  1. Exactly, if you are going to use a zero then you would usually start with it not a five. I just wondered if there had been some others prior to these 7 Kev
  2. Just been looking at my motown 7's box set and noticed that they run in order of sorts but it jumps 534 543-0 534 543-1 534 543-2 then it leaps to 534 542-6 534 542-7 534 542-8 534 542-9 Are there some others with these prefix numbers
  3. This is my favourite Mamie Galore track on Imperial 06 Track 6 Mamie Galore - This time tomorrow.mp3 Kev

  6. Was going to mention this but found your comments. Fantastic album track. I have a signed copy Kev
  7. This doesn't seem as if it was written as a stand alone instrumental but more like a backing track. Anyone know if there is a vocal version. Kev
  8. I have a copy of Sweet Darlin by Jimmy Soul Clark on a WD, which I got in a soul pack, back in the 70's The deadwax has SH-001 ABW.. No matrix stamps or any other writing Not sure if this was ever booted as a white demo, I know it was as a red copy. Anyone able to throw some light on it please Kev
  9. The backing has hints of "Nowhere to Run" backing track Good job it wasn't a hit!
  10. Or it could be Gus Collins or Jeff Floyd or even The Total Package Band!
  11. His versions of "It's a crying shame" and "I'll always need you" are excellent. To be honest, when I first heard Dean Courtney at Wigan in 73', I thought he was blued eyed soul and even Jimmy Radcliffe. Danny Wagner another great singer. As Pete says, a great production team behind him.
  12. I was listening on a transistor radio in the UK. I seem to remember it was around midnight. He was playing all the stuff that was in the american soul charts, plus new releases. In those days all you had to go on was the description on the mail out list from Record Corner in Balham, so Milt Kemp's show was the chance to hear them. I know I wasn't the only one in the UK who listened to his show. There must be others on SS who listened to him.
  13. Thanks Dunc, I have 185,186,188,192.195,197,198,199,200,202,205,206,208,209,212,214,218,219,220,221 & 222 I will scan them over the next week and email you if you pm your email address to me. Similar taste in music myself. thanks Kev
  14. In the early 70's I used to listen to Sgt Milt Kemp playing the latest releases on his late night show broadcast on MW from Germany. The signal was weak but I remember first hearing Jerry Butler & Brenda Lee Eager - Ain't Understanding Mellow, & The Dramatics - In the Rain. Just on the off chance that the world is a much smaller place now, does anyone out there know if there are any recordings of his shows. Maybe some GI's based in Germany recorded them or even knows Sgt, Milt Kemp himself.
  15. Hi Dunc, I have a load of Blues & Soul from 1972 -1977 Some years I have almost a complete set and others have less. I did get it on subscription so I don't know why there are some missing. Anyway, I can scan them at work on Monday if you want. Do you want every single issue I have or a monthly sample. I think they were fortnightly. In 1976 they used to feature disco charts with the likes of Ian Levine, Richard Searling etc and even my good self. I just used to send in the top 10 records being played at that time. Although I was a regular at the Casino and my first love is Northern, I was playing funk music.
  16. I have a copy of Gloria Barnes (Tiwanda Barnes) album "Uptown" on Maple which I have owned for 40 years and wondered if anyone had any idea of its value. The record is mint but the sleeve has some very slight scuffs. It came out on cd a few years back, so don't know if that has devalued it. Has the different version of "You don't mean it" and "I gotta get away" which was put on the b side of "Love slipped through my fingers"
  17. Thanks Sean, That's what happens when you don't log on for 12 months Kev
  18. Heard this this morning and haven't come across this guy before. great voice and very retro https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghzzDBXgV7A Anyone know anything about him Kev
  19. Anyone give me some details on their track "The very next time" I have it on a cd but would like to track it down on vinyl. How much does it go for? Cheers Kev
  20. Had a right nightmare in the 70's when I lent a load of motown records to a mate who had underfloor heating that used to get really hot, he left them lying around I and ended up with a load of warped records back. Annoying thing was they were all some of my best I tried ironing them but just ended up with elliptical records that played through without jumping but were way out of tune. Still think about them every time I iron the kids Hama beads.

Howard Mallet, I have a white label promo of Leroy Hutson's album with "compliments of Ian Mallett" written on the cover. I think he was a record rep in the mid 70's is it the same guy? would that be the same

I remember dancing in platform soles and when they wore through the heel used to fill up with stone chippings on the way home and would rattle around and irritate the hell out of me - I wish that expanding foam that builders use had been invented then.
  24. That's me on the balcony at Wigan
