  1. The Vocal Groups book gives release dates of September '67 for the Implements, and April '68 for the O'Jays, suggesting the Implements is the original. Nick
  2. 1st issue came out in December 1973, the last I have is August 1980, by which time it was called "Black Music and Jazz Review". It aimed to cover the whole spectrum of black music at the time, so included reggae, jazz, blues and African music. Dave Godin was a contributor in the earlier issues, and Ian Levine also did a column. It did a number of articles about the Northern scene which caused a fair bit of controversy at the time, seen as outsiders slagging a scene they didn't understand, but they still make interesting reading and provide a great snapshot of the times. It's on Modern, flip of "Baby take me back", a Stafford sound. I recently paid £50 for a demo, seemed about the right price. It's also on a Kent CD, "Serious shades of soul". As a novice at putting soundfiles on the Forum, I could do with knowing the rules and etiquettes, and about Refosoul - can you advise? Cheers Nick PS I'm away all week so no rush!

Johnny Gilliam's version of YMMFLS (on the flip of "Baby take me back") is stunning
  8. My orange card is from 1980/81, I guess the white would be a year or two earlier. Notice they both have the same number
  9. He did a tour with the Drifters in 1973, I saw them at Wolverhampton Gaumont. Nick
  10. Many thanks John, you're a star. Cheers Nick
  11. I went to the Sunday afternoon sessions, around 1968/69. I think it ran from 4 till 7.They used to play ska as well as soul, and a bit of "latin soul", like Ray Barretto and Mongo Santamaria. I remember being in awe of the girls from Worcester - as a 16 year old they were the coolest chicks I'd ever seen! And no, it wasn't a bit rough.
  12. Thanks John, that would be great.
  13. Can anyone help with composer and publisher credits for Lonnie Hill's "Cold winter in the ghetto"? Thanks in anticipation Nick
  14. I've just treated myself to a Kenny Carlton "Lost and found" for Christmas, and was wondering if anyone knows anything about him? Like, who was he, is he a pseudonym for someone else, and has he done anyhting else?
  15. Thanks for the help guys. I want to play it on the radio and only have a CD that gives minimal details. The Beeb policy is that composer and publisher details must be logged, so I still need that info. Cheers Nick
  16. Can anyone help with composer and publisher credits for this please? Cheers Nick
  17. They've both got excellent B-sides too
  18. The version on the Kent CD "Let's crossover again" is different from the LP version. The CD booklet confirms it was earlier done by Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra and others

  22. My wife invariably catches me at it if I have a crafty spin of "Condition red" - you should see the look on her face
  23. The Soul Vocal Groups book reckons it's Harry Starr
