  1. Went to see the film Showcase Leeds and thoroughly enjoyed it. As 'yoof' of the 60/70's can relate to some of the scenarios in the film. Parents despairing of you ever making something of your life, school problems, having a shitty, boring, mundane apprenticeship, queuing at the bus stop, in a boiler suit and donkey jacket getting soaking wet just longing for the weekend and music, dancing and other things . The locations shot well represented the mundane industrial north of the era, thought the drug part was a little to long, but during this time at most events you knew who and where to obtain some 'gear', and I had a quite chuckle to myself when the lads in the film identified an undercover DS cop trying to look 'cool', trying 'suss' out who was 'dealing'. This was a refection of what happened in the pub we used to attend before an event, an undercover DS guy, looking 'trendy' and dressing 'cool' ( or so he thought) would wonder around the place but EVERYONE would know who he was. The main lead characters were well portrayed and well acted and Elaine deserves plaudits for sticking to her guns and insisting on using unknown actors, as it was suggested that Daniel Radcliffe be used as the main lead part of John All in all the film set to achieve what it was meant to viz. to tell the STORY of two lads in a mundane industrial town in 70's who little hope of achieving anything in life, who find an escape in Northern Soul music but still cling on to a goal (unachievable?)
  2. Can vouch for everthing that Alan has said, is polite in asking for permission to photo and will present the recipient with a glossy professional image of the event, plus a first rate gentleman and Cas Tiger fan to boot
  3. Must give a big rap to Richard and Julie Cryer who run the Eggborough sessions ...........£2.00 entry......... and for a very comfortable venue with Air Conditioning ( are you reading this Mr. Butlins) and as a thank to the people who have supported this event throughout the year, the New Years eve bash is ................................................................ wait for it .............................a Tykes most treasured entry fee..............................................................................NOWT Take a bow Richard and Julie
  4. This is utter garbage ...................................they were on for the last night as we made a conspicuous effort to sit under one of the ceiling fans to get some circulated air. I understand where your concern lies regarding the performers re. Tommy Hunt .................he is such a frail person, hence the reason he has to have a chair when performing on stage I've met Tommy in the past and I have the utmost regard for dedication to his profession and not wanting to let his public down. I attend Eggborough SC and can't tell you how comfortable it is to be there when it's a hot evening and the AC is on ..............Bliss
  5. Fully endorse this remark ....................for an organisation like Butlins not to invest in Air Conditioning is a criminal sin. The result is that someone is going to have a major health problem due to the heat generated by lights, audience etc......so keen to say that the event had attracted a world record attendance for soul event of 8,000 its hoped that some of the 'profits' generated can used to install suitable air conditioning.. ................have said this in the (usual) questionnaire sent by Butlins. EVERY ACT complained about the heat generated, even the lead singer in the Flirtation said she was from Alabama "where its hot at times but man it's hot on stage" ...................best wishes Tommy, a true professional who made the utmost effort to not let his fans down at the finale a true LEGEND
  6. Got include Contours this or her who shall be obeyed will ............................................................. me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVrunJ4ygJw

  10. Some good tracks here ....................remember goin' down Porobello Rd in the sixties and picked up " James Bond " and "Phoenix City" by Roland Alphonso singles for a snip, where they are now
  11. Mine was the Tinned Chicken club in Castleford part of the (then) new Crystal Bowl complex, at the start of the year a schedule of the TOP soul acts would be published (see photo) and it was with great expectations we'd trot down to the club expecting to see The Drifters, Impressions, Fantastics or whoever but they never turned up, conned again, by a local impressario called Ken Dougherty, but we did get Jimmy James and the Vagabonds, Wynder K Frogg and a never never to be forgotten night when Junior Walker and the all stars ACTUALLY turned up with Pete Stringfellow djing The town centre was rammed with soulies, the night will live on in my memeory for ever. The photo is of a poster taken at the Soul Lodge in Tenerife. that lists the act the SHOULD appear but never did
  12. Went to SITS (Soul In The Sun ) Tenerife in March can say it was a fabulous soul holiday, Vivos night club is used for the week run by Eddy Edmondson, but an equally good venue is the Soul Lodge located in the San Eugenia district of Tenerife ,link: https://www.northernsoultenerife.com/ Run by a great guy, Stefan Dee, the trip to the Rancho for a soul extravaganza is one not to be missed see my photo album for snaps of the scene ......................def. booking again for next year
  13. Could some of you guy's in the know please settle a 'friendly' discussion (?????) . Was Billy Davis' Stanky (Get Funky) ever played at the Twisted Wheel. Thanks
  14. Hi Guys, Just surfin' the soul scene when I came up this. I'm a old (very) Crystal Bowl attendee you may remember me as JAMMIE, I used to go to the Bowl with Roy Hicks and his sister Margaret, its great to read some of the comments on here about he 'Bowl. I keep telling her indoors (on the pic) how great it was. Fantastic times had, especially when Junior Walker and the All Stars actually did a gig at the Bowl, the Carlton Street and Albion Street were rammed. My personal 'high' was when Wynder K Frogg made an ACTUAL appearance ( see below) Great, great times and disappointments, especially when the acts booked by Ken Dougherty never turned up and we were left with the stand-ins, the Screen. Its good to see the photo of Howard Taylor who DJ'd at the Bowl. I've just rekindled my love for soul in the last fe years, attending Drax, Eggborough and the Crescent club in York, so much so that we've booked a weeks holiday at Soul In the Sun in Tenerife, where I've got 3 DJ spots With regard to the lady who is looking for her father, I knew a Dave Owens who was big pal of Terry Egan, he was a very, very smart turned out guy, who if my memory is correct was also something of a good amateur boxer Will be at Drax tomorrow, you not miss me crap dancer with white hair dave
