternoon. 2. Contemporary releases make up about 20% of what I buy Mike and in the past I've bought several posted on this thread. I subscribe to several on line retailers and regularly trawl Bandcamp for new releases. I've found the last few months a bit of a wasteland for my own particular tastes with a lot of releases sounding very much the same. There have been a lot which I've found ok and would have no problem listening to in a bar etc but few i would want to purchase. Personally I wouldn't post a tune up if I wasn't buying it myself. Maybe I should rethink that stance . I could well be wrong, I often am but I do think that people who don't dip their toes into new contemporary tunes would be surprised at the volume of releases out there.
  3. Hotel piped music in Corfu. SherriTaylor He's The one That Rings my Bell, along with Aretha, James Hunter .

Seems reasonable to me Mike, I think the majorcontributors to both threads are more or less the same people.
  5. Off topic but this amused me and is about AI. We were just discussing the film Dr Zhivago trying to remember who played the Balalika in the film. Lou thought it was the character played by Rita Tushingham. I asked the question did Rita Tushungham play the Balilka in Dr Zhivago. AI to its credit quickly cleared it up by saying "no Rita Tishingham di not play the Balilki in the film, the Balilika is a musical instrument" go8ng on to say the character Rita actually played. Sorry off topic, on all inclusive holiday in Corfu 🍻🍷🥂

As did I Kathryn, you obviously found a better site with more info. When I looked it didn't give a name and just said Pyre was loosely based on a real life detective. Cheers for that, interesting site " the cinemaholic", thanks for that too.

Binge watched The last Anniversary , really good, a lot going on what with flashbacks etc, very clever at the end how they tie up all the loose ends so you're not left with any questions about what happened to who, who did what etc. highly recommended.

I was slightly disappointed Kathryn to find that Jeb Pyre was a fictional character as was the other detective, can't remember his name. Still a gripping tale though.
  9. This happened to me a few years ago, I wanted a record from a Uk seller but it also had "not available in the Uk" which I thought rather odd. I contacted the seller to ask why he wasn't selling to the uk when he was based here. I got a reply pretty quick ,he wasn't aware that his listings had the "not available" line attached , he didn't know how it had got there and quickly sorted it. Always worth asking the seller , my experience could well be a one off but you never know.

Great series Kathryn,we enjoyed it, when you have finished the series have a look on the net about the series, I'll say no more.

Currently watching Memento Mori a Spanish Walter presents, serial killer on the loose, lead actor has me convinced, I tense up every time he's on the screen. Think there's going to be an interesting twist somewhere along the line or maybe one line of dialogue was a red herring?
  13. Missed that but no saw it many moons ago but thanks for pointing out my error, happy to be on the receiving end of one of your pithy comments that always make me smile 👍
  14. I'm no audiophile and have a cheap set up so I'm sure someone will put me right on this, I read somewhere might even have been on here that the easiest way to set up anti skate is to use a single sided record on the reverse with no groove, and adjust until the arm stays in one place. Not promoting this as a method just interested to know if in any way it is correct .

Very much enjoyed Kathryn but you could have said it was a film not a series, we assumed it was going to continue, hooked and ready for episode 2 ,credits rolled then nothing 🤣🤣, as you say well worth a watch.

Just finished The .Art of Joy on Sky Atlantic, Italian series about a girl who will do anything to get what she wants. Set around the time of the first world war. We enjoyed it.
  19. Such sad news, RIP, condolences to family and friends.
  20. Not acetates or Emidiscs but interesting as to who is buying and why. There's a seller on ebay currently has a carver which he is upfront about of Because of My heart Frankie Beverly ,starting price £59.99. In a repro sleeve. he has even put pictures of auction results so potential buyers can compare the carver to the original. If you wanted a copy just to play at home why pay that price when there are two easily available versions for under £14. Same seller a month ago had a very poorly done Motown Demo of Barbara Mcnair You're gonna love My Baby, in his description seller said he was unsure as it appeared to have hand typed cut out copied labels applied. A one eyed man in a sandstorm couldn't have been fooled by it so to say he was unsure was disingenuous .A check of the Tmg number alone would have told him it was for Jr Walker Come see About Me. Still someone paid £44 for it, why again when you can have the Outta sight issue for less then £15 if you just want to play at home.
  21. Out walking this morning, I'm always looking for the oddity, my eye was caught by this Labrador
  22. Bert Smart from Rayleigh Essex ,presented to him by Stevie Wonder, I just put a search in Tamla Motown Mini competition, more info plus photo of him receiving the car from Stevie.
  23. I bought lots of chart soul in the 70s that probably got bypassed by some wrapped up solely in the Northern scene. Nothing wrong with that you like what you like. I had a discussion with a mate a couple of months ago about such records and would certain records have been played if the the artist wasn't at that time known for a 100% pop record. The Tymes had Miss Grace which maybe resulted in their later releases being overlooked. I won't post a link but I've always had a great affection for God's Gonna Punish You by the Tymes, won't be to everyone's taste but I think it's a great vocal and a lovely tune.
  24. Welcome Neil, from your intro sounds like you might have some interesting stories to tell, look forward to future posts
  25. Good advice but as I was told after my blood tests the PSA test can give in certain circumstances a false negative or positive so it is best to have an internal examination as well for greater clarity. I only say this because I'm sure many are put off by the thought of the internal exam. Don't be, I had my PSA level checked last month which was fine but I was recommended to have the internal exam, it is not as bad as you would imagine , I didn't find it painful at all . Put aside any feelings of embarrassment you may have, the test is quick and over before you know it. I second Jaco's sentiment above, you really do owe it yourselves. To you Jaco I'm sure your positive attitude has helped you through some tough times and kudos to you for getting on with your life . Hopefully your post will encourage more people to get checked out.
