I don't know of any general funds but there was one set up for Sugarpie DeSanto a while ago, after her house burnt down and a paypal account was recently opened for Lattimore Brown after he lost everythin in the hurricane.

Agree with you up to a point but one thing about these type of do's is they attract old mates out of the woodwork who haven't been a proper nighter/soul night for years. OK once a year but I wouldn't want to go every week.
  3. Derc Hotzog Not heard it but if the names anything to go by don't want to - Dicky Doo & the Dont's
  4. Ha ha, seen his other items? seems to sell mostly vintage porn

Yeah, I should think you know him. Don't wanna humiliate him in public so I wont name him but his ex was with me at the last Kings Hall. Wouldn't let her anywhere near my records though
  6. Got So Says My Heart on SS7 on ebay last night for $4. Great record, cant believe no one else bid on it.

Buggered off with another girl. Probably all modern crap though so not as bad as it sounds.

A friend of mine gave her husbands records a coat of varnish when they split up, didn't play very well but they had a lovely gloss to them.

Popcorn told Steve Whittle that after 50 years in the US you had to pay a fee to renew the copyright which is OK if the record was a hit & earns a lot in royalties but the non hits though they earn a lot in total would be uneconomical to renew.

Loretta Williams definitely going on the CD. Just going to dig out Jay Wiggins & James Carr off Soul-Slider's first CD. Thanks Crumb

I've been meaning to compile myself a deep soul CD from my northern b sides but I never seem to have time to play them. The longer I leave it the bigger the job becomes, so can anyone reccomend any. Cheers Crumb
  12. Delcos - Arabia - Ebony & Showcase Earl Gains - You Belong To Me HBR album version's great but the DeLuxe 45's crap.
  13. There's A Ghost In My House by The Fall, not one of their best but I'd still rather have it than R Dean Taylor
  14. I'm pretty sure The Pretenders were Don Julian's Larks under another name. Great record though.
  15. Didn't Shane Meadows's film "Once Upon A Time In The Midlands" feature some northern tracks, I seem to remember hearing Bar-B-Que in it, or am I thinking of something else. Agree that if we are going to have a northern film then Shane Meadows is the best person to do it.
  16. As far as I know these people have never had any involvment in the northern scene & IMO their only aim is to make money, nowt wrong with that, unless they make us a laughing stock with the general public, which I fear they will. As I've said before, the original records are more likely to bring new blood onto the scene than using crap covers.
  17. I'd watch it, but only on a bootleg dvd cuz I don't want to put any money in their pockets. If it ever gets made I hope it's a financial disaster
  18. I realise they need to appeal to a wider audiance than just us lot but Shane Meadows managed to make a pretty authentic film about the 80's skinhead scene that didn't just rely on a skinhead audiance so if he can do it so could these lot. If they did it right it would bring in more new blood than this pile of shite will.
  19. Didn't see the original play, wish I had though, but the new musical version is just an abomination & I fear this film is going to be just as bad.
  20. I hope you're right but I heard this mentioned on the radio as well and it said they hoped to get these artists (and others who I can't remember but I think Duffy was one) involved in the film so I assume that means just cover versions, not the original records.
  21. I actually like these three, especially Weller, but doing Northern covers? No, I'll give that a miss. Besides, I don't think any of these are confirmed yet & with a bit of luck they won't touch this tacky little film with a barge pole.
  22. Mark Ronson, Paul Weller, Amy Winehouse, oh dear
  23. We were due to go and see the original play a few years ago but one of us was ill so we deceided to put it off till we could all go. Unfortunatly that opportunity never arose & I really regret missing it. Would I go and see this instead? Never in a million years
  24. Johnnie Mae Matthews: R&B - Headshrinker Northern - Lonely You'll Be Modern - Don't go in the modern room but I'm shure she must have done something suitable
  25. Proper one.
