  1. I think this was dierected at Golden 101................different Kev
  2. You could be right. Potentially, could there be a law suit pending if they ever admitted publicly to being Edith Wayne. Good point Kev
  3. I still go back to my question to him. Why would he lie. He said she was the cleaner in their building. Why put one ficticious name on the credits and one genuine name. Clearly they couldn't use their own names. Doesn't make sense.
  4. No mention of Edith Wayne in your interviews. Who was she in your opinion. Why would they have one credible contributer and not another! Kev
  5. I don't doubt what you say Kev. I asked him about Dunbar and Wayne and that's what he said. I asked him a load of stuff like was he related to Gene Dozier? Kev
  6. Also at the "meet the producers" in Liverpool, Lamont stated that Freda Payne was more of a jazz singer before Band of Gold and Lamont knew her as they were at school together. Kev
  7. When I had dinner with Lamont Dozier he told me that Edith Wayne was the cleaner in their building and Ronald Dunbar was the Janitor, but in reality HDH wrote anything that was credited to them. Also told me that The Originals asked for Lamont Dozieer to work with them on their California Sunset album which Berry Gordy reluctantly agreed to, he just didn't put any backing behind it so it never got the exposure it should have done. Kev
  8. I would say that the 70's was possibly one of the best eras for albums, where artists were given licence to experiment rather than just a collection of singles. Love some of the choices above especially Anthony White, Lamont Dozier, Marvin Gaye. Here are some of my faves Originals - California Sunset Charles Drain - Dependable Ramsey Lewis - Tequilla Mockingbird EWF - That's the way of the world Emotions - Flowers Rufus - Rufusized Bobby Womack - Safety Zone Joe Simon - Drowning in a sea of love Holland Dozier - Love & Beauty Eloise Laws - Ain't it good Danny Woods - Aries Teddy Pendergrass - Same Thelma Houston - Same Thelma Jones - Same Revelation - Same Dionne Warwick - Just being myself Voices of East Harlem - Same Gloria Barnes - Uptown Reflections - Love on delivery Ohio Players - Honey DeeDee Sharp - Happy bout the whole thing Enough already Kev
  9. Played his Inhert the wind album non stop back in 1979 and his version of Donny Hathaway's "Someday we'll all be free" featuring Bobby Womack is a good close second to the original. R.I.P. Kev
  10. Kev Roberts played it at Wigan prior to 1977, to my recollection, because, by that time I had stopped going. Kev
  11. This was in the independent https://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/aretha-franklin-queen-of-soul-wins-right-to-not-have-1972-film-amazing-grace-shown-10489022.html?origin=internalSearch Kev
  12. How about this? ZZ Hill - Thatt ain't the way you make love - Sounds like Johnnie Taylor Kev
  13. Greg Perry? Doesn't sound like Johnnie Taylor though. But the backing singers might be right
  14. I bought mine after hearing it on a soul kitchen cd. Was surprised to find that she was black as I think it has a white 60's feel to it. Kev
  15. The Encyclopedia of R&B and Soul by Colin Larkin is a great reference book listing groups and their personnel, albums, etc etc. Kev
  16. What a fantastic achievement. I bet there have been many times when you've wondered, why do I bother, but I think I can speak for everyone, when I say "I'm glad you did". My anniversary too this month, 10yrs as a member on 15th Sept. Thanks to the whole team for all your efforts. Kev
  17. Don't know how many from this site went last night, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Especially the breaking down of the various elements within the songs, isolating the bass, the drums, the backing vocals, the strings etc. Interesting that the Andantes were used on a Marvelettes record instead of them, as they weren't up to it vocally and they never knew. Before you ask, he didn't say which song. Also the use of various instruments such as the Sitar and the Wurlitzer! Would have liked a bit more focus on his own solo career, especially the ABC years. Kev
  18. I know what you mean, but I very rarely listen to one artist for more than a couple of tracks. Couldn't listen to a whole album of Linda, much as I like her. i think there is a tendancy for some artists to over sing it. Jennifer Holliday And I'm telling you is a prime example peace Kev
  19. With the frequency that our beloved artists are disappearing, this a great chance to see and even speak to, one of the greatest singer songwriters of our time. Kev https://www.epsteinliverpool.co.uk/whats-on/the-record-producers.aspx
  20. Let's not forget Hi_Lites - That's Love A real belter Kev
  21. Didn't know Joe, but like many, looked forward to his posting of the JM auction results. RIP Kev
