  1. Chaka Khan has a net worth of $30 million. Patti Austin has a net worth of $12 million. Plenty to roll about in.
  2. I actually heard Patti Austin's latest on Solar this afternoon, something from a film soundtrack. Instantly forgettable, certainly didn't make me prick up my ears and pay attention.
  3. Sorry, but the OP asked the question and I suspect he appreciates honest answers. If I could no longer do the day job I wouldn't "keep on keeping on". Why should it be any different for the musical profession?
  4. There's a lot of artists trying to hold on to past glory. With some, the motivation isn't paying the bills, so possibly it's the thrill of performing, or the adulation of the fans, or just the love of making music. If it's the only career you've ever known, then it's hard to give it up. As mentioned earlier, there are a lot of artists who should have hung up the microphone years ago. In the Northern Soul world, some promoters insist on tracking down artists and persuading them to cross the pond to perform in front of the faithful, with sometimes disastrous results. Again, several examples above. It's so sad to witness some of these once great singers struggling through a three song set, when the only person truly benefitting is the one selling the tickets.
  5. Travelin' To California - Albert King.....
  6. Unfortunately he just came over as a narcissistic knob head.
  7. Can't remember the venue, but I thought I was in Jessops. Some guy had set up his equipment all around the dance floor. Remote flashguns going off left, right and Chelsea. It was like the blitz. Not exactly what I'd describe as discrete and non-intrusive. I'm assuming these people get permission from the event organiser and / or venue management, but is everybody giving their tacit consent to be photographed and then posted all over social media by the fact they've paid their entry fee?
  8. Went to a soul night recently and some strange individual set his camera up on a table to film himself dancing. The worst part about it, he couldn't dance to save himself.
  9. Anti-lock Braking System, which is handy if you don't notice the stop sign early enough.
  10. I love the smell of linseed oil in the morning.
  11. OK, let's all agree that Tribute or whatever it's called is the biggest pile of horseshit to be ever played on the Northern Soul scene, close the thread, and then we can all have the half term off.
  12. That's something you don't see or hear everyday. Is it any good on the garden?
  13. Nine events In an area ten miles wide ‘Cause I know That I have you by my side

  18. I remember my early days on the force, and having to sort out a group of youths who were dicking around on the dance floor. One young lad seemed embarrassed by the antics of his mates, so I had a quiet word in his ear and put him at his ease. I often wonder what happened to that youngster. I guess I'll never know.
  19. Soul Police Community Support Officers.
  20. They also need to realise their drinks won't get nicked if they leave them on the table.
  21. Removing dymo tapes? I can never get them to stick.
  22. Great Curtis track from the Short Eyes soundtrack, "Need Someone To Love"....... PS Maybe we should have a thread about soul artists on Santa's naughty list.
  23. "Messin' With My Mind" has a similar effect on me. I absolutely hate that song.
