When is a sale not a sale?
Yet another sale, this time up to 50%, watch now £113 on both Amazon and the Lilienthal site and this is within days of the previous price drop. Just looked at when first sold on Amazon May 23 so maybe it's a case of trying to get the best price for old stock.

When is a sale not a sale?
Some months ago I saw an ad ,might even have been on the side bar on here for Lilienthal watches, on a whim as I'd been thinking about a new watch I had a look, saw two I quite liked and hummed and harred for a few days, nothing too expensive ,one was £189 the other £280. Whilst pondering should I shan't I the site had a sale, the one I fancied reduced to £139, three days to grab a bargain. Said sale duly ended to be replaced the day after by a flash sale, watch reduced to £132, again ticking clock counting down. by this time I had decided I didn't want the watch but continued to follow the supposed sale, I guess these things work on some kind of algorithm that knows you keep returning. I then looked where else the watch was available and it was on amazon for £132, not on sale, buy it now, who was the seller, none other than Lilienhall themselves, this had me thinking how much the watch was actually worth in the first place. Since that initial view it's gone up and down in price, sale, flash sale, extra £5, £10 off with coupon, 33% off,50% off , looking today cheapest it's been £126 from manufacturer, just checked Amazon price now with 4% off the same £126. Anyone had a similar experience when deciding whether to buy something.I intend for my own amusement to keep looking and see if it gets any cheaper, if the watch was only ever worth around the £130 odd mark why not sell it for that in the first place.

Just where is NS heading in the future?
I don't disagree with anything you say, yes it is personal to us all, on that note for me it has always been about the music. Life took a different path for me hence I was never part of the scene as such, collecting started at school and didn't stop until children came along. Come the mid 80's I was in my own quiet way on the scene with a mate and his wife discovering all that I had missed in the days of Wigan and the Mecca, much the same as the young guns of today. After starting to buy again during Covid the magic had definitely not died for me, the thrill of that square of cardboard dropping through the door holding my latest buy, nothing expensive mind, later finding records I'd always loved were not as expensive as I thought. The magic of that little 7" piece of vinyl will never die for me. It puts me in the strange position of not so much regretting I wasn't on the scene in its heyday, sure I'd like to have been but reading posts like yours with a heartfelt loss of a special time in your life as with many others on here in some ways I'm glad I don't feel that something's missing. The magic in my life always has and always will be in the music. Where it goes in the future is up to those falling in love with it anew. Whether they are falling in love with the music or the general atmosphere of the events I think will determine the longevity of any scene moving forward. If it's for the music then the future looks a little brighter, if it's going out meeting people, having a drink and a good time well there's plenty of ways to do that and the novelty of the soul scene will wear off when the next media led fad comes along. Looking back more than 50 yrs if a certain knock on the door had come 15 mins earlier I could well be in the same position as you, a phone call 15 mins before that knock took my life on a different path, otherwise I would have been on my way to Wigan with a mate who I'm glad to say is still a mate today, he has his memories, I have a nice selection of his records .

WHAT ARE THE BIGGEST 'MODERN' NIGHTER SOUNDS?
I've recently been playing cds that I haven't listened to for years, steadily working my way through 300 or so, got to the modern /crossover/Luther Vandross etc and this thread came to mind when I was listening to this cd. Not sure when it came out but in the blurb Kev Roberts ends with the line"welcome to the new Northern Soul". Hope it's of relevant for the original poster.

Media Talk - Movies and Tv
Original Belgian series The Twelve series 2 finished the other week, brilliant, I would assume ITV will do a remake after doing the first series, i can't imagine it will match the Belgian original though . Not a spoiler but if you get it on catch up don't switch off as the credits roll on the last episode as all the loose ends are tied up. Highly recommend.

Gladys Knight At Royal Albert Hall
When i first got into the music Gladys was my favourite female artist, saw her at the Odeon cinema Manchester around 1971, wouldn't like to see her now and spoil that memory. Saw her a few years later during her Buddah period, that one doesn't live in the memory quite the same brilliant as she and the Pips were.

Glad to have been of help, I didn't know the track ,I enjoy a search as it throws up tunes you've never heard and probably would never come across normal circumstances .- BBC Radio show on NS from 2005 - reavailable to hear
Just listened ,one quote from Stuart Cosgrove resonated as not having changed "the media served to confine the scene rather than actually define the scene in any positive way". I think it gave a more balanced view more so than recent articles, I think it was Stuart Cosgrove again who said something along the lines of people writing articles with little or no real knowledge of the scene.- Vondors rich girl
Don't think this is it but it meets the criteria, The Van Dykes, b side to Miracle after Miracle, think this is possibly to poppy, it's on you tube.- New Northern Soul release?
Posted at same time as you ,my thoughts exactly,- New Northern Soul release?
It would prick my ears up if i heard it on the radio , northern feel cloned with brit pop, I expected there to be a more soulful vocal but found non at all. Just another pop record ,no objection to him trying to make a Northern record plenty of others have tried, for me failed on all fronts, vocal, lyric and cliched guitar solo where it should have had a sax break if he really wanted to try making a northern style record, not that that would have changed my opinion. Will probably get played on Craig Charles show as a perfect slab of home grown Northern Soul 🤣- Just where is NS heading in the future?
Interesting thread, I holidayed halfway between Marmaris and Iclemere about seven years ago, didn't go into Iclemere at night but during the day at that time there was just the one bar we saw advertising a N/S night, there could well have been others but if not maybe he did well bringing in the English and over time others have followed suit. I guess from little acorns that some locals might take a liking and a local scene could follow, more likely in Marmaris one would think. Would that scene translate into record buying and collecting is another thing altogether. I think on one hand the scene will as we see happening now become more of a social thing, afternoon sessions seem to be sprouting up here there and everywhere and from what i hear are well attended. I'll hold my hand up we don't go out and haven't done since covid bar a few odd nights, when we did go out I really didn't see a night where there were loads of so called handbagger's which was the fear every time N/S was featured in the media be it the film One Show whatever. Of course there was always some but never the flood many predicted. Whether that has changed and there are more now I'd be interested to hear from regular punters. Going forward I think there will always be a hard core looking for a night that shies away from the top 500 and maybe as some of the newbies get tired of the more popular nights they may well move into the rare and underplayed venues. I'm of an age where I doubt I'll see much change as to what the scene is now. Quite often on here I've seen the phrase in one way or another "the scene dying with us", who exactly are "us". I know the majority on the scene are the wrong end of 60,I know very few people on here personally so ages other than hints in posts are a mystery, I am aware that there are several under 60 so "the scene dying with us" could be a long way off. Long term we could see a healthier yet smaller scene, less venues but well attended with maybe, just maybe a reversal of the current oldies dominated scene to one with a more varied playlist. Do I really care, yes, but for now I'll keep digging out tunes I like for less than twenty quid, buying the odd long time want when the price is right and enjoy the excitement of that little brown packet hitting the door matt. The Asunta Case on Netflix, Spanish drama based on a true story of a young girls murder. Brilliantly crafted, we've got one episode to go and still unsure of the final outcome. One where you want to read the actual story behind the series.- Show Us Your Great Photos 2024/5

Usual top class service, rapid delivery, excellent communication from Mike when I had a query regarding my order, Cheers- Opinions on newcomers
It's always worked for me, plough your own furrow and your style will develop over time, I can assure you there will be more than a few sat down watching you wishing they had the energy no matter how you dance- C & W meets Northern Soul!
I have very much mixed feelings on this kind of thing, I haven't seen the footage you mention but it's been happening for some time and as I see it can only get worse. I'm very much a live and let live kinda bloke on many things in society in general , plenty of things get my goat that I think why would you want to do that. Back to the point in question, I don't get out much anymore, pre covid I watched a mate and his group of friends dancing in a circle, arms waving in the air ,I hesitate to call it dancing to Petula Clark so a double whammy there, I just thought what is it coming to, no!! no!! no!!. Bear in mind this was a group of people with history on the scene not johhny come lately's .When i questioned him he said as you have said above "it was just a bit of fun". I've read many threads on here regarding lets say the dumbing down of the scene, be it Tv exposure, the proms, baggy trousers etc and there seems to be a split between a hardcore group of people who up vote anything defending the scene as was and rarely see any other point of view, nothing wrong in that , I admire their undoubted devotion to scene they've lived their life on, on the other hand you have the more relaxed attitude where people don't get too hot under the collar about it, both sides I feel have the right to express their view. What I do find annoying is what I sometimes see as those defending the scene of old belittling those with a different view when those people it seems to me have just as much love and knowledge for and of the scene through time spent. I guess it's something that is not going to go away, something we are going to have to live with. I don't like it, personally don't think it has a place , it would appear more people as they get older and can't dance as once they did are maybe looking for alternative ways to enjoy the night, taking the scene less seriously. Unfortunately the wider public's view of Northern Soul tends to be one taken from the media which always focus on the same aspects, vests, baggy trousers ,circle skirts and four or five tunes, I have got to the stage when someone asks me what music I enjoy I never say Northern Soul, I'll say 60's soul, rare soul, if they then mention NS I'll say yes and try to explain away the media view. Just to be clear, I don't like it, don't think it has a place, I just shake my head and let them get on with it, I won't be losing any sleep over it, should I choose to venture out again given the choice I'd be at Ashton Ukranian Club as I used to do pre covid where the true scene I believe is still alive and thriving.- Mr Soul - Buffalo Springfield
