Female Record Collector's ... How Many Are There Really
Got to give a mention to Janice Price & our very own Julia Nicol from Modernism. Both doing a spot in the modern room at The Earl in Doncaster tomorrow night so it should be a good'un. Must also give a shout to Soul Underground's Lin Taylor & future Modernism guest Jane Carter. Probably gonna get shot down in flames for this (what's new!) but i think you lasses put more thought into the music than most of the blokes who dj. You girls will play a tune because it's good but most of the blokes will have to play a tune because it's rare or it's a demo or because Manships got it in't auction or i'm on before him so he can't play it etc etc. Fire away...

Zz & Co
Just curious but if he has would it be so wrong seeing as he ain't received any cash for it getting used on the so called "legal" compilation cd's? Only one i can think of at the moment is the Soul Supply "Essential Modern Soul Story" Great record anyway. Remember Searling playing it covered up as Oscar Perry & yes it did jump near the end.

Aw Rachel, Just read this & was about to get my new shiny moderators stick out & rap some knuckles but you beat me to it. Never mind, i'm sure i won't have too long to wait Probably showing my ignorance here but i don't know this. Love Oscar's late 70s stuff like Wind Me Up, Let Me Do It etc. When was it made? Soundclip anybody? Mart...

Soul Nights - Dwindling Attendances?
Out every weekend normally Kenny (money & lift permitting) Like i said it was a good night Ken. Goodnight Ken

Soul Nights - Dwindling Attendances?
On the night i attended it was 2/3 70s crossover & 1/3 more up to date modern sounds. If you're into that sort of stuff it's your kind of venue. Sort of place where the music comes 1st but having said that it's a nice room with a good sized floor for the size of the room & cozy surroundings. If you want the usual anthems & glitzy fliers etc it's not that sort of night. Last Friday was my 1st visit but i'll definately be going again. Can see it becoming one of my regular haunts. Mart...

Modern Soul Monster Not On Vinyl Or Cd :(
Agreed on the Funky Company Roger. As for Vincent Montana, the man's got an uncanny knack of making old tracks sound new & new tracks sound old in a dancefloor friendly kind of way. Great stuff Getting back to the original topic. The Legend track was played twice on Saturday at Modernism. The single was played by Kev Briscoe & like i said earlier it was the biggest tune of the night, the Freddie Estefez remix was played by me & went down like a lead balloon (shows what i know as i prefer this version). The main reason for my original post was to hopefully introduce some new music to a crowd who predominatly prefer older music in the hope it might just give a bit of interest into newer tracks & hopefully open the doors to a few more punters. Not easy i know but giant Oak trees etc. Funny thing is i'm not a fan of John Legend but i just feel this track has got a certain something that might appeal to a broader crowd. Just out of curiousity Roger, what did you think of John Legends collaboration with Ray Charles from a few months ago? Mart...

Modern Soul Monster Not On Vinyl Or Cd :(
Totally agree with you 100% Roger. Put up the original post as a general outlook of the year so far from a man in the street point of view. Sure you can see that from the Angie Stone reference. Willing to have a little wager with you though, bet at the end of the year when all the silly posts go up it's right up there with Luther & Alexander O'Niell & it's gonna be the biggest seller by far. The stakes for the bet? How about a king size Mars bar. Was certainly the biggest tune from a dancefloor point of view tonight at Modernism & i bet it was at SU as well if it was played. Not only that, it must have something going for it if Tony Rounce hates it with a vengance Hope this post makes a bit of sense, just that i've had a few bottles of Bud so it'll probably get edited in't morning after the asprins have kicked in

Soul Nights - Dwindling Attendances?
Great venue. Great system. Totally great music. Great company but same result Sean Really pisses me off when folks can't be bothered to get off there arses & support quality nights like this. Know there's a lot on at the moment but surely this venue deserves more support than it got last night. Thing is it will be the folks who could'nt be arsed to attend venues like this who will be the 1st to moan when there's nowhere to go as nights like this have to shut due to lack of punters through the doors. Makes my fcuking blood boil at times......

Modern Soul Monster Not On Vinyl Or Cd :(
Guess that was the kind of answer i expected from a Paul Anka fan Might be wrong here hence the question mark but i can see this crossing over into northern rooms in a similar fashion to stuff like Angie Stone etc. Be interesting to see if someone like Sam picks up on it in the coming months. As for comparing JL to Marvin Gaye fair comment but how many artists stand up to MG regardless of era? My tune of the year? Ask me at the end of December but the frontrunner so far has to be Unified Tribe's album (i think!)
