  1. Looking forward to another good night at The Harold - & yes we will have the air con switched on!πŸͺ
  2. Thanks for the interesting read - some really nice & interesting artwork there!πŸ‘
  3. Can't wait to hear what surprises Mick, Dean & Steve have in store for us - looking forward to another storming night at The Harold! πŸŽΆπŸŽ΅πŸ’ƒπŸ•ΊπŸ’ƒπŸ•ΊπŸ’ƒπŸŽ΅πŸŽΆ
  4. I watched Children of Men last night - it's worth a look if you haven't already seen it - with Clive Owen taking the lead role it had to be worth watching - never seen him in a bad film yet! It's available on BBCiplayer.
  5. I watched Unforgivable last night - written by Jimmy McGovern, it's a very well-acted drama with an excellent cast. Dealing sensitively & empathetically with ongoing problems caused by sexual abuse within the family, it makes for a disturbing but compelling watch. Hats off & well done to both Jimmy McGovern & The Beeb for handling such a difficult subject so well. Available on BBCIplayer, it's hard to watch but definitely recommended.πŸ‘
  6. I binged watched it too - such a brutal story.. I remember someone from when I was a child in the 1950s - he'd been a Japanese PoW. I don't think he ever spoke about it all, but he never looked well - always seemed very sad, pitifully thin & permanently jaundiced. I was too young to have been told much about it - only that "he'd been a PoW & had a terrible time during the war...." I've seen other dramas & documentaries about the Burma railway - a brutal story but one that needs to be told.
  7. Is anyone else watching The Narrow Road to The Deep North? It's really well-acted - harrowing but compulsive viewing & at times very difficult to watch. Based on real-life events for POWs of the Japanese during WW2, it's well worth watching & available on BBCIplayer. I'm up to episode 2 so far & gripped by it - another πŸ‘for the Beeb from me.
  8. You were right Two Shoes - Mix Tape is good!πŸ‘

Hi all - Kath here with a bit of feedback on last night's Harold☺️ By the time the doors officially opened at 8pm we already had 30+ people in & the footfall just kept on coming, so the atmosphere was buzzing from the get-go! Guest DJs Shaun Callon & Mopsey - plus Soul Brew's Steve & Marc - played a broad selection of 1960s Soul, R&B, Ska, Reggae & Mod tunes - something to please everyone. Well done guys - you nailed it!πŸ‘ (Shaun stepped in to help us out last night as Marc was due to have an operation a couple of days ago. We expected him to be out of action for a while, but his op was postponed until a later date so he was able to join us after all).πŸ™‚ Thanks to all who came to support us last night - as always you are very much appreciated!πŸ‘Everyone seemed to have a good night & we had plenty of good feedback from around the room - it's always good to hear we got it right! Now we're looking forward to the next Harold soul night on Friday 15th August, when Mick Glover (Junction 36 & now East Dene Soul Club) will be joining us to spin the vinyl on the Soul Brew Decks.πŸ™‚
  9. Well folks - tonight's the night & it's all sounding like we're in for another busy one - can't wait to see what Mopsey & Shaun have in store for us! Bring it on guys! πŸ’ƒπŸ•ΊπŸ’ƒπŸ•ΊπŸ’ƒπŸ•Ί

  11. Thanks - I'll have a look for that one!πŸ‘
  12. Massive thanks to Blackburn Oldies DJ Shaun Callon for stepping in to spin some tunes for us at The Harold while our DJ Marc is out of action!
