  1. I have 2 copies of the Tams "What kind of fool do you think I am", on UK Probe. Both have identical labels, but they're totally different recordings. One is the original 60s version (same as the HMV release), the other sounds like a 70s remake or remix. The run-out groove numbers are different. The same differences apply to the B side too. Anyone any idea how or why these 2 versions were put out?
  2. The Tyrone Davis track is the original, pre-Dakar version of "Can I change my mind" - probably the only way it got a UK release
  3. ZZ Hill on "Make me yours" - All of my friends say "ZZ - Don't!"
  4. I'd had one in my sales box for a decade or more, sold it last year for a fiver. There's a great version by Steam, on the flip of "Na-na-hey-hey", was a big spin in my youth club days Cheers Nick
  5. Paul Pelletier's Stateside book says that Jimmy Radcliffe's "My ship is coming in" was scheduled as SS 475, the number eventually given to Betty Harris - "What a sad feeling/I'm evil tonight". Does anyone know what titles were planned for the 2 missing black Chess numbers? Cheers Nick
  6. Cheers Crumb, didn't know that. Just checked the R&B Indies book, seems M. in the Street was from Cincinatti. Still don't know which release was first - I guess you'd assume Jewel came later
  7. I have Albert Washington's "Loosen these pains and let me go/Go on and help yourself" on two labels - Jewel 822 and M.In the Street M.I.T.S. 1. Does anyone know which of these came first, or anything about the M. In the Street label? Cheers Nick
  8. Thanks Gary - I s'pose I should have recognised that really, shouldn't I. Nick
  9. Which version do you prefer ?JR Bailey or Donny Hathaway The Tom Jones version isn't too bad
  10. Can anyone help identify a track on this CD which isn't included in the track listing? It comes between track 13 (Delighters - "Music Revolution") and the track listed as 14 (but really 15!) - Hearts of Stone - "Yesterday's love is over" It's a nice track, I feel I should know it, and it's driving me mad. Cheers Nick
  11. I've just listened to the CD "Lost Soul Oldies vol 10", and find that there's a track not included in the track listing in the packaging. It comes at track 14, between Delighters - "Music revolution", and Hearts of Stone - "Yesterday's love is over" (which is listed as track 14, but is actually 15). Does anyone know what this track is - it's great, I feel I should know it, it's driving me mad! Nick
  12. Thanks for that, I'll have a listen, but I suspect it's really someone got their Isley and Temps mixed up. Cheers Nick
  13. What a great site, I didn't know about it, thanks for that. I'm also fairly sure it's a mistake, but I wondered if there's an an unreleased Temptations version knocking about, which might not show up on DFTMC. Anyone know?
  14. I've had a request to play "I guess I'll always love you" by the Temptations - is there a version by them I've overlooked (and if so, what album/CD?), or is it a mistake?
  15. There's a cool sax-led instrumental version on the flip of the Contempo reissue of Bob & Earl
  16. And a third version, by June Conquest & Donny Hathaway, on Curtom/UK Buddah
  17. Looking through my Pic & Bill tunes (well, I was having a day off work) I noticed that "This is it", on UK Page One, says "Rhythm & Blues Series" on the label. Does anyone know if there are any other records in this series, or was it one of those ideas that was never followed up? Cheers Nick
  18. I heard that too! I'm doing it tonight, but Mary will be back next Friday. Cheers Nick
  19. It says 1969 on the record label. Nick
  20. Thanks Sean, I thought you'd know! Nick
  21. Just played Kim Weston's "Gonna be alright" and noticed that although the label design is a typical Volt label, the record number (MIA 1502) is that given in the Mikim discography. Anyone know anything about this? Cheers Nick
  22. PM me Nick
  23. They sound very similar, but not the same. According to the Vocal Groups book, the Enchated Five dates from 1970, and the Topics 1972. One of the co-writers, Bruce Clark, is given as a member of the Enchanted Five - he also produced the Topics' version. The Enchanted Five version shows S Horton as producer, and gives him a co-writer credit which the Topics doesn't. Somehow, I don't think that makes things any clearer! Nick
  24. Several people have asked about a memorial night for Chris. There will be a night in Chris's memory at the George Hotel, Swan Square, Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, ST6 2AE, on Friday November 6th (8.00-1.00). DJs will be Dave Bell and myself (the other 2/3 of the team from the Bear, Newcastle, way back when), Keith Minshull and local guests. £5 on the door, all proceeds to Douglas Macmillan Hospice. It would be great to see as many of his old mates as we can pack in to the place. Nick
  25. Thanks to everyone for your tributes to Chris, I'll let his family know. If anyone would like to attend the funeral, it will be on Monday September 14th, at 1.00pm, at St Giles Church, Newcastle-under-Lyme. Nick
